Sportster Main shaft Nut Removal
Removal of the Main Nut to change the pully for Belt to Chain conversion on 2001 Sportster. Should be the same process for most Harleys-Davidson motorcycles.

Sportster Oil Pump Removal
มุมมอง 9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Full removal of 2001 Sportster Oil Pump Make sure to remove and replace the cam cover gasket also! I am replacing the oil pump before I do many upgrades and changes to this motorcycle only as an insurance, so I don't have any worries. It has 44k miles and is over 20 years old.
Hahaha how was it putting that cam cover back on 😂
How to you prime the oil pump??
for the mates who watch this video, never take off cam cover without releasing tension from cams - which means you should remove rocker boxes first.
This
💩my line to my pump split so i d
Does anybody know where id find specific parts for the pawl assembly?
All on parts giant I found the shifter pawl at my local Harley just by chance but everything else off parts giant
Do you know if the shaft needs replaced if my 1st gear is slipping into neutral? I adjusted the internal clutch and it works but after a while it starts slipping again. I am told it has something to do with the shift shaft or shifter dog but not too sure where to go from there.
Sounds like it’s you shifter detent clip they’re
AWESOME
I'm stalling to remove the right cover only replacing the oil hose since the oil drain hose was replaced I noticed the oil vent hose was brittle 2007 HDSPORTSTER 1200 custom, thanks for the video and I subbed on
Why are you replacing the oil pump? Low oil pressure? My oil light came on, I changed the oil and switch, but it’s still flickering
I got around to doing this because my shift shaft was bent and that little Detent plate clip blasted off and shot all over the primary. I replaced the shift shaft assembly and even that tiny spring. Put it all back together and I got a ton of play in my shifter, like the shaft spins wayyyy too much. Shifts fine but just a lot of play. Any idea what I fkd up??
Very clear video, I am building a sort of board tracker out of my 87 Sporty. Relocating and changing the oil tank. So I wondered if I could replace the oil lines without taking that cover off. It seems that it has to come off right ?
My 01 buell all of that os together!
How did you pull that without the bearing in the back!
Great video, very clear and to the point. Mine is not shifting into 5th and hope its the shift shaft or pawl adjustment and not messed up shift forks or drum.
If you remove primary cover and stator and clutch basket you should be able to shift through the gears with the drum if you can’t rotate shaft while you do so and if still then I deff have burrs in the drum and possible shavings between the snake groves the kind slide in and check those on N.A. turn them upside down and reuse .
Why did you take the cam cover off, that was a waste of time.
That's what I'm wondering
@@chadmulligan5629 Why would the cam gear fall out replacing the oil pump if the cover is on it has no where to go, do whatever you want but there is absolutely no need to pull the cam cover off to replace the oil pump, because to take the cam cover off you need to pull the rocker box off as well, the valve spring tension will never allow you to put the cover back on.
@@michaelbartels1940 I get what you mean now. Who knows maybe he was checking the drive gear also
I tried and my pump do not go out because os the frame ...
There is an area in the frame that is cut out to be able to tilt the bottom of the oil pump towards you to remove it. Take a look at the 13:30 minute mark of the video
Will the new oil pump stop the oil from puking out into the air cleaner? 🤔
I’m sorry to say no it will not. The most common reason is you have too much engine oil. This can happen for a couple different reasons and this causes the extra oil to recirculate through the air filter with should go back into the engine to be burnt off but usually collects and drips down the side of the bike. I will try to make a video explaining this in more detail.
great video very thorough looking forward to your next video 👍
Thank You Sir. I tried to make is comprehensive enough to understand
great video as i have a 1988 sportster 1200 ,that i am hard tailing. i just subbed 👍
Thank You Sir. I hope to build a hard tail one day. I have a large box of parts/ upgrades I have planned for this Sportster.
