What size torch tip and handle was with the b-tank and acetylene setup, Jeff? Thanks
The Presto-lite torch comes with 3 or 4 tips. I usually use the #3 tip for almost all of my work. Hope that helps!
Absolutely beautiful work!!!
Thank you!
Thank you for this video! Doyou have one to show the tanks for your last two torches?
I don't but if you want to email me at artistjeff54@gmail I'll take a picture and send it to you.
Thanks for the tip!
You're welcome. Hope it helps.
Thanks for the tip!
Inspiring! I have the first turquoise and sterling ring I ever made too :) I wear it everyday. Thanks for sharing
Good for you. I sold the first ring I made cuz a cute girl offered me $15 for it. I wish I'd kept it!
Very clever!
Thank you! Best video I’ve seen comparing torches.
You're welcome! Glad you liked it.
Thank you, as always, @Jeff. So, where can I find you in Tucson? 👩🏼🎨🌵🔨
I won't be in Tucson this year. Sorry
Question. I understand that annealing before squishing is required. Will the bangle start to work harden when you polish before squishing?
Polishing shouldn't work-harden the metal at all.
Love that Ric-Rac design on that bangle! ❤
I really enjoy watching your channel. I am 56 now , lol. But when I attended HS many moons ago we had a jewelry making studio where I learned how to set stones, solder , enamel etc This is where my love for jewelry making and designing began! Then went on to floral design, back to jewelry design using seed beads and wire work, anyway my real love is what you do but I forgot how to do it all. Do you teach online?
I have several instructional videos on my website artistjefffulkerson.com Hope this helps
Thank you.
Are you self taught? How Did you learn?😊
Mostly self-taught. Read a book, then years later took some classes from some native artists. @@jullesteach
Would love some tutorials
I have lots on my site artistjefffulkerson.com
So many great techniques. The castellations I just love and that pattern peeking through on the shank❤Beautiful and thank you!
Thank you for your kind words. Glad you like it!
So let's get started but on my website, forget this BS.
This is just a promo video for the full 'How-To' video available on my site. I'm sorry you think it's BS. I've always found that taking classes, either in person or by video is a great way to increase knowledge. If you want free, remember, you get what you pay for.
Great video on the different torches used in jewelry making, thanks for the best info!
Hope it helps.
Can you do cuffs with any of the butane torches?
Its all about heat and volume - so a larger torch might work. It depends on what you're soldering to what. I can't really say without a lot more info. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
How big of a silver ball could you make? quarter inch?
Ingenious! Would sterling silver for the main bangle work as well?
Yes! I call the main bracelet the bangle and the small ones spinners. I've made both out of sterling, copper and brass, although the brass is hard to bend for the bangle.
Wow! That’s great! Thank you so much!
Mozez - I don't know anything about the European hoses, etc. so I can't answer that but my guess would be they are not compatible. The disposable bottles just have an off/om valve and cannot be used with tanks and vis-versa. Hope this helps.
whats that big block ?
that's a charcoal block, which you can get at your favorite jewelry supplier. They are the best for balling up metal
Very informative! Thank you. Do you happen to use flashback arrestor on your acetylene tank? Thanks again.
I wanted to make a lot larger conchos then this does the class teach making bigger ones
I use a Potter die that's about 2" across. If you want to hand-form larger conchos, you need a larger die.
Which size and brand metal shear is this?
I LOVE THIS
Thanks!
So helpful, thanks!
Glad it was helpful
Get a Hoke, all others are crap.
Oh wow I just figured that out yesterday, how coincidental is that :)
Good for you! Makes your life sooo much easier, huh?
Great tip! Just what I needed!
Will you be in Tucson this year?
Sadly, no. First time I've missed it in 10 or 12 years.
I just saw this. It was in my spam. As you may have already figured out on your own, no, I won't be in Tucson this year. first time in 10 or 12 years!
Hi Jeff! I see you used 24g, isn't it a bit thin? What would be the thickest you would suggest that we can use with this tool? Thanks!
24 gauge works well because it's easier to form & once you put in the compound curve, even the copper becomes incredibly strong g.
Artist Jeff Fulkerson hi Jeff, but as far as if someone wants a thicker look, how thick can the metal be with your tool?
I bought this 2 years ago and haven't gotten a chance to use it yet... I finally bought a copper spinner bracelet (made with it) from another jeweller in my area 😂. She has a rolling mill so had a cool texture on hers, that I won't be able to get when I finally start making these.
