SCV snares at it again, hacking on a road barricade while their drums are being tuned. Pretty sure this is their feature?

BD drumline playing a chunk of music in the lot at Walnut. The fast roll in the end was giving them some trouble for a couple reps, but it cleaned up really nicely by the last one.

Blue Devils drumline playing through their opener in Walnut, CA. As for the solo section, sorry, but Scott Johnson happened to walk right in front of all the guys when they played, so I didn't get clear shots of those.

Oxnard High School drumline playing through their 2010 closer at ADLA Prelims in San Marcos. We didn't make finals, but we did get the honor of High Tenors in Scholastic B. =D I only had one clip of this, which happened to be the dirtier run. There were some breaks, so I did my best to edit them together for the best possible clip. Any stupid comments will just be deleted.

RIP Tom Float 🙏
In 1993-1994 season UCLA Football was in the New Years Day Rose Bowl championship Game. I marched that year on the UCLA Drum line. As a special surprise treat they brought in Tom Float - to work with our Drum line. I remember everyone was shocked, excited, and amazed that he was there. Most of the line knew who he was and his reputation. I was a noob, and didn’t understand what all the hype was about. I can’t describe it. It was like royalty was visiting our program. He was definitely a smooth operator- he was a real cool guy and he connected with the group very well. Amazing instructor. Very chill. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until afterwards that I was filled in about who he was and what he was known for. The Deep dive into DCI and Tom began. It was absolutely a special treat to have him with us. He totally fired everyone up!
Tom Float passed away this week. Too soon, very sad.
Yep...and damn it.
Marched under Tom in 1980- snare line- Spirit of Atlanta. Learned a lot that summer and prep for the summer. Tied for the Sanford Award that year with Bridgemen. Tom was funny at times and intense when required. He knew how to release the tension of competing at such a high level. He truly enjoyed what he was doing and it was an honor to learn from one of the best in D.C.I. at the time. Tom Float and Jim Ott (horn instructor) were definitely two of the best in D.C.I. at the time and I was blessed to march during that era. Thanks Tom for your sense of humor and for your expertise in everything you did for us.
I have not seen the trash can trio around the park in a long time. I loved when they would come out it was entertaining. When was the last time they played?
Damn
HAHAHA!!! Tom Float was teaching the drumline at UNT when I was in the Green Brigade. Funny dude. Freaking amazing player and teacher...
I wish someone would walk up, open a trash can lid and throw some trash in It then walk off lol
Anyone who knew Tom, knew he had a specific handshake only he did. Anyone want to guess. I saw him at Disney and went up a shook his hand. I did the "Tom Float hand-shake" and he quickly looked at me skeptically. He said "Do I know you?"
Oh my gawd, Im from a 6a marching band, but this 1a, is the best I've ever seen, great trumpet, and tuba solos, And good job!!
Jayden Edwards You should check out previous shows. 2005 is my favorite . m.th-cam.com/video/bOeI9Fw6cOk/w-d-xo.html
Awh man what to say about Mr float hmmm. chill laid back learch distant cousin naturally funny guy. learned much from Thomas float growing up first listen to old DCI recording shows as a kid. who would ever imagine I would have the opportunity to work with both Katherine and top 20 all time fav mentor drum duo. miss them both. great memories.
it me in the red sweatshirt
Bolllyyyywooooddddd!
well, it is tom float afyer a;;
It's like how a writer writes a "book." Same thing goes with music, the writer wrote the "book."
I have to say, I was skeptic before you guys started playing because of just having two snares. I figured that a five-man bass line and two tenors would over power you two, even though snares have a higher frequency than basses or tenors. All in all, I was surprised.
Thanks man!
Book just refers to show music. I don't really know where it came from, but it's a generally universally recognized term in the marching percussion world.
This might be a dumb question but what does "book" mean
Im guessing your disappointed
PETER SAPADIN. He wrote the book at Gold
Nahh the whole corps switched to jupiter horns and mapex drums
this opener has been changed soo much over the season! xD its never the same in every regional! just say cuz i was there.
@GP3PocketSnare you mean open class
Center snare is a girl. Hell yeah!!! :)
I think the snare tech is Joe Hobbs.
Sounds better on that than the snares itself.
its cheaper
Battery Coordinator is Shane Gwaltney.
beginning of the season they had 9, then chris bright dropped and joey stabb filled his spot. steven drummer filled joey stabb's b corps spot after initially planning not to march.
you want the music?
But i don't see any corps with tama, i don't believe but if so its sounds good and our school uses dynasty, and they sound good when you know what you doing while tuning and playing with them. So yea i love all marching percussion as long they sound good you know what i mean? lol
People argue that Dynasty drums are shit, others think Pearl is the best by far. I even personally think that Yamaha snares are seriously lacking in fullness. I think any brand of drums can sound good, though. I honestly think Mapex is on par with just about everything else. Really curious to see where Tama will fall in all that, though.
The academy has been using mapex for a long time now..
This book might be getting the hose soon. Lots of errors, even for heading into july. It's super ambitious anyway.
Yes. Someone that actually says percussion and not drums. Thank you.
Yesss
i know they do but theres some coprs that i dont feel right using them but as long they play lean beats lol
They sound really good, though. I feel like Mapex is probably cutting really good deals to all these corps, too.
dude what is up with every body switching to mapex i mean its heavy
Yes, you do.
I thought they had only 8 snares. There's 9 here?
whooaaa they are not with dynasty this year?
Fixed. Thanks!
It had some cool stuff, but I just couldn't keep up with it. Really well-executed as always, but there were just way too many things going on with it.
The show is based on the Dada movement, which was an artistic movement apparently based on collage, montage, etc. It makes more sense knowing that, but the show as a whole is pretty scatter-brained.
the show is very abstract this year
At Riverside? I was sitting in the blast zone on the track; BD was just about as clean as Vanguard. I agree, though - I'd really like to see Vanguard take percussion this year.
