I love that accent what is that Maine?
Tennessee
Didn’t hear much difference honestly.
I've had my Dx1 for 11 years now, and I've played on a few D28's and there's not much difference
Epi sounds better
I have a 400. What strings do you use?
I just bought a Martin jr d-10 and find it plays nice for my smaller fingers, but it looks too small! Seeing if i can return it and am really considering this DX2E instead. Isn't the fretboard about the same?
Thanks☺. Can you please tell how long the phosphore bronze strings will last?
I hope you got to 100 subs!!!!
Cool, funny how people of such different backgrounds in life can converge on a musical topic
Playing this acoustically is tough very impressed
I mean, there is obviously a huge difference here, but at five times the cost of course the Gibson is going to sound better. This is like comparing apples to oranges. There's a reason these two guitars have different price points. The Martin sounds good for what it is, but it doesn't even compare to the J45. A more fair Gibson/Martin comparison would be to use a more comparable guitar like the D18.
are you crazy. The gibson sounded chintzy compared to the Martin lmao... sounded hollow, lacking bass. I guess its personal preference but come on...
@@cooloutac I'm a Martin guy all the way. I own two of them, and zero Gibsons (although I do have a Gib mandolin) But for this comparison in the video I just felt the J45 had a stronger tone. It's so hard to tell in these videos though. I bet if you were in the room, or the one actually playing the guitar, you could hear the difference, and feel it in your belly
@@andrewjohnson1573 I dunno man when I bought my Dx1 i've had for 20 years I planned on spending thousands literally . Ended up spending $500 instead cause it blew away everything in the store. at the time i was going to as many guitar shops as I could all over NYC. I guess its personal preference but to me that taylor sounded very compressed, hollow and narrow. no bass and no dynamic range. But i guess it does have more note separation on the top end but not my style. I like to finger pick and don't amp up. and I want a thumping bass and something with alot of presence. I want something that sounds powerful.
@@andrewjohnson1573 bro I just listened to it again, and not only that. listen to how off the intonation is on that Gibson especially when you hitting that first low bass note. and listen to how nice and in tune those bass note you hitting on that martin sound. come on dude...
I prefer the j45 but they're both great sounding machines!
I have the Eppi like yours love it,,So Number 2. Is. The DR 400.
Number 1 sounded just a bit better than number 2 to my ear. But, number 2 was no slouch either. I own a DR-400 and think it is a superb guitar and outstanding value. We are talking about a D28 that costs about 8x more than a DR400.
I have been in the market for a new acoustic for a while now looking to spend really tops out at about around $1200 or so. Nothing to fancy, just a good player and sound. I was reading and listening to reviews on some of the new Gibson Generation series being at the top of my budget, and Epiphone Materbilt Excellente, Frontier and the inspired by Gibson Epiphone Hummingbird. None of the guitars that I wanted to try were in stock lol. At the store, I went into a different mindset to just try out a few budget Taylors, Epiphones, and a Gibson Generation Songwriter slightly out of my budget. After playing some, I preferred the Gibson the most. I didn't know about the Martin X series at all and noticed a Martin DCX2E on the wall at $699?? a Martin?? I thought immediately that this will sound like a piece of cheese if you will. Wrong it sounded better than everything I have tried except for the Gibson one. The very first G chord rang and had great sustain. I was really in shock, so much that I couldn't even justify paying more than twice the price for the Gibson. The Martin sounded much better to me than the budget Taylors. I took the Martin home with me. It just goes to show you can't just go by reviews alone and what you read, you have to play it then decide.
I hear ply-wood sound with the Martin. Solid wood is king with age.
I like both.
They both sound the same to me
It’s not even close the j45 destroys the Martin
how. it sounded tinny and hollow compared to the martin. If you didn't know it was the J45 would feel the same way? you all about the highs and no low end I guess? I guess its personal preference and application. But if buying an acoustic guitar to play acoustically then I'd go with the Martin for the better presence and dynamic range. IF you want to plug in electrically then I guess the more clarity on the highs of the Gibson and probably easier playability? would be the choice. lmao...
Nice video and very informative. 👌 Nice playing as well ! What is that first tune you played???
I have had mine for 2 years..I didn't like it at first but with a little age,it came to life!! Good info for people looking 👌
Thanks
I just bought this one in the mahogany finish yesterday. I knew about Martin but didn’t know anything about this model. I just picked it up at the shop, played it for an hour and didn’t want to leave without it. I’d be surprised if there’s a better guitar out there for $599.
Nice
They are great
Thanks Son sure proud of you
Thanks love you
I really liked that. Guitar sounded great and good vocals
Thanks so much friend
it has better sound than epiphone j200?
I think so. I've played both
Which j200? The all solid epi or lam?
