Tone's Gardening Vlogs
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 24 ส.ค. 2023
My flower, fruit and vegetable growing videos from the north east of England, with a few cooking videos sprinkled in for good measure.
vlog#22 - Lifting Senshyu Yellow Onions
This video was recorded on Monday 15th July 2024. It had been a dry, very warm and sunny day, which made a pleasant change from the weather so far this July.
I lifted the Senshyu Yellow Onions and although two went straight into the waste bag I harvested 39 bulbs. Some were a decent size, others not so good, but considering I've not done a great deal to them since planting I'm quite pleased. The onions are now curing in the little greenhouse and I'll definitely be sowing more seeds in the not too distant future.
I'd appreciate it if you'd subscribe to my channel where you can take look at my other videos and if you ‘ding’ the bell you can keep up with my successes and failures throughout the season. Please also feel free to leave a comment or ask a question and I’ll try to get back to you promptly.
TTFN,
Tone

vlog#21 - Taking out a side shoot, by hand
มุมมอง 5114 วันที่ผ่านมา
In vlog#20 'Almost a Green Acre' mentioned that she'd wanted to see the pruning process. So, rather than type a long reply, I decided to show what I did in quick video. I hope this is of use. TTFN, Tone
vlog#20 - Pruning tomato side shoots and leaves
มุมมอง 7414 วันที่ผ่านมา
In this video I prune the side shoots and excess leaves off the tomatoes and look at the cucumber plants and the lettuce, which isn’t particularly healthy. This was filmed on Saturday 13 July 2024 and although this is summer time, the weather so far this July, in north east England at any rate, has been cool and wet, with some very heavy rain and some gusty winds around 40mph. I'd appreciate it...
vlog#19 - Tomato update
มุมมอง 83หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I show the status of the tomatoes that I planted in an earlier video, plus the tomatoes that I sowed at the end of April, which are all now planted in the glasshouse too. The newer batch of tomatoes look healthier, stronger and now, with a glasshouse full of tomato plants, I hope to have a bumper crop of the fruit later in the season. The varieties I’ve grown this year are Gardene...
vlog#18 - Has spring actually sprung?
มุมมอง 412 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I plant out cauliflower seedlings into this season’s brassica bed as well as sowing additional beetroot to try and top up the non-germinated stations. It is also time to prick out and pot on the additional tomato seedlings that I sowed, on April 25th, and I decided to plant out the etiolated tomato plants into the glasshouse. At the end of April and into the beginning of May the t...
vlog #17 - Terrrible tomatoes
มุมมอง 502 หลายเดือนก่อน
Originally filmed on April 25th 2024, in this video I review the state of my tomatoes. I mutter on about the poor growth possibly being down to too much water, too low a temperature, but looking at the plants, with their long internodal distances, thin stems and small leaves it can only really be etiolation caused by lack of light. So far, spring 2024 has been a cold, gloomy grey and wet season...
vlog #16 - I'm planting onions and potatoes at long last!
มุมมอง 132 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I plant onions into my vegetable beds, sow some beetroot along side and plant potatoes in 30 litre and 13 litre buckets. Please take look at my other videos, like them if you enjoy them, feel free to leave a comment and I'd appreciate it if you'd subscribe to my channel. Cheers, Tone
vlog#15 - a look at the glasshouse and some of my fruit trees with a quick sowing of some seeds
มุมมอง 163 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I show how crowded and unproductive my glasshouse has become, but in my defence it has been a poor start to the season with lots of rainy days and cold temperatures. I also show my pear trees, some of my apple trees and sow a few more seeds in an attempt to catch up. Please take look at my other videos, like them if you enjoy them, feel free to leave a comment and I'd appreciate i...
vlog #14 - Potting on tomatoes
มุมมอง 83 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I’ll be potting on the tomatoes that I sowed on 24th March, they were: Gardener's Delight, Roma VF, Sungold, Supa Mamma, Tiny Tim, Yellow Perfection They are a little leggy, but I’m sure they’ll do alright as the season develops. Please take look at my videos, like them if you enjoy them, feel free to leave a comment and I'd appreciate it if you'd subscribe to my channel. Cheers, ...
vlog #13 - More seeds to sow
มุมมอง 193 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I’ll be sowing peas, basil, mint, leeks, sunflowers and trying again with the Greyhound cabbage and Evesham Special Brussels sprouts. And apparently it was Jack Scott who said the "sorry about the F in fog" line when the magnetic F fell from the board during a weather forecast on BBC television many years ago, not Ian McCaskill as I had thought. Please take look at my videos, like...
vlog #12 - Lousy seed germination
มุมมอง 403 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I review the poor germination from the seedlings I sowed a couple of weeks ago. None of the onion seeds have germinated so I got some onion sets. The broad beans also failed to germinate, but they were old seed and the cabbage, Brussels sprouts, sage and celery have also failed to germinate. Thankfully the tomatoes have had more success as have the cauliflower. Please take look at...
vlog #11 - DIY around the garden
มุมมอง 274 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I "plumb in" my two new water butts ready to harvest the coming rainfall and I repair a window on my 8' x 6' polycarbonate greenhouse. Please take look at my videos, like them if you enjoy them, feel free to leave a comment and I'd appreciate it if you'd subscribe to my channel. Cheers, Tone
vlog #10 - Seed sowing, lifting carrots and planting brassica
มุมมอง 234 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is my first seeds sowing video of the 2024 growing season. I don’t plan on sowing a huge variety of vegetables for eating this year, as I don’t have a big plot, but I do hope to grow a large amount. Throughout the season I’ll hopefully show the progress I make and any failures too. Please take look at my videos, like them if you enjoy them, feel free to leave a comment and I'd appreciate i...
vlog #9 - the 2024 gardening season begins
มุมมอง 364 หลายเดือนก่อน
As February 2024 draws to a close it is time to begin the new season of gardening. In this video I prepare the glass house for garlic, which were started in pots. Why do garlic in the glass house? When I sow garlic out doors on my patch the plants suffer from rust. When I grow them in the glass house they are rust free. I also prick out and pot on some seedling cabbage, kale, and onions.
vlog #8 - Garlic sowing
มุมมอง 229 หลายเดือนก่อน
I decided to sow some garlic cloves after all. I bought some soft neck garlic, Thermidrome, and sowed them into 9cm square pots. When they germinate and develop a root system I'll plant them in the glass house, as if I plant them into the raised beds they'll likely get rust. Cheers and happy gardening!
They're looking great 😃
Thank you. The temperatures in the UK have started to rise too, so hopefully the tomatoes will start to ripen.
@@TonesGardeningVlogs you're very welcome.. I'm sure they'll ripen nicely Friend 😁
Great Video 😃 I see fruit starting to form on your tomato plants.. I'm so excited for you, thank you for sharing 🙏
Thank you, yes the tomatoes look so much better now than they did at the beginning of the season.
@@TonesGardeningVlogs you're welcome.. Pretty soon you will be giving them the ol' taste test 🙏
Just found your channel mate it's my first year gardening just pulled my first onion i grew from seed. It's only 2/14 inch big but the stalks had bent over above the head for a few days so thought i'd better take it out.I'm made up haha.Have a lovely night.
Cheers. I'll be growing more Senshyu onions from seed in the days ahead. I'm chuffed you're enjoying your gardening and what's not to love, you get to eat what you grow, which is fantastic. Thanks again for watching and commenting.
Nice little harvest of onions 🙂How long were they in the ground for? You could do a vid on making that soup and dumplings, lol. Sounds lovely. My mother always made dumplings but I never seemed to master a good technique. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much Tone for doing this short video. I appreciate it 🙂- Krista -
You're welcome. I was happy to help explain a little more of what I did.
@@TonesGardeningVlogs Sometimes on TH-cam it can be confusing because everyone seems to do different trimming techniques for their tomatoes. Also, the trimming seems to different for determinant versus indeterminate. I have cherry, beef steak and roma here.
@@AlmostaGreenAcre-zs5eu I think the indeterminate tomatoes in my glasshouse are Sungold, Gardener's Delight, Yellow Perfection and Supa Mamma. I grow these as a single stem, or cordon and these are the plants that I prune out the side shoots from. I think the determinate tomatoes are the Roma VF and Tiny Tim, but the more space Tim gets the less Tiny he stays. I tend to prune these to allow air flow and ease of watering, although I opted to cordon the Tiny Tim in the glasshouse as it was too wild for my liking.
@@TonesGardeningVlogs I will also be going with a main stem and pruning side shoots and also giving airflow with the determinants. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙂
I wanted to see the pruning process but you didn't show any of that. Nice looking veggies for sure.
OK, I'll fix that for you. Side shoot pruning video coming up.

