Southern Nymphing | Wild & Scenic Western North Carolina | Fly Fishing Roadtrip
The roadtrip searching for southern trout continues! Blake and I got up and hit the water early, but the fly fishing was tough! As the day progressed the fly fishing got much better and we ended up with a heck of a good day on the water. #flyfishing #browntrout #euronymphing #troutfishing

Fly Fishing Perfect Trout Water! | A Fly Fishing Roadtrip!

Some would say the perfect trout water is a limestone stream, full of nutrients, bugs and goodies that the trout just love. Others would says it’s a cold tailwater cold and refreshing like a rocky mountain stream all year long. But the truth is …. perfect trout water is a combination of both. And for that type of water we loaded up the RAV 2 and headed south. From the Keystone state to the Wild...

Loved the video, was this recent (post Helene?)
Thanks and Thanks for watching! This was in early June...so pre Helene. Tightlines
Another good one boys!! Way to go!
Thanks James! It was a fun trip! We should do a virtual lunch with you and Ralph sometime in the next month and catch up. Tightlines!
Always enjoy your videos look me up next time you’re in the area your fishing my home water there
Thanks for the kind words and the invitation! Some fun fishing down in WNC. Tightlines!
Love your videos. What does your euro leader consist of, and typically how much of it is outside of the rod's tip? I've been using a 6lb maxima chameleon leader and I'm having issues casting it with say 15' or more of leader outside the rod's tip.
I'm actually using maybe 30ft -50ft of 6lb down to the sighter. Then I run tippet after that. So basically the main line I'm fishing with is also my leader. My rod is a 11ft 2wt...so that extra length is an advantage with my casting distance. The amount outside my rod just depends on how far I need to cast, but 15 ft or so I don't think is an issue for me. Do u water load it when u cast? Meaning use the tension of the line in the water downstream to help u cast up stream? Tightlines!
@@WildBlueDiscovery Thank you for the reply. Water load casts no problem, over head is where I have an issue. My rod is a 10' 2wt.
@@michaelcapurso ...ok...yeah...real lite line is going to be harder to overhead cast. Especially with light nymphs. It can be done....and it is needed sometime, but weight does help.
Haha! Thank you, Mr. Tree! Fun video, Craig. Love that area of NC!
It is a neat area! That was a crazy hook up! Lol. Tightlines my friend!
I should clarify that the fly I’m referring to is the Black Plague. I’ve had no success finding any patterns. Thanks!
Thanks for watching! You won't find that pattern for sale . DM me on Instagram and I will send u Pic of it. My friend ties that for me and he bought it from Poland I believe. Tightlines!
I always look forward to your informative videos. I’m interested in learning more about the fly pattern that you’re using and how to tie it.
Another awesome video thanks for sharing

Thx James!
My wife and I were down there for 8 days in the spring and had a great time fly fishing.
A neat area for sure! Thx for watching! Tightlines!
Love the videos. Of curiosity, what's your take on Maine vs PA for fly fishing?
PA has great Wild Browns and solid brook Trout streams while Maine shines with the opportunity for bigger Brook Trout and landlocked salmon. I really enjoyed the landlocked salmon. They were a blast to catch. The mosquitoes are worse in Maine!!!! Lol. Tightlines!
Sad this area will never be the same after Helena .😢pray for us western Carolinians y’all
The amount of rain was crazy! Blake was checking cfs stats online and wow..some crazy stats. Have you seen any pics from the Nantahala area? 🙏🙏🙏 for western NC!! Tightlines
Nice job, thanks for sharing. How do you like the Reaver? I've heard they are soft for the rated weight, have you compared them to other nymphing rods?
I bought my Reaver from a guide buddy. It has great sensitivity with the carbon handle. He has fished a lot of high end rods and really likes the Reaver. I got to fish with the Reaver before I bought it, and I really liked it. I have landed some big Trout with this 2 wt. I have not fished with alot of high end rods. Blake has the helios and it's good also. At the end of the day, presentation is king not the rod. Tightlines!
@@WildBlueDiscovery Thank you, it's one of the rods i'm looking at.
Great video mate
...Thx for watching! I appreciate the kind words! Hopefully things are well for you in Argentina! Tightlines!