The DX1 is a little fuller sounding with a little more bottom end/bass presence to my ears maybe slightly more resonant
Exactly that's why I think they are hard to beat. I love the tone of them
Epiphone sounds brighter. I have never been that impressed with the D-28 that much for the price they are now charging. I got an Epi Dove pro and it sounds great for under $400. My dream guitar is a D-45 and D-41.
Nice.
Epi sounds better, give it 20 years and the Martin will sound better.... that’s if we’re allowed guitars then under the new world order.
Who knows? Nwo may not allow guitars and I bet they wont allow guns but I'll both
I would say that they will both sound better with time as they are all solid wood built. I have the Epi and it can easily compete with the Martin, but seven times cheaper
Is the back and sides solid wood
No laminate
@@chrisdcates thanks for the reply, do you think it’s worth spending £500 on a second hand one ?
@@bennevis6843 no problem. Not sure about euros? I'm in usa. How usd is that? Me personally. They fo new here in the usa for around 600 dollars new and used they go more like 400 to 500 dollars
@@chrisdcates The pound is 1.38 dollars. So looks like I’m being ripped off.. think I’ll hang on and just save up for one of the road series or something. I don’t want to spend a lot of money on something that is cheaply made
@@bennevis6843 nice
This or the d10?
D10 is nice.
The 1st one
Thanks
Nice review man I appreciate it! How has it held up so far? I’ve been reading reviews saying that the HPL comes loose at the binding especially if tapped or dropped is that the case with yours? And I know dropping your guitar isn’t good but shit happens at gigs
Nope the case in background if that's what your referring to is a Gibson j45 case. But the new DX2E comes with a nice thick gig bag. They are delicate. I've never had a problem with one but I've never dropped one. I'd you drop one I bet it will bust. I've seen many busted x series. If you want a bit more rugged Martin they make a road series but a bit more. They are around 800 ish. But all solid wood and wont bust if dropped. Glad you enjoyed review. I think if your careful they will last along time. But a little bump wont hurt. The big falls or drops can be detrimental. Thanks hope this helps
There is an amazing price difference between them. A fried has a more expensive Martin Cherry Dread which is amazing but he bought a used X series Dread that is even more amazing and constantly plays it now !!
Yes I like both
They are amazing instruments. My first Martin was a DXK2 ! I have an old 00-18G,and OM 21,a little Martin made for the Owners meeting in 2012, and a Road Series 000 Koa. I would love to have a D 41 or 42 but a bad fall 6 years ago left me hurting very bad trying to reach around the big body ! If they ever let us go back to semi normal a trip to Martin Guitar is well worth the trip. The Museum, the Picking Parlor and all are amazing ! I played an $8000 solid Koa 12 fret one time !! Had I had the money at the time I would have had one. What a beauty !!! Thank you for the video.
Thanks glad you enjoyed
They both sound great but I am an Epiphone man.
Thanks
Nice work
Thanks
Gibson my friend.
I'm waiting on my DR400 to be delivered and I have a Martin D16 that I play everyday. I'm happy to see this.
Nice congratulations man
Thank you for posting this. I just ordered a DR400MCE; it sounds fantastic and will replace my old Yamaha.
They are really great
#1 is more articulate and therefore has to be the Martin. No mistaking the sound. That leaves #2 as the Epiphone.
Yes correct
You don' t need to expend 2000 dollars for Elite guitars because in studio this sound it is cuted at 60 per cent of his signal, and the Lady who wants your record she don't understand about guitars, only if you play well and if your music is good, brands doesn't gives you talent but the talent givew you good sound in any guitar. Those dx2are best guitars than people knows,it has the best solid scalloped top of the planet ,and this guitar year by year wins more tone.
the epiphone sounds just as good as the martin
Thanks I'm glad someone else can hear it. I think they sound great
Great demo man. I’m getting the burst version soon.
Congratulations these are very good instruments for the price point. Really enjoy mine.
Thanks
I discovered your channel for your DX2E review. (I just ordered one) I love this song. Nice job.
Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed. I love this song too. The martin dx2e is a great choice. And I own much more expensive guitars. But it does what I need it to. I like it for taking out. It's a great gigging guitar.
Hi chris, any problems with the martin ? crashes by humidity? and this gibson any trouble with humidity? good stuff!
I don't seem to have trouble with humidity. I use sound hole humidifiers in winter times. During other seasons the humidity will rise slightly higher than I'd like but never enough to cause any issues.
I have a DR400, also. I love it! I've never been a fan of Martin's and I definitely think the Epiphone sounds better in your video. Thanks!
Thanks man
It sounds amazing!
Thank you
Even thought I dislike this song you done a good job!
Thanks man.
