This is a Ford 351W that is .060 over with a Comp Cams XR282 with about 10.8:1 compression ratio. It doesn’t like to idle below about 800 rpm.

What does Fe stand for
I ordered hooker headers, this video didn't help me, i wanted to hear the truck o.. well larry the cable guy rocks
Glad I could waste some of your time, I guess. I've found that most folks can't tell the difference between headers and manifolds. Anywho...These headers aren't even on the truck anymore. The engine developed a rock knock in less than 50 miles. Paid good money for a shortblock from Chevrolet performance. Larry The Cable Guys is cool...I guess I made you think of him?
THANK YOU SO MUCH. A TOTALLY AWSOME REBUILD!!!!
@@johnbehneman1546 You’re welcome!
Working on mine today. Thank you
Good stuff I hope it works out well for you!
Did you ever get it straight only video of that cam
The saga of this stupid engine. It ran good for a while and then developed a light rod knock. I bought the shortblock from Summit (Chevrolet Performance) thinking I’d save time and money in the long run. I will eventually disassemble, clean, and throw in some cheap parts in it. I ended up picking up a motorhome 454 that had 62k on it. It runs great and it loves gas.
Do you have part numbers on the headers or glass packs by chance?
I don't. When I ordered the headers I used the shop by vehicle function on Summit Racing and I ordered the 24" Thrush glasspacks off the Summit website as well.
@@Clydes.Shop78 thanks for the response!
What is your rods and main bearing clearance and oil pressure hot idle at what RPMs I need to know because I have the similar setup my pressure is low for some reason
This was a Chevrolet Performance shortblock. I trusted Chevrolet to have it all set up correctly...pretty sure it has a rod knock now. I've always had good oil pressure. Probably less than 50 miles...very disappointed.
The 1477 kit does not come with new floats?
I don’t remember, but it doesn’t seem like it has them. I have one in the shop that I will check.
This is seriously the greatest sounding FE I have heard in a while. Kick butt. Would love this combo when I get my 445 FE stroker built.😎🤘
Are you the one that rebuilt it or a shop cause i have one that's gone need some work
I rebuilt the engine. It’s not difficult. Make your local Cat dealer print of the shop instructions for you, and take your time. Really dealing with the local Cat place was the worst part. They didn’t seem to want to deal with an individual.
I’m getting ready to clean same carb. Very helpful thank!
Do it! It’s not too difficult.
Sounds good!!
Thanks! I did a cam swap and wiped a lobe...Lame. This engine is now in my engine room with the heads off. I'll put a new set of bearings and it will be good as new. However, I have swapped the engine to a 351W. Havent fired it yet...in the middle of a rewire.
What size and length glass packs are they?
2.5 in and I think they are 24ish long. Can’t remember at the moment.
Are you going to try for 500 subs this year for the #NoNameNationals?
Probably not. I’ve got too much going on right now.
Just got me a pair of these a few days ago and they are pretty comfortable right out of the box. They do need a little bit more breaking in but I can tell they are going to be as comfortable as my wedge sole Thorogood’s. I did have to go a half size up on these because they are shorter than most Thorogood boots that I’ve worn but other than that they are great so far.
Hope they work out for you too! The black outsole feels a bit firmer than the traditional white, but I ain’t got no sciences to back that up.
@@Clydes.Shop78 Thanks Man! I have a feeling I’m going to like these boots as much as my old ones. I know what you mean about the outsole, it does seem firmer than the ones on the wedge sole boots.
Love these boots! I've had mine for over a year and they still look great and are super comfortable. Granted, I'm not our working in the oil field so they don't get beat up. I'll probably need a resole next year, but shouldn't have a problem getting 5-7 years out of the pair. I'd like to suggest a coating of Obenauf's leather oil which will help the break in for sure. These boots are currently being clearanced at Midwest boots for $179 with free shipping. If you spend over $250 and use the code Fall45 you will get another $45 off. For that price I bought two extra pair and plan on not having to buy boots for quite a long time.
The soles seems to wear fairly fast, but the leather is very durable. If you can get them for $179…scoop them up.
I've had the previous model of emperor series, the one with the duel density outsoles. 5 years and running strong, I plan on getting a new pair.
How’s the sizing on these? One size or half a size big?
Somewhere between true and a half size. With the extra size of the toe box it is hard to tell. Had I bought these in a store, I would have tried a half size down before I left.
sheep feet insoles
I got this same came in my 350.....does it at least lope when in gear??
I wouldn’t call it a lope, but you can tell it’s not stock…. Seems to make decent power too.
Any future videos of it in gear or lower idle rpm?