Gotta love the Jack, Craig! Congrats on your trip.
Thanks my friend ! First time using it! Tightlines!
Great job picking out that intro music. Rock Creek is the best fishing creek in Western Montana and totally not a blown-out Hollywood scene, with a human centipede of fishermen the second the skwallas start to hatch. Stay away from Ovando, the upper Clark Fork, and the Little and North Fork of the Blackfoot though. No fish there, no sir, they all just swim over to Rock Creek.
Thx for watching. Tightlines
Always good time floating a river. But this is why I don’t throw nymphs. 😂
Thx for watching! Tightlines!
Do you carry any protection when you are in the woods? Ever seen any bears?

Dude I wanna fish this scenery so bad! How come you drop the name of other streams on your channel but not this one? Isn’t it the Little J? Going up this weekend from Cleveland, would LOVE to know what river this is. I’ll be staying in Rothrock. Love your content man

Come visit the legendary AuSable in Michigan. Beautiful river with lots of significance to the sport. Much unlike the Adirondack AuSable with noticeably different topography. Worth the trip if nothing more than its trout fishing history that hasn’t changed much in over 100 years. Hey, it’s got a fly only section, you can see where Trout Unlimited was started, there is a section called the Holy Waters, and it’s cedar-lined beauty is uniquely amazing. Start in Grayling, MI, and work downstream for miles, and miles.
Thanks for the input! I have been thru Grayling but did not fly fish the AuSable. I do enjoy checking out new water! Tightlines!
Great day for you! Kah-tah-dyn please and tho the salmon are squirrelly, please don't suspend them by your leader
Thx for watching. My brain just struggles to remember how to say it. Tightlines

hey great video from potter. i have a lodge up there and fish all over god's country. there are plenty of area's to find wild browns and native brookies up there. you guys do a great job exploring some of those area's. might run into you sometime up there. if you are ever looking for a place to stay you can contact me. send a reply and i can give you info

Nice video, looked like a great day on the water! I’ve ran into Jim a few times on the water for steelhead, very knowledgeable and has a true passion for fishing. Great collaboration.
Thanks 👍 Tightlines!!
Great fishing and even better company! Thanks for a great day of fishing, chatting, and teaching James!
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Anytime !! We'll have to do it again.
I'd suggest hiring a guide that is local to the water you want to fish. They'll know the water better than someone that lives three hours away and they all have a list of various accommodations (hotels, cabins, houses, etc.). You'll save money, learn more, and catch more fish. Central PA is full of weekened "guides" from Western PA. Hire someone with local experience. The red flag is when they give you a list of 15 streams they guide on... Or if they're wearing a GoPro. Tight lines!
I'm actually friends with multiple guides, and really don't have a need for a guide in Central PA. . Jim is actually a friend of mine and this was a collaboration fun day. Thanks for watching! Tightlines!
Hello Aaron, I don't know you and you don't know me. I hope what ever it is in life that is troubling you, you find another way to vent your frustrations. Life is short and being angry is no way to go through life. Tight lines!
Craig should learn how to land a fish so you don’t have to walk out into the middle of the stream to land those dinks 😂
@@WildBlueDiscovery Hi Craig. I’m not going to acknowledge your ignorant buddy with a response. I do appreciate your response though. To clarify, the infomercial portion of your video is for a “guide” who lives hours away from the river you were “guided” on. My point is that people watching this should consider hiring a local guide. Would you hire a guy from Pittsburgh to guide you on the Madison? I wouldn’t even hire a guy from Great Falls to guide me on the Madison. If you use Google, check out where they’re based relative to the stream you want to fish. Or call the local fly shop to hire a guide. Do a little research. PAFBC has a website that lists guides by name and county. Unlike places like Montana, in PA all that you need is insurance, CPR training, and 100 bucks to be a licensed guide. No experience is necessary. Not all are alike. Montana requires you to work under an Outfitter, so there’s a way better chance your guide will be knowledgeable. They want you to come back. The state has a vested interest. There’s been a surge of “guides” on the streams and rivers of Central PA that are from Western PA. They stick out like sore thumbs because they don’t know the water well, they back their boat trailers over the banks rather than carrying their boats up and down the banks and are draped in GoPros for “content creating”. Again, I appreciate your response and it looks like you had a fun day. It’s just unfortunate you’re promoting a guide that’s not local and doesn’t know the water well. Our local guides don’t guide anywhere else. There’s no need to drive 3 hours away from Central PA.
@@TMucc216 ..who me? lol I certainly have area's for improvement. Just ask my son! Tightlines
Hey Craig! What an excellent day! Great way to hit that water. Thanks for sharing
