I HATE Dodgy Sponsored Reviews (GoPro vs DJI)
Sorry for the rant, but I like to watch TH-cam videos about cameras, new tech etc to get an idea of what the pros, cons and general new features are from the perspectives of people genuinely interested in the stuff. Some companies like to send products to "influencers" to build brand hype, which can be fine, but when it crosses the line such that the reviews have to be positive and the brand insists on vetting the videos, that starts to get a bit corrupt.
Too many camera reviews are basically paid adverts disguised as reviews, and it really gets my goat.
I use a mix of DJI and GoPro cameras for my filming, and there are ups and downs for both sides. However I've not seen a single review of the new DJI Action 5 camera which hasn't been a sponsored advert blowing smoke up DJI's backside.
Sorry about that, rant over 😅
Cheers,
Alex

Montesa Cota 349: Quick Look and Ride | 1980 Twinshock Trials Bike (For Sale)
มุมมอง 4912 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've decided to part with my classic 1980 Montesa Cola 349 trials bike, as it's just not getting the use it deserves. The bike will be on eBay shortly, hoping to find a new owner who will make better use of it. But before selling it, let's take it for a quick ride and tell you a little bit about it!

Sorting Out the Gear Selection on my 1968 Honda CT90
มุมมอง 1203 หลายเดือนก่อน
As well as not running properly, the other issue my 1968 Honda CT90 had was with the gearbox. Especially once it got warm, it would find itself often in a false neutral, where clicking into what should be first gear turned out to actually be fourth. Convinced the issue lay somewhere between the clutch and gearbox, and hoping it wasn't actually the gears themselves, I decided to tear it down bac...
CT90 Top End Rebuild (with help from my Dad and a spaniel)
มุมมอง 1073 หลายเดือนก่อน
My 1968 CT90 has been burning a lot of oil since I first had it, so over Christmas me and my Dad (the oracle when it comes to small Hondas!) did a quick top end rebuild to take a look, and to replace things like gaskets, stem seals etc. We lapped the valves, and aligned the piston rings to be 120 degrees apart, but otherwise all looked pretty good really. In the next episode I'll take a look at...

Having recently been drafted into MI6 our latest assignment was the infiltration of Blofeld's secret laboratory as seen in the bold film "Spectre". The Ultimate Cheap ABR Festival Bike? | My Dad's Yamaha TT600 Belgarda

Is this the ultimate cheap bike for green laning and ABR festival? My Dad is selling his 1995 Yamaha TT600 Belgarda, and it might just be the bike for you! The TT600 Belgarda is a 600cc single-cylinder Yamaha dual sport bike from the 90s. Whilst the engine and drivetrain is all Japanese Yamaha stuff, the frame is Italian, with the bikes being assembled by Belgarda in Italy. These were never sol...

Riding Motorbikes in the Sahara Desert at Night! | Morocco Episode 3

This was a tough, tiring day, but also a fantastic one! We started out from our lovely B&B and blasted out a few road miles, after finding petrol of course. Just after lunch we turned off the road and into the Sahara, covering over 100km of desert trails. The trail was good fun, but as you'll see we ran into plenty of "fesh fesh", the super soft talcum powder-like sand that can throw the unsusp...

"They all do that Sir". Change the best oil you can buy every [very few] hundred miles and allow them to warm up . That's all you can do. They eat cams and cam journals. The engine is a stretched Z200 so it's already at it's design limits, or perhaps slightly past them........

