52) Off the Chains Disc Golf - A VR Game Review for those 50 and up.
I've never have played Disc Golf in real life, but I do enjoy the challenge of playing it in VR.
Disc Golf (in reality) is where you throw a disc (Frisbee) hundreds of feet to a chain basket to score the lowest points by having to take the fewest throws to get it in. Very much like the regular golf with a club and a ball, just using a frisbee instead.
This game takes that real life game and turns it into a VR game you can play all year around and without having to go outside into the course of trees, water, animals or people.
It can be played solo or in multiplayer with several different course in several different difficulties to play in.

51) Tube Be Continued - A VR Game Review for those 50 and up.

This game is a little silly and a little childish, but I still enjoyed it. You are recruited by "Tube Industries" a company owned and operated by hamsters, to help them by tapping into your brain power and solving the challenges for them. You have to help your hamster get through his maze of tubes to unlock the next level. The only problem is some tubes are missing, so you have to do additional...

I was thinking this would be a game for kids 10 to 16 but I was wrong. It is also for adults 50 and up. @@Mre942 That would be very cool. I would buy that. I did train modeling back in the 1970s, and when I retired, I thought I would try it again, and the prices were crazy! I then tried a 1/4 scale remote controlled motorcycle doing Evel Knievel style jumps in 1/4 scale but after a few crashes, it was hard and expensive to get it fixed. So, I got into VR instead. There is one coming out this year where you get to drive recreations of real trains. You start out on small easy ones and make your way up to faster, longer and cooler ones as you make your way learning how to drive trains.

    For those youngsters posting negative posts here about this game, because evidently you did not actually watch the video to learn the facts, instead you saw the title and just decided to dump on this game. 1) The "story" in this game is actually the TURTORIAL in disguise as a short Star Wars Movie. IT IS NOT THE GAME. It is there for you (on rails) to teach you everything you will need to know when you get into the ACTUAL game, which is the Dojo portion. It is not there to "challenge" you, it is there to TEACH you. If you were to put the three stories from all the games together into one video, you would get a short Star Wars movie of which YOU are the star. (I may do this in the future) 2) Those of us 50 and up will do one of two things when confronted with mean posts by youngsters. (Anyone under 40) A: We will slap you so hard with facts and evidence, that you will fly into next week. B: We will just delete and block you because we are tired of arguing with ignorance. I am sorry to those of you forced to read the hate filled posts from a couple of clowns who think they know better. I have deleted and blocked them both. Please enjoy your day.

      Not sure what you mean by "frame jumping" but if you are speaking of the black area that pops in and out on the right side of the screen, that's something with the Quest 2, that they have to help people not get motion sickness while watching the video. It's kind of annoying but I keep it in so that other can enjoy the long videos without motion sickness. I also don't like that the yellow outline of my boundary shows up when I look down.

    I’m only 21 but I’m really thankful there’s someone out there trying to make video games more approachable even for people decades older than I am. Though I do recommend trying to learn editing software to make these videos shorter and more organized like other game reviews. That might make it easier to watch for younger people who could then show it to their older relatives to introduce them to video games.

    • @OldGuyVRGamesReviews
      @OldGuyVRGamesReviews 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for watching the video. You have some interesting ideas for my page so let's look at them. Editing software: By not editing the videos, it shows that I am a real person, that I do make mistakes, and I am not perfect. It also shows that I am not A.I. and allows the viewer to get to know me better and maybe trust my opinion. Shorter videos: I want people to see more and the actual game play, and not video provided by the creators of the games. One does have the ability to skip forward over parts they do not wish to view. Most reviewers chop it up and only show the "exciting parts" as a way to fool people into buying the game because they are sponsored and don't want to anger any sponsors or possible future sponsors. My videos are for people 50 and up. If people under 50 watches, that is wonderful, but I am aiming for the older audience to educated them on the games so they can then decide for themselves if they would enjoy the game or decide to not waste their money on it. Thanks again, if you have any more ideas for me, please private message them to me to check out.

    I love the casual pace taken by these games. There is the odd insanity fight scenarios but for most of the game you're exploring and trying to figure stuff out. I have played all the other 3D platformers and they almost all require fast reflexes, precision play and the need for continuous movement to progress through the levels. At my age the reflexes just aren't quite what they used to be lol

And the narrowing pieces (*2) where 2 slot cars can't be next to each other.. On the other hand.. a slot car kit with infinite pieces.. That used to be a dream scenario... As long as people are playing, they should continue to improve it. I only play Quest games, so I don't know if it is available on other systems. I would guess it is for the Quest system only for now.

    I bought my first MR game after watching this. Long time VR gamer, on my Rift S, newer to my Quest 3 though. 60+ long time gamer too. Any idea why the track pieces keep coming apart at various places around the track, by about 1 to 3cm. Waving the controller pointer near it, fixes it, but it can 'crack' a few moments later. The car will navigate fine, as if it is joined, but it looks horrible. Any ideas? Enjoyed the video cheers, subscribed.

      While still in the "build" mode, if you should point either of your controllers at any piece of the game, and squeeze either the grip or the trigger, the game will think you want to do something with that piece and if you are not aware of what you are doing, that piece can end up moving. Once you are done building and want to race the car, you can "save" the track which takes it out of the "build" mode. You can then later go back into the "build" mode and add/subtract or move things. As long as you are still in "build" mode things can accidently be moved with the controller without realizing it. I hope that helps. Not sure if I actually answered your question. Did you do a really good scan of the room before starting your build? When I scanned my room, I walked around to make sure it got everything including the space behind my couch so I could later place a track behind it to run a race there.

