When Crowds Ruin a Landscape Photography Trip
I went to Park City, Utah recently to continue developing my landscape photography skills. I assumed summer would be a good time to go to such a popular ski destination and get out into nature without too many crowds. I was so wrong.

Saddleback Thin Front Pocket Backpack Unboxing
มุมมอง 5K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Unboxing my new Saddleback Leather Thin Front Pocket Backpack. I've had my eye on this thing for a long time and finally decided to pick it up for my trip to Park City next weekend. This is just a quick (or not so quick) unboxing a little description of some of the design elements. I also took advantage of their July 4th promotion and got a free leather US Seal and a copy of the US Constitution...
First Outing as a Landscape Photographer

I recently became obsessed with landscape photography so I decided to try getting my own photo of a sunrise. I drove out to Lake Apopka just west of Orlando and managed to get a couple of pretty cool images. And I didn't even get eaten by a gator! It is enough wide but the height is quite low. Needs to be a bit higher, I guess.

      Thanks for the comment! I’m still in love with mine so I won’t be selling, but I’d recommend checking out the Saddleback buy/sell/trade group on Facebook. People are always selling things on there. Might as well join the Saddleback fan group on Facebook as well just to see photos of everyone’s bags and customizations.

    I like their Chromium tanned leather. Vegetable tanned leather is nice but super waxy and extremely stiff! Plus Vegy tanned leather usually doesn't come with a liner or nylon inserts for durability.

    Just received my Saddleback Leather Flight Bag yesterday and stumbled across your video review. And just wanted to say, you nailed it, nice job. The only thing I didn’t hear was something about the 416 (or whatever) special stainless steel they utilize for all of their metal, which is really a minor point anyway. The camerawork, editing and narration were smooth, natural and engaging. Just wanted to drop a note of encouragement and am looking forward to seeing more of your content. Cheers!

    I heard that opening system is the major weak point in the bag, hows it holding up?

    • @scottsmith4148
      @scottsmith4148 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what you mean by weak point. The hinge is super strong and hasn't shown any signs of weakening. I think I saw one post in the Facebook fan group of someone's bag that had collapsed a bit so it doesn't stand straight up and the opening is a little awkward. That tells me that they routinely cinch the strap down as hard as it'll go, which is a huge mistake. I actually never buckle the top strap at all, but even if I did, I'd definitely make sure not to pull it too tight. Thus far, mine is standing tall and proud.

    • @75thteaster54
      @75thteaster54 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scott Smith I guess I worded it wrong what I meant was that kind of opening hinge system like to kick out or bend inwards or out after few years of use I have a older leather tote type bag with that kind of opening and it has worn on one side and is very hard to open and close, just curious to how it feels in the hand while opening it. Does it feel solid or can you feel play in the hinge? Thank you

    • @scottsmith4148
      @scottsmith4148 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@75thteaster54 Since the Saddleback Gladstone products have only been around for about a year and a half, there's no way to know how they'll age just yet, but I can tell you that it feels extremely solid. There's no play in it whatsoever. I handed mine to a friend once to check it out and he started manhandling it and it made me cringe...yes, they're meant to be used and abused, but everything has its limit. He's also the kind of guy that breaks everything he owns, though. I think that if you take care of it, it'll last a very long time.

    Scott I do have one question now that you have had the flight bag for a while. Any problems with the Gladstone opening?

    • @scottsmith4148
      @scottsmith4148 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      None at all! I don't buckle the top strap...I have a feeling that if you cinch it super tight, it'll put too much stress on the leather and it'll collapse (I saw an example in the Facebook fan group). Mine has been great.

  • @catalyst6245

    • @scottsmith4148
      @scottsmith4148 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! I've always been interested in the Front Pocket Briefcase, but since I already have the Classic Briefcase, I couldn't justify it. The major difference would be size, as the Flight Bag is roughly 2 to 3 inches smaller in each dimension. If you're going to be packing your bag full of stuff or if you need lots of extra space "just in case," then you'll want the Briefcase. But if you can slim down your packing, I think you'd be happier with the Flight Bag overall. I hope that helps!

    • @catalyst6245
      @catalyst6245 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scottsmith4148 Thanks a bunch Scott I have the flight bag enroute to me now for comparison who knows i may keep both of them. Thanks again. i took the front pocket brief case to work today and it was truly a hassle opening and continuing to close the over flap over and over again because it not balance if the flap is not secured. So i'm waiting to see if the flight bag will have enough space for me to carry it as EDC.

    So, I'm stuck between this smaller bag or the big bag.. I'm a rather large fellow. 6'2 and 248lbs. Would I make this bag look weird and small? You should give an example of your size and how it fits when you wear it.

    • @scottsmith4148
      @scottsmith4148 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nathan Torres I hear you. Their bags are generally on the short side, which can look weird on a taller framed person. I’m roughly 5’11” and it looks fine on me. That said, the only difference between the two front pocket backpacks is the depth, so from that perspective, I think the thin looks totally fine. Hopefully I’ll have some shots of me wearing it in the next video.

      @@janeiser34 yes I ended up getting the thin. I’ve asked multiple people if I make it look weird and everyone says it looks totally normal on my frame. I love it.
