Chicken Hawk vs Chickens!
This little kestrel stole a mouse from our chickens, and an epic battle ensured. The kestrel did escape, unhappy but unharmed.

Not a chicken hawk! Its an American kestrel, eats mostly mice and insects and the sparrows that eat the chicken feed!

A lot of folks underestimate how fast and tough roosters are.
I am always surprised at the speed and the timing of these chickens in this video, like these hawks will be flying in one direction, and the chicken will move quick enough and know the timing to catch them at a very specific spot to snuff them in 1-2 seconds. Sniper work!

Im glad the little kestrel ended up okay 🥺 he probably got a little too tunnel visioned chasing a mouse and ended up realizing how junebugs must feel😭thank you for gifting him a mouse! He learned a valuable lesson to keep his distance, those galló’s aren’t neighborly at all!

The bird is a male American Kestrel - a falcon which is wrongly known in the US as a Sparrow Hawk because it is not a hawk. They eat mainly small rodents and insects. They are no threat to the chickens at all. My guess is that he went into the run after a mouse and got attacked. Perhaps instead of filming on your mobile phone, you might have made sure he didn't get hurt.
I made sure he wasn’t hurt and fed him a mouse after. He is well and still hangs nearby all the time. Yes I know it’s a Kestrel. I wasn’t worried about my chickens. Just a title. If he’d been in any real danger I would have helped.

Not a chicken hawk ( Cooper’s hawk). That’s a tiny American kestrel. I hope you did not let the chickens hurt her. She is no threat. She eats small rodents and grasshoppers.
It's just nature taking is course. That hawk is still a threat to chicks and the hens see that. If they was to kill the hawk I wouldn't blame them one bit. What this guy needs to do is put a wire top over his chicken pen to keep hawks and owl's out like I have in my chicken pen.

yes thats a kestrel. definitely not a hawk. ive read they're related to falcons, but kestrels hunt rodents mice and lizards. some farmers love having kestrels bcoz kestrels sound alarms if they see hawks flying around they said it helps the hens or chickens to run for cover.
I’ve had cooper hawks kill my chickens so anyone that thinks it’s not a threat is wrong!

Chicken hawk has a death wish! My hens can kill a mouse or chipmunk with a couple of strong pecks. Roosters are a lot stronger than hens and will fight even when seriously injured.

Those chicken hawks don’t give up. Still hanging around the coop. The human made it move a little bit it will keep coming back. It didn’t seem fazed by the chicken defense. Any baby chicks would have immediately disappeared.
@@mr.objective6936 I agree, i too have the same problem in my farm, I use small firecrackers to scare them off whenever I spot them but as you said, they will always be hanging around the little chickens to pick them away

That bird is a kestrel.A smaller bird of falcon family.they hunt mostly mice,small bird,insects.(my english is not good,sorry for mistakes🙂)

Thats a sparrow hawk. Don't think it can kill a chicken, its to small.
@@bunkster9932 we have cooper's hawks about the size of a falcon(over 11+inches) and they are dangerous. There are a few other hawks in this size group they're all dangerous but a sparrow hawk is half that size, though they have the same silhouette as a larger hawk. The hawk in this video looks small. I rehabed a sparrow hawk and the chickens would freak out when they saw her but she just ate bugs and mice, even saw her perched on the power lines with the pigeons. The coopers bite off the heads and rip open the chest of my pigeons.
@@fubey8x I should have said it looks like a sparrow hawk it just looks small to me. I know hawks can be lethal. It looks like those chicken are doing more damage than they are getting. It's just an observation. Not all hawks are a threat to large chickens. Please look up "chicken hawk".
if they can nab a mouse a chick is on the menu even if a adult bird isn't... normally predator aim for the young, old, or weak.

I've seen the damage the coopers can do to my pigeons, went from 200 to 125 in a month, they fly right into the bird house, my husband has caught and released about 4 that were in the house. I've looked them in the eye, I've seen their claws and beak close up, they are formidable and beautiful, I hold them no grudge, life can be brutal, it will eventually kills you. What is the ratio of hawks to pigeons and chickens? I do what I can to protect my birds but I will never kill a hawk. Once again I will say that bird looks small to me. Chickens are capable of murder. Nature isn't touchy feely. Are you worried the hawk is going to eat your chicken before you do?
