Day in the life: Plastic surgery placement with a Liverpool Medic
มุมมอง 1.2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi guys, The last VLOG was a good success and as I have changed my placement rotation, I thought it would be a good idea to upload how plastic surgery rotation is. The surgery I scrubbed in for was a wide excision of a posterior neck melanoma with removal of 2 cervical lymph nodes. The theatre I sadly didn't manage to get into was a DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforator) surgery which invol...

Hi guys LIKE and SUBSCRIBE!!!!!! This video was mainly filmed on my iPhone 11 and audio as well on the iPhone. Let me know what you think of the quality. Another upload, this isn't a typical day in the hospital as I am not always in surgery and usually manage to come home from placement earlier. If you like the VLOG or have any questions about medicine, what it's like being in hospital at this ...

Here are a few things that I did for my A-levels to get A*s in ALL of my science exams (3 A*s in both biology and chemistry), but also 3 tips that I wish I had known going into A-levels. Hi guys welcome back! So you're wanting to find out the best way to earn money when you're a medical student or prospective medic during the summer/holidays? Here is what I do to earn money to fund my holidays, coffee, clothes and uni money etc. I also did this over my GAP YEAR so you can decide whether this is a route you'd like to take. I will run over what a Healthcare Assistant's role cover...
Day in the life of a Medical Student working as a Healthcare Assistant- Addenbrooke's Cambridge
มุมมอง 3.2K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi guys! Good to see you again. I created this video to make people aware of the roles, challenges and work involved as a Healthcare assistant within these pressing times (Coronavirus pandemic. Easter 2020) I might put together a video addressing the positives and negatives about working as a HCA while being a medical student so if that appeals to you, comment below. Also, if you have any other...
Other than research projects and committees is there anything else to boost the cv with? If you dont mind can i ask how many research projects you included in your cv?
A aazing video to help me understand what med school is like in liverpool thanks!!
This is a great video and really helpful thank you! Please can you tell me about the notes and the app you are using in the bottom left corner of the screen on anatomy? 😊
This was a very helpful video, tysm. Could you make a video on landing and applying for research projects? Thanks
Thinking of firming Liverpool! What year did you go on surgery placement in?
Most placement start from 3rd year
What place is Unis of Bristol ?medium? high?
Depends on the metric you’re measuring by
For UCAT I’d say very high
Which unis have medium or medium low workload?😅
Probably shouldn’t be your top priority but most will be similar
I'm in year 12 now and at the start I kept getting c in every subjects, I tried your techniques before the mock and waiting for the results and it went well so I guess they'll be good. Thanks
2 yrs ago so you must be in your 5th years already, keep going bruh
Thank you for this video. Would you say intercalating is much more competitive than applying for undergrad?
It depends on what you’re applying for, it varies massively
I'm aiming for 3A*s and want to completely change my game (from your early grades to those A*s) from this month onwards till mocks - I have module notes aligning with the spec for Chem, but not for Physics or Math - how should I make / use spec for notes in Physics & math? Then I use PMT for practice questions & OCR exam boards' old spec and new spec exam papers. I used to make anki flashcards but stopped as I was making like 300 cards per module for chem, so gave that up. Could you advise if I'm on the right track, and what else I need to change/do? Thank you, love your content!!! :)
Pass papers are your best friend. Try and gain a good understanding of concepts from textbooks, drill questions and then just do all past papers. Multiple times if needs be. All the questions are similar, just slightly different content
Hi James can I send you a message privately please?
I have got 3 9s , 6 8s and 1 7s ( english lang ) do you think it is good grade for medicine and which unis would you recommend i apply ?Does 8s counts as A* ?
Yah you’ll be fine! Unis only look at A levels mainly so just need to do 2 science subjects
Thanks for the amazing video! For your research proposal topic, was this mostly given by your supervisor, or did you come up with your original ideas/plans? I am still in my first year of med school so don't really know much about how to start research, especially for a postgraduate degree and it feels daunting to even apply. Would really appreciate it if you could give me some advice.
For my masters, my supervisor came up with the topic, but he wanted my input as to what I’d like to do. So would recommend investigating the research area and decided your interest area that aligns with there research
Hi James - can you be messaged directly? I'm interested in what you think about the PebblePad eportfolio you have used studying medicine at Liverpool? Does it provide data in a way that makes it easy to you to monitor your own progress and help you quickly decide the aspects of the course that need the most attention? Thanks in advance.
Hi! It’s useful to record histories and requirements but people don’t use it much aside from that. Lectures are usually used
I have applied for a Healthcare Support Worker position at Addenbrookes. Done the interview and got the conditional offer letter now just waiting for the pre-employment ID check. Hopefully, all goes well and I get to start work soon. Very excited.
Very helpful video. Thank you. What are the other mid range unis apart from Liverpool? Which other unis have got higher workload?
Leeds, Manchester, Exeter, UAE. There are also others and lots of new ones recently added!
This is interesting 😃
Thank you
Can you do a video of how to make notes on Anki for medical school. Please and thank you!
My ain't works there her name is lindsey bejarano lol
Aunty
Thank you so much for the information! I'm interested in intercalating, and I was wondering what kind of grades they expect you to achieve? I know they put a "minimum of a 2:1" for postgrad acceptances, but how high should I be aiming for as a medicine undergraduate student? Also, is it possible/ harder to do this as someone who doesn't study in the UK?
I am searching for same situation, also study not in UK but just interested in intercalating.Could you find something?
You should try and be in the higher percentiles but as long as you’re doing wel and hVe some research it’ll be okay
Thanks for the great info! Are you able to make another video focused on your project eg your research proposal, lab work etc?
Do you have an email to ask a few questions regarding applications?
Great video!! 😊
How did You do 6 a levels??
6 individual sciences end of year exams. Bit of click bait but oh wel
thank you