Oh wow it's about time they made a roomy boot I had issues with the steel cap cutting in my feet on them and red wings
The tox box has plenty of room. I've actually had a trouble with the leather portion behind the steel toe. It tends to mash down on top of my foot and toes when it bends. Its hard to explain, but I have shifted away from these boots. Too bad since they are $250.
@@Clydes.Shop78 what boots do you have now if you have shifted away from these ?
@@jordanedwards3066 Well, unfortunately I have shift back to a pair of Thorogood slip on I bought back in 2017... I still wear these boot from time to time about once every two weeks. Unfortunately, I haven't found the perfect boot yet!
@@Clydes.Shop78 would you recommend them like for walking on concrete all day ?

I’m buying them but when the down pipe for my truck
Thanks for the video! I’m putting the same set up In my car and I don’t know what to expect. How do you like it?
I like it so far. The idle is not too rough and it seems to make good power even just off idle. It seems to make decent vacuum too. Haven’t checked that yet though.
Did you reuse your stock rocker arms? I’m running into an issue with my self aligning roller rockers hitting the spring retainer.
@@Chevelle65x I actually bought a new set of Chevrolet Performance self aligning rockers. I haven’t noticed an issue with them contacting the retainer. What retainers are you using?
I’m using the springs and retainers the Howard cams tech suggested: 98213-K12. I’m going to try switching the retainers back to the ones that came on the Summit Vortec Heads. Thank you for the reply!

I watched this on my phone but it didn't do it justice. I watched it again using my surround sound, YES, the classic glasspack sound comes alive! Thumbs up.👍
It’s surprisingly loud in the shop. Outside it’s not so bad, but it does sound good.
Dang, I watched both videos and we don't get to hear the finished product 😕.
Dude... I know! I fired it up for sound and I had a lifter collapse. So it has taken a few weeks for me to get it up and going... But I have two videos with the sound. Look for the latest video and the sneak peak.
I'm combining both videos and adding a sound clip. I should have fixed this a week ago!

Great basic tech! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! I really appreciate it.
Pretty cool stuff man
Thanks! The bad part about this is that as soon as I buttoned everything up to get a clip of how she sounded…well a lifter collapsed…on start up. Soooooo, I’d suggest avoiding any exhausts now since that happened. It may be hard to believe kinda like how a bat caused people to lose their minds for two years, but that is science and we all know that you cant argue with it.
Cool stuff man! Uppy Downy lololololol
You know, I can verify 100% that they do that when it’s running, but based on observations from when the top is off I thought it was a good assumption!
BUY AMERICAN , BESIDES PROTECTING OUR COUNTRY, IT'S THE MOST PATRIOTIC THING YOU CAN DO. 🇺🇸
I agree and when I can I buy US made goods. The problem we have is that a large portion of USA made goods are actually assembled in the US with globally sourced components. So Made in USA is a bit of a misnomer in some cases. These boots are not immune to that.
What oil pump did you use
I used a Melling Standard Volume High Pressure Pump. I don’t remember the Part Number.
I really like Thorogood boots. Not crazy about their insoles though. I change them out pretty quick.
I can understand that. This particular insole almost feels like it’s too small for the boot.
What insoles do you use?
I’m going to be running something very similar on my nonamenationals car 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Sweet! At my age I prefer sound quality over sound quantity. I’m sure the 521 inches will sound awesome. If you get the right amount of durations, lifts, and LSAs pretty much anything sounds good! I’ve got a .060 over 351W with a fairly grumpy roller that will sound pretty nasty here in the near future.

How many vehicles do you have that you’re working on? Also any plans to restore that old Mack?
Robert Broomfield, I have just shy of a million vehicles. I’d love to fix up that old Mack. It was my dad’s truck.
Do the heels hurt your lower back on pavement I wear wedge soles at work for 5 to 8 hour days I like boots even tho I’m just a cart pusher
These boots have not made my back hurt. I moved from an worn pair of Thorogoods that did make my back hurt, but since then no issues. Having said that, the soles seem a bit firmer than I would like for a boot that lives on concrete. I’m on different terrain all day. It’s an expensive gamble, but I’d probably look for a Durashock type of sole.
