Ah those were the days. Early 70's piles of elephant crap and straw on fire and those heavy brass ball standpipes we had to carry because Belle Vue owners wouldn't update their fire hydrants to SV. Plenty of fires in that ageing infra structure.

I used to love this ride! I was so sad to see it had gone when I first went back after it closed.

the airtime here looks so much better than what it provides now, although knowing how rough big dipper is now I don’t think the airtime would be worth it (especially at the speed you’re going, Christ you’ll break your hip or something 😭😭)

It’s a tremendous shame that Apocalypse is gone. Even if you didn’t ride it, it was a massive beacon in the park that could be seen for miles, and it looked really cool. Drayton Manor won’t ever be the same again.

Me and my mate mick used to do this ride standing up leaning on the rails back in the late 70s early 80s obviously we were showing off, can you imagine the health and safety nowadays (no chance)

I was from gorton leesy my nickname me and the lads david pirie Neil Herbert janek stzala and his brother Karl all had a laugh at belle vue and speedway there growing up in Gorton was funny😅

I used to ride this when I was a kid with my best friend, Hamish. The greatest night of my life was when Goose from BMX Bandits was the employee running it. Though now it makes me sad to think that Goose didn't make enough money from BMX Bandits to give up his day job.

I legit have childhood trauma from this

Me and my dad rode this when I was either 10 or 11, so either 2004 or 2005. We went to the cafe that it ran next to afterwards for a bite to eat. If I remember correctly, it still had its original decor at that time and it looked nice.

Used to live across morecambe bay in barrow.An hours train ride to morecambe.have a few goes in this then head to the ranch bar coz they never asked for ID. Few pints then back on the cyclone again,sometimes backwards.get the train home and wake up an hour later with a hangover.great days,never forgotten

Great quality footage.

I remember riding this whilst doing some work there for a month around 2001/2. What added an extra thrill was knowing that they walked the track every morning before opening, and banged dozens of nails into the track!

The track must have been delivered in a rust color. When the coaster opened in 1978, it had been given a silver coat of powder paint. Ironically, it was repainted to rustic brown color around 1984/1985. Also, notice how the train is without its cab hood.