Thank you so much for this detailed video!! I start sixth form in September, and i am terrified! But this video helped me get an insight of what studying will be like, and how i should study too!
This channel is what i looked for all my life ....i am going to year 9 this september and want to pursue medicine from cambridge university ...any tips and advice you would help a lot ....😉🙂
This was really helpful! I'm going into year 12 in September and I'm a little nervous, considering, due to covid and how some of my GCSE content had to be cut from teaching (in order to do exams earlier), the step up from GCSE to A level will be bigger. I wish everyone else doing exams amazing results!
Cheyssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee dinners getting patterned stillll
Great video! Do you know if graduate medical students at Liverpool uni can intercalated too? Good luck with your research 😊
Hi! Yeah, from far as I’m aware, you apply like you would any MPhil so being a grad would probably be a help rather than a hindrance.
@@jamesashton1875 Thanks, good to know it’s a possibility!
Jheeeez
hey im going to the 6th form ur going to lol

Can we be medical student without reading physics in A level.
Of course! As long as there are 2 sciences at a level you can do any science-related degree
Points for getting your bible study in so early in the morning 🔥🔥🔥
Thanku so much for this video! What’s the nightlife like in liverpool? :)
Probably one of the best in the country Ngl
I'm Hca in nursing home i try to apply in hospital but as lack of confidence and English not my first language but i try my best to apply again and but bit scared when we have to explain and give examples but will try best love to join nhs🙏
Hi so I’m very bad at biology application questions and that’s the main question style in the exam so I was wondering if you had any tips to help with that
Memorise markscheme
Make diagrams sometimes just reading is not enough and most importantly go through exam questions on physics and maths tutor plus use your specification it helps u differentiate between what u need to know and what you need to understand
Do u still work here.?
I do in the summer holidays but only occasionally
what accommodation are you in?
At the moment is it a house but I was at Greenbank in first year
@@jamesashton1875 I have put down crown place and melville grrove. I am always late to everyting so wasnt sure of Greenbank. How is the commute. Are the buses reliable. What did you think of Greenbank
@@abhishekthakar5723 hey bro I applied for crown place and Melville grove too. Are you going to the open day in may?
@@sim1520 Bro i changed melville grove after i realised it was a shared bathroom Need my privacy. I chose crown, vine and philharmonic, but people saying crowns oversubscribed so i dont know if ill get it. Open Day was decent. Did you firm liv
Lol SJT gonna be calm bro
Yeah we’ll be alrihjt bro
Very useful video for anyone deciding to choose med school! Lets goooo my g
Cheers bro! Enjoyed this
Yessss nice video mate
Cheers buddy! Enjoyed doing this one actually!
Would you say it is better to get a laptop or iPad for med ?
Definitely laptop because of the multitasks functions are better. The newest iPad comes close but I don’t really think anything will replace your laptop. If you want to take notes in lectures on the actual slides writing things down then get an iPad though
Also quick question, how diverse would you say the cohort is at liverpool?
It’s pretty diverse. We have a lot of international students and those from lost of ethnic background as well as LGBTQ+ groups. This will be apparent at most medical school!
Super helpful video, thanks for this!
