METRO Green Line Extension SWLRT Construction - July 2023
Video of the Metro Green Line Extension, more commonly know as Southwest Light Rail Transit (SWLRT), in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The video starts at the Southwest Station in Eden Prairie and flies along the alignment at a constant elevation and speed towards downtown Minneapolis. With only one battery, the alignment was flown over several days. The estimated one-way travel time from Southwest Station in Eden Prairie to Target Field Station in Minneapolis is 32 minutes per the Southwest LRT wiki, which the video roughly matches in length. Muting the sound and changing the playback speed to x2 will fly the alignment in about 17 minutes.

The bridge part of this route reminds of of the Tide LRT’s, Super excited for the release of this network! But by the time it’s released am going to be a light rail operator
Can't wait to see the Northwest extension up to Brooklyn Park.
What city metro is this
Eden Prairie City in Minnesota suburb Minneapolis
If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve thought this line would be open by the end of the year.
Waste of money, now the taxpayers have to pay more taxes to fix this Lightrail expansion brain fart. 👎
The line will bring all the problems from Downtown to the suburbs. Assaults, drug use on the train, fare jumpers. They have about 3 years to get these problems addressed before it opens. The drone footage at 200 feet and the music make it sound idyllic.
Great to see the progress, impressed with the amount of grade separation, this route should be able to maintain pretty good speed. My main concern watching this footage is with the station integration into their surroundings. Many of the stops seem to have too little pedestrian access, or only has access on one side when there should be access on both. I feel planners often underappreciate how important quality pedestrian connections are to successful transit.
Basically a decent route. A few stations though, are quite out of the way. The Bryn Mahr station is so isolated they needed to build a special embankment and walking bridge to get to it. Never been impressed with the city planners- ever
It would have been much better if they could have gone straight through Uptown, but they couldn’t.
2:32 so many cars are going to be caught on that crossing
It’s not as busy but you never know
Slip lanes are so stupid, I can't believe they're still building them
trains run every 15 minutes, take maybe 30 seconds to at most to cross (including the signal delays for safety) and have signal priority at the light. anytime a car waits for the train will pale in comparison to the time they sit waiting for other cars at a red light. i don't think it'll be a problem
happy for more transit, but it seems from this video this part of the line will be way less utilized than the existing metro infrastructure. Also the amount of bridges and tunnels needed for this route... I am shocked in hindsight it is even being built.
It was basically forced through by an unelected group that thinks there will be demand when the service isn’t meeting the demand there already is and it is unwanted by many parts of the community.
Can't wait until this is open to the public!!! I really hope it doesn't get delayed.
It better not… it’s already delayed like 5 years
and when is it supposed to be open?
@@simonmrnka3405they’re aiming for 2027, but definitely before 2030. Construction is about 70% done. Don’t quote me on this but I thought in the original plan it was supposed to open this year! Some funding issues, environmental test, and people who are against it have been holding it back.
@@weeeee33 that's wild, cause from the first half of the vid it looks like it's ready for operation
@@simonmrnka3405yeah these things take a while. You can’t just run them as soon as construction is over unfortunately.
I love the apartments built right next to Opus Station, we desperately need more transit oriented development in the US❤
We call them flyovers not bridges. But that's okay.
Thank u!!
Thanks for the drone footage. I've been trying to see what the updates are on the route
Fantastic footage! It’s exciting to see the progress! 🚊🚊🚊
