Welcome to my world of art history, where you'll uncover the untold stories of groundbreaking women artists. I'm Lauren Jimerson, PhD, an art historian, author, and licensed guide based in Paris, and my mission is to research and advocate for women artists. Since a Fulbright fellowship brought me to Paris in 2015, I've curated women-focused museum tours, including at the Louvre and Orsay. I also design intimate journeys to artistic capitals in Europe and online experiences for my art history community, "Art with Friends." My book, "Painting Her Pleasure," explores modern women artists and their depictions of the nude. I've also contributed to exhibitions at museums internationally, including the Barnes and Centre Pompidou Metz, and I’ve appeared on NBC's The Today Show and France 24. This TH-cam channel is an extension of my commitment to spotlighting women artists along with my global art adventures. Join me for an immersive journey into the contributions of women artists!
Emilie Charmy: Modern Woman Artist | France 24 Interview with Genie Godula & Dr. Lauren Jimerson
Join us for an insightful interview on France 24 featuring Dr. Lauren Jimerson and host Genie Godula, as they explore the groundbreaking work of Emilie Charmy, a pioneering modern woman artist.
In this engaging conversation, Dr. Jimerson, art historian and author of "Painting Her Pleasure: Three Women Artists and the Nude in Avant-Garde Paris," discusses Charmy's revolutionary approach to art, her defiance of traditional norms, and her vivid portrayals of female pleasure and autonomy. By examining her work, we dismantle the myth that the Fauve movement was solely dominated by male artists like Matisse and Derain. Charmy boldly tackled the female nude, challenging male artistic standards to express female agency, autonomy, and desire.
Key Highlights:
- Emilie Charmy's significant role in the early 20th-century Parisian art scene.
- Analysis of Charmy's works, including her bold Fauve landscapes and intimate nude self-portraits.
- The impact of Charmy's art in challenging cultural perceptions of gender and femininity.
- How Charmy redefined modernism and the nude with her exploration of female pleasure and sexuality.