Use a hammer or stamps to get textures. Just have fun with it!
@@artistjefffulkerson4327 I plan on it! Just got my work area put back together after a long time, and am getting excited to make things again.
Thank you so much I must have watched a million videos and urs is the only one that includes this bit!!!
You are so welcome. Glad to help!
That tool is genius! Great video and demo, too.
Thank you . Glad you like it!
Artist Jeff Fulkerson Can you crank it down more to create a bigger flange on the bangle? Or will it tend to split the metal quickly? That can actually be a desirable effect, when done intentionally - and is something I do actually want to do. I can’t afford the giant dapping tools to do it with, though, nor do I have the strength, plus I live in an apartment, so noise is a huge issue. I assume you can also use the tool to make rings, obviously as long as they are bigger than the bolt?
@@wendyannh You can't use the disks to make rings as they are too big. You can crank down the disks until they touch each other. How much flare you get will depend on how wide and how large a bangle you make. typically, the metal only splits at the solder joint and its pretty uncontrollable.
Artist Jeff Fulkerson Thanks for the info! Any chance you will come out with a similar setup for rings? I should be more able to do those with dapping punches, but the noise would still be an issue. I’m always looking for ways around that!
@@wendyannh Kevin Potter made one. It works OK.
Glad I found this. Finding proper tutorials for actual stone inlay is surprisingly difficult. People tend to resort to crushing stones too readily.
Glad to help!
Yay a new video!
Brilliant! Thank you!
Hi Jeff I just took your class last Saturday and I have a couple questions, if you could email me that would be so helpful, emilybyrnes001@gmail.com
♥ .•:*¨¨*:•. ♥ Terrific demonstration, explanation and presentation! ♥ .•:*¨¨*:•. ♥
Hi Jeff! I bought this tool from Halstead a few weeks ago but I somehow managed to get it stuck, and not can’t get the nut to move. Any advice you can offer? Thanks!!
It sounds like you might have stripped the bolt/nut threads. First, to un-stick, you hopefully take a big wrench and a lot of elbow grease and loosen it. Second, if you can't do that, you may have to cut the bolt off. I had a student do this in a class once and all I could do was cut it off. The REAL question is why? Why did this happen. Two theories: You may have worn out the bolt and used it one too many times or you may have tightened it all the way down to where the two disks hit each other and kept trying to tighten to get a little more bend in your bangle. The first problem is easy: when the bolt starts to throw off little bits of metal, buy a new one. They're only about $1. The second problem just takes a little 'feel'. You should never have to exert tremendous pressure turning the nut. When it gets tight, that tells you that's as far as you can go, so stop! Hope this helps. Let me know.
Artist Jeff Fulkerson thank you so much!!!! I will try that tonight when I get home from work.
OMG! I want this tool! I checked and it's very affordable.
Glad you like it. I have a few on my site right now artistjefffulkerson.com/collections/jewelry-tools/products/anticlastic-forming-disks
I know that I already responded to this BUT I always seem to refer back to it because you give such a plain English explanation. Thanks Jeff!
Great content Jeff!! What would be the better torch for melting gold; choosing between a air/acetylen torch (like what you have in the vid) VS a oxy/propane hoke torch? Having trouble trying to fig out the better out of the 2. Thanks in advance
Hi Jeff! When will this tool be available again? Every time I check, it’s not avail.😢
I have some on my site right now. artistjefffulkertson.com
Very helpful thanks a lot
What brand is the littly torch
One VERY IMPORTANT point you failed to say about acetylene is it must be used in an upright position and if for any reason the tank was in a horizontal position like if transporting in a car, IT MUST be placed standing upright for a prescribed length of time! This is so the acetone has an opportunity to get back through the porous element inside the tank EVEN BEFORE the regulator is attached!!! The length of time it takes to settle before usage is determined by the size of the tank in question. ASK the agent at the gas supply store how long to wait for your particular tank. Otherwise they may not offer that info assuming you know what you are doing!!! After all, the end user is ultimately responsible for any damage, injury, or death!
Great comment! I should have mentioned it.
I needed this tip, thanks!
You're welcome. Glad to help.
Jeff, where is your step-by-step tutorial on inlay??
I don't really have a step by step except this video which is available on my site www.artistjefffulkerson.com. Is there something specific you're looking for?
Jeff, it's EIi, we spoke yesterday and I bought the class last night. Part way through!
OMG! It can't be that simple! Thanks, Jeff!
Glad I could help