I need a camshaft for Kawasaki kl/ agi 250 or complete cylinder head
Would you say its a great beginner bike to do some green lanes and lets say 70% on road?
Definitely! The tank is under the seat which helps keep the weight nice and low, and it’s nice and manoeuvrable with not so much power that the rear just spins up 👍
It's great to see one on the road, i have a 1981 Montesa cota 248 that i ride trials on and have managed to register and plan to ride on the road so good to see what I'm in for.
anything chinese i buy, i pull it apart and inspect it. Because the cheaper parts lack quality check standards. if you had've tore it down first, you could've made a cheap simple spacer for $1 which would've worked perfectly.
Hint - after 20 years of searching ... cant find a zero turbulence without a see through barn door. Best option is to get the turbulent air to your neck. No head bobble (when its on your face) and not the square footage for drag( hitting your chest). Sometimes its best to lower your screen rather than raise it. Plus, the shild that fits under your helmet to limit air INSIDE the helmet.
True - I got lucky with the cheap screen I think, but depending on height etc sometimes there’s only so much you can do to eliminate it entirely 🤷
lovely tank , they were for the sherpa model i believe
No need to apologise for the rant! 🙂 I have heard of some motorvloggers that are moving away from Go Pro due to 'freezing' issues especially when they are left to run for long periods. I also watch vloggers that have had no problems with Go Pro and continue to use them without any issue. 🤔Have to say I recorded my first tour in Spain on a (Chinese) TCL SVC 200 that ran all day in 30'C and never missed a beat. Tell 'Mandy' I said 'Hi' the next time you speak. 👍
Nice bike....how are the brakes.!?
They’re very good actually! Worlds apart from my old Bultaco Alpina, the brakes on which were utterly useless!
Do all GTVs and Spiders have a galvanised chassis? I couldn't quite understand your comments about that on the video and would definitely prefer to have one of the galvanised ones. I had a few Alfas in the '80s and '90s including Alfetta GTV6 and I hope to return to Alfas again, I miss that Alfa brio!
I believe the GTVs and same-generation spiders did. I can personally confirm that the 156 did not 😂 I’d love an old GTV6 one day, but the prices have really shot up lately 😬
I got the year 2000 blue 1.8 twin spark with the fiber cloth interior, I like it a lot but I've found a whole black leather package for a nice price, I'm 50/50 on this
The leather Momo seats (from the phase 2 onwards) are very nice, I found them to be very comfortable. I don’t have any experience with the cloth seats but it sounds like a decent upgrade if the price isn’t too high 👍
Very prone to rust - buyers beware!
The GTVs weren’t as bad actually, they galvanised the chassis when they built them. The 156 on the other hand, they really rust…
Great channel. Just discovered it as I'm looking for an F650gs. Seeing one tomorrow actually with 50k miles. You've got a new sub, from just up the M5 in Worcester. I also had the RYD, but as it reached 5 years old, replaced with the NXR2 and found it to be quieter. Good tip on the screen and fuel pump though! Brilliant presenting style!
How did you make those great tintin pictures?
I’ve been playing around with Stable Diffusion XL, a generative AI model. Takes a bit of tweaking of the prompts to get it to draw Hergé style scenes, but good fun! Worth looking at a GitHub repo called Automatic1111 if you don’t mind setting it up yourself and have access to a computer with a fairly powerful accelerator to run it on
If your old hub is aluminum you could have some one weld it and drill a new hole for your spoke.
Hi could you please let me know the make of your alloy Sat nav bracket please
Hi, sorry for the delay. I ordered it from www.cosmo-navi.de in Germany, it's a nice bit of kit
Did you just get overtaken by a pushbike!😂
Just bought a 2.0 TS Lusso and this video helped convince me to buy it
Unusual surname, don’t suppose your Dad is Geoff by any chance
Hi Alex is the old girl for sale then? Great vid. Mick
Thanks! It was for sale until recently -- it's my Dad's bike, but he sold it last weekend.
Hi Alex. Could you tell me how tall are you? I'm planning to buy one of these, but I'm worried about touching the top with my head. I'm 6ft 2in. Thanks.
Hi -- I'm 6'3" and didn't hit the roof, so you'll be fine -- though I did need to lean forward to see when the traffic lights turned green! Avoid GTVs with a sunroof, as these have less headroom. Cheers!
