    Listening to this ten years now since this talk was given - striking to hear him advocate for the left expending still more energy trying to take political party apparatuses and the news media back from the clutches of neoliberalism. The fact that at that point, in 2013, he still thought that the neoliberal ruling class (a term which I prefer to use rather than simply 'the right') would let its power over such institutions slip to allow itself to be challenged through such means ever again is really something in hindsight.... Sad to think that he wouldn't even live to see not just the thorough campaign to undermine Jeremy Corbyn's leadership of the Labour party, but the role that the 'mainstream media' (including the supposedly more 'left' elements within it) would so disgustingly play in it. It isn't 'neo-anarchism' but simply (ahem- ) realism to consider that as neoliberalism gets more and more discredited, the institutions that it has come to permeate will as well. And as they do, people are going to need alternatives to turn to. And such alternative formations won't exist if those who would form them have instead expended their energy banging their heads against the wall, thinking we are still in a prior era when a pre-neoliberal ruling class permitted outlets to pressures from below through such existing institutions.

    (1:57) Yes - I've often thought it might be better understood as capitalist 'fatalism' rather than 'realism.'

      Macro Museum Rome, that's the interior of the conference area. It can't be repainted due to a contractual clause with the original architect so is this glaring red color. Earlier in the same conference someone asked if we could move the whole thing outside. But as it was being simultaneously translated into Italian, the interpreters needed the sound equipment and the interpreters booth that was inside.

    there are no viable political economic systems

      @televikkuntdaowuxing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Completely. The problem began when "ecology" and "economy" got mixed up and merged into one another. Or, more specifically, "economic-system" passed as an understanding of "eco-system"

    • @televikkuntdaowuxing
      @televikkuntdaowuxing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the primary reason the only viable system is a world without money. A good introduction to "Why communism?"

    I agree with Mark’s analysis completely but you have to see that at least in part, a lot of the bureaucracy he criticises was put in place to try to curb professionals who were abusing their power, to make them more accountable.
