Cargo Trailer Camper Conversion | TIME, DIFFICULTY and COST
Today I aim to shed light on the process of a cargo trailer camper conversion and unveil the amount of time and money that was spent on key items like electrical, insulation, etc..
I started with a bare 7x16 cargo trailer and (with some help), added insulation, electrical, air conditioning and more.
Time Stamps:
00:00 - Introduction
00:42 - Brief background and future plans
01:34 - How we started the conversion
02:02 - Insulation
02:14 - Electrical
02:45 - Flooring
03:15 - Paint
03:50 - Cabinets
04:02 - Air conditioning
04:20 - Air conditioning demonstration
05:08 - Comparison to Mini-split A/C unit
06:42 - Upcoming projects
When I was starting this project, the key information I sought but could not find was:
A) How long will it take?
B) How much will it cost?
C) How difficult will it be?
So today I want to highlight these topics in hopes of helping anyone that might be considering a project like a camper conversion.

We're super happy with how the project is coming along so far. We've been working on it for just over a month now and we can see the finish line! In the next episode we will install the air conditioning and put the final touches on the interior.
Cargo Trailer Conversion: Flooring and Trim
มุมมอง 4.6K5 ปีที่แล้ว
In this episode we finish the sub-flooring and put the trim boards back on in preparation for paint. I discuss one of the frustrations of this projects the-far.
Cargo Trailer Conversion: Electrical Wiring
มุมมอง 27K5 ปีที่แล้ว
In this episode we wire the trailer for electrical, put the walls back up, and attempt to replace the trim boards. The next step will be to finish the ceiling and begin the process of painting the interior.
Cargo Trailer Conversion: Insulation
มุมมอง 9K5 ปีที่แล้ว
In this episode we insulate the walls and the ceiling of the trailer and prepare for electrical wiring. I'm still trying to decide on the best way to do these conversion videos so I'll be experimenting with some different styles moving forward. If you have any suggestions please let me know in the comments! Thanks!
Cargo Trailer Camper Conversion: Getting Started!
มุมมอง 3.4K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Welcome to the first episode of my cargo trailer to camper conversion where I take the first steps to converting my 7X16 cargo trailer in to a mobile office and living area! I know this first episode is a bit rough from a video standpoint but it was much harder than anticipated to video AND work on the trailer by myself! I should have some help moving forward which means the video quality shoul...

Minimum research on the web would’ve informed you about Aircon. Camper rooftop penetrations are to be avoided, when possible.

Killer Build!! i’m in the very beginning stages of my journey to converting a cargo trailer into a toy hauler. There’s not many videos out here that are specific like this one. I’d like to reach out to you and pick your brain at some point. Thanks Man👊🏼

The guy up the road bought one just like that and put in two sets of bunk beds refrigerator microwave and air conditioner he has three Mexican girls living in it and they go off grid every weekend sometimes for a whole week or two, he seems like a very happy man....

Personally, I like the low light when you shut the door. Your boyfriend would probably enjoy it too as it adds ambiance.

Murphy bed, you can build them yourself with proper research and can make a bed/sofa murphy bed so you can get a sofa and a bed for as little space

I'll be putting one in mine since i dont see the need to have a set table for eating and stuff , im gonna use a pull out table or folding table that i can store away or fold in

I appreciate the information about the A/c unit... I would have made the same mistake. Just sitting here listening to you a rough idea came to mind. What if you installed the outside unit for your mini split inside the v nose area on a sliding drawer so you could open a exterior camper style door slide it out when in use. Slide it back in for travel

Wiping with water raises the grain. Use a brush, and then a tack cloth.

I appreciated your comments about the mental aspect. Must be frustrating to do a bunch of work, and then it looks like nothing has changed. I will struggle with that when I do my conversion.

Bathroom can be simple! Bag all poop so no black water tank! Use 3 x 7.5 gallon fresh water tanks with valves and hoses. Store them up a bit for gravity to do the work. Have a small shower head that can be used for cleaning, washing, bathing, etc... Trickle water... Flat basin on the floor which can hold water or drain out via a larger flex tube. Don't put anything nasty in the basin so you can just drain where appropriate. Poop and pee can be bagged and discarded appropriately. If you use paper towels and tp bag them up with the poop and pee. Try not to cook greasy food and messy smelly crap! Do most cooking outside! Heat just water or warm pre made dishes. Small microwave if so inclined. Air-conditioning, 5000 btu manual Walmart window style is plenty $155. Make a flush or regressed box or even cut a perfect sided rectangle for mounting. Never overrun ac, just cool things off. 5000 btu is good for the size. Heat can be done hundreds of ways, just be careful to not suffocate or burn. Serious caution! Keep it simple and style and fashion should not be the priority, form and function, and cost, should be... MarkMannM2

Put a sky light in that hole for the ac and get a mini split system. Add a composting toilet in a wet bath configuration and a Murphy bed opposite your desk and you’re done.

I have research many bed solutions. The murphy bed still gives you good cargo floor space when the bed is stowed, but a very comfortable bed to sleep in the down position. Considering the ceiling height the bed can be built horizontally. This can accommodate twin, full or queen size. There are many mechanisms such as counterweight, piston shocks, or purchased bed hardware from Rockler to help with lift assist. Good Luck!

I just found your channel. I'm looking at converting a trailer so thanks for posting this. I'm about to take the walls off and was wondering if you have any tips for me. I know this video is old so I'm not sure you will even get this.

Hey Mike, I'd love to help, but without knowing how your walls are attached it would be hard for me to give any helpful advise, honestly. If they're attached with the same screw/nail hardware as mine- all I can say is to prepare yourself for lots of frustration and good ole' elbow grease lol! Thanks for checking out the channel- I'm hoping to start working on the trailer again soon and I'll post more updates as I do!

Should have gone with a mini-split AC. And what makes you think that people camping and living in it are OK with the noise?

  • @maingig1

Definitely would be best to keep it low profile. Maybe a 2" rear receiver with a small weather box like a overland van? 🤔

Isn't the main thing you want the AC for is sleeping when the heat is just unbearable? Seems like you could just pop in some earplugs and crash out to a night of cool sleeping. I understand why you hate it though.

I do plan to add more windows..it's a must! I'm just trying to find my way with the steps of my conversion. Luv the pallet wall & thanks for sharing your build.