Why would anyone want to go to this godforsaken horror?
Looking back it was rather fun actually! We did meet some lovely people too :-)
I bought this same bike aboit s year ago, i just started working on it, any way i van get some advice for this bike?
Tbh I’ve not really got started on it just yet - parts are generally quite scarce, but service items like gasket kits etc are easy enough to find. My bike has been stood for a while, so I’ll start by getting the top end off to check the bores/pistons etc. I’m also going to have the frame powder coated, which should help it last longer. I’ll make sure to post videos as they come! Good luck with your restoration 👍
Hi Alex, nice video. I’ve got one of these bikes and love it. Would you consider selling your tobinators (screen adjuators) to me? I’ve been looking for a set for ages! Thanks, Will
Hi, thanks for the message -- the bike has now sold, with the tobinators included, sorry!
How much did you received? It would help as a reference! I love this bike!
Sad to see you let this one go. My favourite generation of GS
Those are air pipes lol
Possibly - the point is more they’re sold as petrol hoses at bike shows, so if you don’t know your hose then it’s worth being careful!
@@TittertonRacing amen
Ive always bought mine from the pet shop, fush pump pipe is the best out there. I'm sure it's silicone too
Interesting, thanks for the tip!
Looks like vacuum line
I think you’re probably right tbh. What gets my goat is that the people selling these at bike shows tell you that it’s fuel hose, and then they fall apart like this after less than a year 😬
Had the same thing with some I bought at one of the shows a couple years back. It just went hard and broke within a couple months
Yeah it’s not great is it! Better it happens like this in the garden than out on the trail though. Cheers 👍
I had the same issues on my Triumph Scrambler. I bought several screens, short, tall, even some extenders. I bought a new helmet, custom made earplugs, nothing worked. Until I started to put more effort into “scientific” investigation of the noise sources. I found that the main source of the wind turbulence hitting my helmet was actually caused by the OEM mirrors. I also removed the screens, so I ended up with no screen, and bar end mirrors! Now I have silent ride, with the downside of massive wind pressure on my chest. That doesn’t bother me though, but the noise!
It's tricky isn't it! Big screens look like they'll be the perfect solution, but as you say it's not about the amount of air hitting you, it's the turbulence that causes the problem. My new-to-me Yamaha has a tiny screen but it seems to be just the right shape, so it does a better job than the big screen on my old R1150GSA... strange!
The yellow wire is for the lights, the green is ground, it appears you have grounded the yellow wire at the coil and the ground wire you have inserted into the connector block. This is a problem. Another problem is that you are trying to run trail bikes on the street, this is dangerous on an Alpina because they are unstable at over 50 mph.
Thanks - I’d definitely connected yellow to lights and green to ground (through the block onto a dedicated ground wire bolted to the frame near the coil). A short while later I fitted an electronic ignition, but I think it just masked other problems the bike had such as aged crank seals. Appreciate the point about trail bikes on the street, but I doubt I ever got it too close to 50mph - it didn’t handle brilliantly on the street with the short wheelbase, but it’s ok just for getting between trails if you take it easy 👍
This is the best vlog of a Morocco motorcycle trip love it lads
Top vid lads and refreshing to see your on the right kind of bike for the job
Thanks! Yeah those Honda 250s were terrific, never missed a beat
If a 'nice and friendly' Polceman tells you the nearest petrol is 'That way' It's usually best to listen...🤣 Looks like you guys had quite an adventure! Good call on heading back to the main road...👍 (Apologies, I'm late, I've not been watching much YT lately)
top speed by curiosity?
Apparently 70mph, but mine felt like it would need another gear to get there!
This is a really helpful video, thank you! What gear did you find yourself in most of the time on the first and second green lanes? It seemed like first gear would tractor you along just fine all the way up to 20 mph, yes?
