Little man was making sure to honor his ancestors with the older youth. May thee almighty creator guide and bless every family every relative and in-law. May thee ancestors be with them and guide them alway
Churrr kuzziuso made me emotional solid hot 🔥
No doubt I can definitely say that their spirit, their love for their tradition, their respect for their identity runs through their blood. They're the Maori people of Maoriland New Zealand.
I love seeing people take back their roots like this, especially in countries where Europeans colonized and suppressed the culture and language of the indigenous people they found there. I had a half-Maori friend who was taken from her Maori mother and raised with white people in an effort to erase her heritage. She was forbidden to even speak the language. Thankfully, New Zealand doesn't do that anymore and even embraces their Maori heritage as well as the British heritage. When I was there several years ago, I was kind of surprised to find all placards in a museum to be written in Maori first, then English. After I got over the surprise, I thought "how fitting". We still grapple with the inclusion of native, indigenous cultures here in the US. Our tribes were not terribly interconnected and most didn't speak the same language or have the same customs. It doesn't help that our early government (up to the late 19th century and sometimes even today) did their damnedest to wipe out our indigenous peoples. Even today, our tribes are fighting to regain what they've lost, be it land, language, customs, or just simple respect. Someday, we'll reclaim our own (I'm part Native/Indigenous).

I love watching the Haka being performed. I can’t believe how much emotion I feel when I watch it being performed. I’ve never even been to New Zealand, and I’m from across the planet in Canada. Super cool culture.
