This is the second time I have watched this video. I would love to visit that farm and all those beautiful horses. I love horses. I rode them as a kid on the farm and loved it. I grew up in the Roy Rogers and Dale Evens days. Now at 78, I still feel like a kid inside at times when watching those beautiful horses. Wow!!!!!!
Thank you Ms. Dell and Staff for taking exceptional care of those magnificent creatures. It makes me happy that they can live out the rest of their days there if not adopted. All of these magnificent Creatures deserve an excellent life despite age.
Thank god they don't send horses abroad anymore! The Ferdinand horrific event still make me cry. If anything good came out of it, it was Ferdinand Clause and the Old Friend retirement Farm for older horses to enjoy the rest of their days 😢😢
Beautiful place and a beautiful presentation. Three of the greatest days of my life were the days i visited Claiborne Farm years ago. The first visit came with my family back in the sixties. I saw Bold Ruler and Round Table that day. The next time i visited i got to see and pet Secretariat. Last time i visited with and got to pet the immortal Mr.Prospector. Well, guess that covers some ground, doesn't it. Hope to go back again someday before i leave this world. Lord willing.
@@jm1657 The way they buried her originally, wrapped like a mummy, I thought they might eventually relocate her some day, and they wanted her intact... like Man O' War. It's so very sad to think about but I remember when she was buried at Belmont in '75. I'm glad she finally went home. Thank you.
@@NalaRichenbach Ruffian’s death is still so devastating. If I’m not mistaken, Claiborne has buried her body intact. They carried over her flat & detailed gravestone and have also added their usual simple vertical headstone that bears her name & just the years of Birth & Death. It’s on my bucket list to visit Claiborne & particularly pay my respects to her, Secretariat & Riva Ridge.
This film is pure art with gorgeous horses. I was with a horse trainer at the Jr Leagie Horse Show and I am still kicking myself that I didn't get out and visit Claiborne and see Secretariat. That was in the late 1970s so he would have been there.

We loved driving by the farms and seeing the mares and foals in the fields. We like to go to Keeneland. Before she left KY, we did a horse farm tour. Got to go to the Godolphin mare barn. I have a prominent sire lins in American 2000 print hanging in my office.
My brother and I came to see Secretariat in 1972. One of the most exciting time of my life. When we got to Paris Ky. however we discovered the farm was not receiving any visitors as someone or someone(s) had thrown something at the horses. We stopped at a dairy queen to get directions and the owner was the one that told us about the farm being closed to visitors. He was interested in my brother's truck and after a while he made a phone call to the farm and then he told us we could go to the farm which was the start of making my dream come true. The farm manager at the time took us to all the stalls and paddocks. He than brought Secretariat out and we took pictures of him and us and just loved on him. The farm manager ran his hand through his mane and came up with some hairs and gave us the hair. A gift that even now makes me very happy. We were invited back the following year to view his first crop of foals as well. The staff were so kind and through. Many blessings to all the staff there.
I was there on July 31, 1989, shortly after my brother passed away, so I almost didn't make it there. However, I did, and I got to see Mr. Prospector, Danzig, Forty Niner, Devils Bag, Ogygian, Nijinsky II, Private Account, Ack Ack, Ferdinand, and above all, Secretariat. I got to pet him and received a lock of his mane as a souvenir, which I still have wrapped in the butcher paper that groom Bobby Anderson gave me. About nine weeks after my visit, Secretariat died. Memories of that visit have always been emotional with me.
@@tomcarter9677Secretariat’s grandfathers are both nearby, too: Princequillo & Nasrullah. They rest next to each other. It’s believed that Secretariat inherited the large heart gene from maternal grandad Princequillo.

From foal to grave site I've experienced the whole gambit. This is a beautiful film. I remember taking brood mares down to 1 of the farms. We were lucky to have private access to the farm. And several others. Heaven without horses will be empty. I hope I I reunite with mine. Then life is complete
Just a simple thing like a driver pulling his parking brake so he could take his foot off the brake pedal caused this. Scary how easy a horse can get hurt/killed or a human the same.
I worked with thoroughbred broodmares for 18 years and I really love the old gals. Thanks for the tour and for taking care of the equines that take care of you.
I'd love to see a proper documentary on Mr. Prospector. An update about his son's and daughters and their babies. So many stakes winners and "Superhorses" came from him or his progeny.
This is a lovely stress reducing video. I have a sense of, intellectually and not by physical experience, the work you and your farm do day in and day out. What I love the most is how you provide a good life for your mares and stallions. I like how you're the right farm for owners who want to limit their booking for the quality life of the stallion, and the equivalent for your mares. ❤️
I wish Claiborne would make a Mr. Prospector in depth documentary about he and his progeny. At least update his wiki page. He surely deserves it. So many superhorses were born from his bloodline here in the States and across the pond.

Secretariat was conceived at clairborne but was born and raised on his Owner Family Farm in Virginia.

Ruffian is now buried in Marchmont Cemetery (relocated from Belmont Park in Aug. 2023). I hope to visit her someday.

One of the requirements for Mac to stand Runhappy there was he had to go to stall 1. The original Claiborne was in Virginia.