On the 650 1st was a good technical gear, like a tractor as you say, and then into 2nd for the longer/faster parts -- my R1150GS that I replaced it with was far too high geared, with a dry clutch too! At least on the 650 you can feather the clutch without fear of burning it up...
Scrap the Amal .
It’s like waiting for the new series of top gear!!!!! Keep them coming
Hi Alex new subscriber here. Enjoying the vids mate. I’m a Black Country lad too. I had a question if you can offer advice. I change my bike a lot, currently on a classic 350 but previously had adventure bikes. Short version I want one back but can only spend 2.5k. Any ideas what’s reliable cheap and lightish 80/20 on road /off road. I found you as I was thinking 650gs but then saw you swapped it. 😂
Hi Ben - thanks for the kind words! Tbh I’d still recommend the BMW F650GS, it’s a good road trip bike that can handle off road pretty well, and the weight is both pretty light and quite low down as the tank is under the seat. I changed to an 1150 partly because I just fancied one, but also because while the 650 is great it does feel a bit out of power when carrying a passenger and luggage etc. You should be able to get a decent 650 for £2.5k, with a good history etc. Definitely change the windscreen from stock if you’re tall though! A slightly older alternative is the Honda Transalp 650 V-twin - well regarded, carbs rather than injection. I’ve not ridden one though…
@@TittertonRacing Hey thanks for the speedy response. Funnily enough my last bike was a 650 transalp it was almost perfect I just couldn’t deal with the grumpy carbs on cold mornings. I love this 350 but it doesn’t like off roads. I’m no Dakar rider but I enjoy having the option. Think that settles it. I’ll go 650 gs would you go f or g? I’m 6’1 so maybe I’ll need a screen change.
@@bencluroe4183 I think the G650GS is the same frame, engine design etc as the F650GS single cylinder (like I had), just made in China and has a slightly newer lights/instrument cluster. You'll probably get a better-condition single-cylinder F650GS for the same money as they're a little older, whereas a later F650GS twin-cylinder will be a bit more money than the G. I think they're all meant to be really good bikes though, so there's not a right or wrong answer as such.
@@TittertonRacing think I’ve found a 2003 f650 for £1700, I’m gonna Try to squeeze a little more out of it hopefully £1500 but it’s looking like the winner. 23k on clock
So much crap out there, have been let down too many times with it
Thats a very rare bike! Try John Oldfield in Southampton for parts..............he has been a Honda parts dealer since 1964, and might have some things in stock for it.
Good to know, thanks!
Looks a great project Alex, look forward to seeing it come together. The 175 twin is a fab engine
Do your self a favor, replace the fuel filler hose with one that is as long as will fit and fit the hose clamps close to the ends. The reason for this is if you are hit from the side the petrol tank will move causing the short hose to detach causing fuel to spill into the cab. I personally watched a man burn to death for this reason. The longer the hose the more movement can happen before the hose detaches.
americans made some great (looking) cars in the past #MakeAmericanCarsGreatAgain
Didn’t they! And then you look at some of the awful looking cars they made in the 80s-90s like you see in the X-Files, and wonder where it all went wrong 🤷
so, what happened?
It turned out to be a lot better than I'd feared! The horrible scraping noise was just a broken primary chain tensioner, and the pinging was sorted out by playing around with the main jet to richen the mixture slightly. In the end I reverted to the original Amal carb, as I found the pickup to be a bit more crisp. 👍
Did you have any concerns about a wheel off-set? Perhaps not, but on some bikes the hub is not central in the rim depending on brake and drive arrangements. Don't ask me how I know 🙄
Good question! I didn't think there was an offset on the CT90 wheels, but I'm struggling to find any information online to support or refute that... I think the newer 12V C90s have a small offset on the left vs right, but not sure about the CT90s. In any case the spokes only come in 2 sizes, for the inside and outside spokes, so I think setting it up central should be fine 👍
You wanna watch that clutch. Don't burn it out.
Absolutely -- as soon as I could smell it I was very cautious. Got away with it, but I'll stick to faster flowing trails on this bike I think!
Check out this one owner 1974 GTV 2000 on my page.
Hi Alex, nice work, well done in getting her done. I just finished a Z200, lovely little bikes