      @@OldGuyVRGamesReviews Thanks for the quick response, there's a bit to take in. Firstly, the scan, are you suggesting the game has a scan mode itself or just the standard system scan? I probably have never done any form of room scan to make it ready for any MR, only a scan for setting up the usual VR boundary, so maybe that is the place to start this conversation. What is this scan you are referring to? How do I initiate that? I can't say I noticed it.

      @@MadMaxToo61: Somewhere in the settings is a button to click to scan your rooms for the headset. I also recently had another MR game that asked me to scan the room. When I did the original scan, it asked me to walk around slowly and look around to scan everything. It made a grind of the room marking off and labeling everything in the room like tables and chairs. I scanned the Livingroom, the hallway, the kitchen and the steps leading to the third floor. That scan is what I am guessing allows me to move around, even outside the boundary and run the cars behind the couch.

      @@OldGuyVRGamesReviews Cheers, I asked Google and it replied with 'To perform a full room scan on a Meta Quest 3, go to your headset settings, navigate to "Environment setup" > "Space setup" where you can initiate a room scan using the integrated depth sensor; this will allow you to digitally map out your room's boundaries and layout within the virtual environment. ' Thanks for your help I will check that out. Back four years ago I watched a step-by-step video from a young lady who led me through the part about the developer mode. I'm sure it has changed in the last 4 years so maybe she or other gamers have a video on TH-cam that can help you out. I don't think I have ever needed to use the "developer" mode for anything? I'm finding more and more people 50 and up getting into VR. I'm guessing some of the reasons are we tend to have disposable income to spend on them. We are the very end of the "Boomers" and the beginnings of "Gen X", so our upbringing has kept us young at heart and our imaginations running wild. We (most) are also done with the "Wild & Crazy" antics of life and are settling down into a comfortable place to relax and have fun without excessive consumption of drugs and/or alcohol. Put this all together and we are perfect for VR like the Quest 2, Q3 & Q3S and beyond.

    Neat augmented reality Idea! I’m late 50’s and had slot cars when I was a kid, and when I had kids of my own, it was too good an opportunity to pass, so I got my sons slot car sets too. Now my sons are in their late teens and have a Quest 2 headset, I’m wondering if I have a third opportunity now! I love the amount of detailing & customisation that the devs have put into this, very well done! My only negative feeling is that the way the car seems to respond to the controller seems a bit off to me, it looks ‘all or nothing’, like it’s hard to modulate the speed, & therefore control, of your car. Maybe, hopefully, there is some customisation available with how the cars respond to the controller.

    • @OldGuyVRGamesReviews
      @OldGuyVRGamesReviews 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When you go to buy it, the instructions say it can be played on the Quest 2, but I think your surrounding areas will be either black/gray and very grainy. I recorded on the Quest 3 for the color surroundings. I hope you find it as enjoyable as I do. I'm a all or nothing kind of person so that was my fault. You can gently squeeze the trigger and the car will go. The harder you squeeze in the faster it will go. The car also gains speed the longer you hold in the trigger. I played one tonight that was all loops and I have the problem of just squeezing the trigger all the way in until the car crashes. With the loops it just kept getting faster and faster going around and around. It was so fast that I could not even follow the car with my eyes. Eventually it finally flew off the track.

    • @TheLDunn1
      @TheLDunn1 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ …..and that is what I meant, in real slot cars, they do not keep getting faster the longer you hold the trigger down. There is a top speed they reach when the trigger is held down. On a real slot car track, you would need a decently long straight to get to that top speed, but even if you had one 10x as long, you wouldn’t get any faster. That characteristic in the VR game seems wrong to me. Also, if I held the trigger half way down, in the real slot cars, you’d get a steady half speed on the track, but I suspect, from the way you have described it, that in the VR, if you held the throttle half way down you would not get to a half car speed, but the car would just continue to pick up speed but at maybe half the acceleration vs holding the trigger fully down. It’s like there is no real world physics involved in the calculation of vehicle speed, the trigger is just an accelerator and when held the car keeps accelerating at the rate the trigger is squeezed to. In real slot cars, the trigger is controlling the voltage reaching the motor in the car, usually, up to 12v max, that limits the top speed, as does the gearing used, friction, weight, aerodynamics, etc. This seeming lack of physics in the speed calc of the cars makes me wonder if there is any differences in the way different models of cars perform in the VR game. For example, in the real world a beginner might be better off with a heavier, lower centre of gravity car because it will be slower and less prone to coming off the track, but I suspect that there is little to no difference in the car handling in the VR game. It wasn’t just top speed, the way the cars slowed seemed too abrupt as well, like they didn’t have much momentum. I still think it looks like a great VR idea, but, I’d like to see a v2 where the modelling of the cars handling is significantly improved. It would be neat if you could import your own 3d models for cars and buildings & objects too. It would also be great if there was support in the track editor for multi lane layouts too, with cross over sections of track where you can switch your car from one slot to another, or continue on your own slot - real world slot cars have this now using digital chips in the car & PCM signals in the electrical feed in the track rails to the car so cars can remain independently controlled. Yeah, you are right, re the Quest 2, the pass through video of your surroundings is poor, just being black and white and very grainy. I’ve looked through a Quest 3 and was really impressed by how much better the pass through is. The pass through on Quest 2 is not a huge issue until you start looking at augmented reality games, where the game appears to be located within your real world surroundings, then the Quest 2 is really lacking. My son bought his Quest 2 secondhand, the 3 was out and on sale already, and we discussed if it was worth paying the extra for (but had not looked through either). Ultimately it came down to cost, the used quest 2 was about a third of the price, AND that neither of us had any experience with VR headsets, but my son was keen to get something to try it out, see what he thought about it, and a cheap quest 2 is good for that.
