I was diagnosed with AML in September 2015, at the age of 55. I went through the first lot of chemo in hospital and the following 2 lots as an outpatient. And got admitted back into hospital both times. I've been in remission now for 9 years and am now 65. I kept working, and have just retired on my 65th birthday. I thank and am appreciative of all the doctors, nurses and the rest of the hospital staff, who cared for me, at the RAH. For those fighting AML at the moment, stay strong, stay positive and fight........ Herb

Can eating vitamins like B, C, D and iron help to get better or stay stronger? Is it allowed during the sytostat period? I have now three treatments which started today in Finland KYKS hospital with lilac "poison" and some blood later. Also I have 2-type fairly new diabetes and because of cortison my numbers jump in 20-25 for blood suger, even though I'm eating healthily. I do miss my daily vitamins but nope, they said. I'd like to know the REASON, please!

I was diagnosed with ALM (UK - 1971) as a child at a time when it was regarded as universally fatal. It was very advanced by the time it was detected and understandably a tragic blow to my parents - my Dad having just lost his job and placed our house up for sale, now had to consider losing one of his children; even more poignant given he had previously worked in a fund raising capacity for cancer research and so was well versed with the devastating ramifications of the disease. I was instantly hospitalised in what was then Pendlebury hospital in Manchester and placed on chemo. The fact at such a late stage I obtained a remission at all was exceptional enough to be noted for discussion by the Hematology Society in the UK. Unfortunately I then relapsed after nine months by which point my parents decided to discontinue the treatment altogether as the prognosis was pretty grim. Quite miraculously I then recovered, receiving no further treatment and limited care from there on. There will always be 'exceptional' cases which leave doctors scratching their heads and to my mind these deserve further investigation. I have always wondered why I wasn't subjected to further testing to see what brought about what in medical parlance would be regarded as a 'spontaneous remission'. I'm sure had my treatment been in the US this might have happened. Regardless, I am thankful for every day I've had on this earth ever since. It is a terrible disease and the memories of it and how it impacted my family are still to this day clearly etched in my mind.

03.04.2024 my sister was pregnant and was diagnosed with AML M4-m5. They removed the baby and she received chemotherapy. They applied 7+3 chemotherapy. daunorubicin, mitoxantrone, idorobicin. After a 2-month break, he received chemotherapy again, three days of cytarabine. took it three times, two weeks apart. 7 months have passed. Transplantation will not be performed. doctors say he is fine. I'm very curious what will happen.

She was a young 77 year old female she had an elective knee surgery then after two months of saying she's not feeling well and the knee surgery we thought was the problem we took her in for stomach pain (which might have been from the opioids she took in rehab post op) causing diverticulitis then she had nose bleed the hospital did too many things to her and she died within a week. Hi there, Although an abnormal WBC count is often the first thing detected by your doctor, an AML diagnosis is made with further workup. Criteria is a blast cell count of 20% or more, or sometimes if specific genetic mutations are found to be present in your cells.