Welcome to my channel. I hope you enjoy watching the content I produce, although I have to admit that nature does most of the hard work.
Very nice Fruit Trees 😀 I think the pruning looks good 🎉 Apple Crumble sounds delicious.. Thank you for sharing 🙏 Keep up the amazing work
Yes, apple crumble does sound good - you've just given me an idea for a future video, thank you!
@@TonesGardeningVlogs You're Welcome 😁 Can't wait to see it 🎉
Great Video 😃🎉 Your Tomatoe Plants are about to blow up 🍅🙏 Lots of potatoes that are looking healthy and the celery is the greenest I've ever seen.. I gave a big thumbs up 👍 Have an excellent week my Friend... Oh yeah, that's a neat shirt 😎
Thank you for the encouragement, I'm chuffed with the tomatoes, it was touch and go earlier in the season. I hope the potatoes are growing plenty of tubers and not just leaf.
@@TonesGardeningVlogs You're Welcome 😁 I'm pretty sure everything is going to come out great 🙏 Happy Growing Friend..
😁🎉 Great Video I'm happy to see your Progress 🙏
Thank you, it has been a slow start to the year. Overall it has been a cold and very wet spring, with low light levels. As for yesterday, well it was more heavy rain - but the sun is shining today, hurray!
@@TonesGardeningVlogs Slow and steady wins the race my Friend 😁 I bet they're soaking up those sun rays ☀️ Hoping for more sunny days for you 🙏

What a wonderful harvest! I’ve never had much luck with my blueberries. Thanks for the info- I subscribed! I have a few gardening videos on my channel as well, you should check it out 😊
I've subscribed to your channel too. I enjoyed your cucumber pickling video, if only my cucumbers this year had been a fraction as successful as the blueberries then I could have borrowed your pickling recipe. I look forward to watching your other videos and future content. Cheers and happy gardening!
