    Makes me think keeping an ultrastar in my bag might be a good idea. By the way people, the UltraStar is PDGA approved for tournaments.

    Back then in 77, we heard about a new game. We were only teens but already into the Frisbee sports! DDC, Guts,Distance, Accuracy, K-9 (dogs) and "Frolf". We didn't go pro until spring of 84.. from then on my buddies and traveled, toured, won,lost, and became part of the greatest American sport for all! I'm 58 now.im in great health, still limber,flexible, and can crank a drive over 350' accurately. I lost count of how many aces,titles,and friends I've made but you just keep on chucking and hucking and the great lord will let you know what a piece of plastic did in one's lifetime. Blue Skeleton

      Discs specifically engineered for disc golf didn’t come out until the mid 80’s so prior to that it was played with a regular frisbee (or ultimate disc in today’s terminology). That’s why they were so floaty but they also didn’t go as far

      I think a lot of that prize purse was in discs. I seem to remember that coming up on a podcast. The vast majority of those early prize purses was in “list prices” of discs.

    Those are regular frisbees correct?

    • @rjwalker4153
      @rjwalker4153 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They look like Midnight Flyers, which were not really regular frisbee's because they were some of the early discs actually made for Disc Golf. But they were fashioned more like a frisbee than today's Disc Golf Discs, because they did not have the beveled edge. That came in about 1983 I think.

    • @hyzercreek
      @hyzercreek 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rjwalker4153 They were smaller. I think they were around 9 inches like the 70 mold, these look more like regular 10 inch frisbees

    • @rjwalker4153
      @rjwalker4153 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hyzercreek I have a Midnight Flyer from 1979 and I just measured it. It is exactly 10 inches across. Later models might have been smaller, I don't know. But this one was larger than the modern discs for disc golf. It was made for Disc Golf as it says Disc Golf Association 1979 right on it. It does look much like a regular frisbee though. Also, they could have been using Wham-o Fastbacks (Pro Model) as those were frisbee's approved for Disc Golf and in flight would have looked like a midnight flyer in that they were white with a black ring.

    • @hyzercreek
      @hyzercreek 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rjwalker4153 OK that's good to know, I never had a midnight flyer I always tossed 70 mold in the 70's, which could be 180 grams up to 200 grams but they were only 9 inches. Fastbacks were much lighter I think maybe 119 grams???? Modern golf discs are 8 inches

    • @rjwalker4153
      @rjwalker4153 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hyzercreek Yes the Fastbacks and also Pro Models were much lighter, which to me would not be good for Disc Golf, but in the early days of Disc Golf (later 1970's) my understanding is they were actually used for it.

      Then Scott won the 1978 Worlds? He says in the recent PDGA magazine that he won the 1982 Worlds but that's not true he finished 6th according to pdga.com. Must have won in 1978.
