I saw Molly Malone’s statue in Dublin last week and we (my tour group and guide) had to sing this song at her monument. The tour guide sang the verses, while we (my tour group and myself) sang the chorus.

I was reintroduced to this song after a long time through a basic music book for trombone. I only picked up playing trombone after not playing for 50+ years. I had to hear the song as it is song to get the feel of the melody right. This version by the Dubliners is music to my ears.
Just found myself singing this wandering around the kitchen. As you do and had to look it up to remind myself that I learned to do school. Many years ago in Nottinghamshire in England when I was about five!5 50 yrs later, i still know the words!😊 Shame I can't remember now. Why I went into the next room!!😂😊
When my grandfather was young and on his way to Holland after the collapse of the Dutch indies and ww2 japanese camp imprisonment this was the first song he heard on the radio. RIP my beloved grandpa 28-12-2019 i still think of you
Give me some GREAT Jim Reeves anytime! I was a major fan as a child. The sound quality is what it was back then. The GREAT Jim Reeves was impeccable in vocals & I LOVE his voice. The 1st '45' I bought was Jim Reeves, with my babysitting money. I got paid a whopping .25¢ an hour, so it took a while to save up. It was a song about "Mary Merry me". The flip side was about the "Green Beret",,,,if I remember correctly. 66 years & still love Jim Reeves!
This song and the Clementine song made it to Africa too. We used to sing them during music lessons in primary school and they were so sad...so emotive. Never forgot them.
So true. I often saw Molly's sad ghost wheeling her barrow in my mind. Saw the unfairness of Clementine's demise and felt the betrayal when soon enough her young sister took over her love. Sad ..
Sometimes I take a great notion to jump in the river and drown. Can't sing this to children anymore, might take this literally and try it. Great memories of this song
From Scotland, my grandad used to sing this. I miss him😢❤

This song made it to sub Saharan Africa. Accra, Ghana to be specific. Surely! Music is a universal language.
I'm glad you like it. Check out Sinead O Connors version if you are curious

They originated from very rough times in a hard period in history. Music is so emotive and beautiful- it makes you feel their sorrow indeed

Mom used to sing this song to me. I’m American, but apparently this song made it to The U.S. intact through my heritage. Thank you for this post.
My mother too and I am French
I learned it in elementary school music class in Pennsylvania! Maybe not the final verse though.
My mom sang it to me too. <3
I learned this song in Jamaica over 40 years ago
I love when Americans who never stepped foot in Ireland claim to be Irish. God
