So cool
I want the 1713 seed. I will cross it with my 359x1947 kin. Can we work out a trade? Will send you a return envelope.
shoot me an email at bjamesdawson@gmail.com
My soil test showed 70% organic. Ph 6.5. Have my wife's chicken coup close to wete i plane to grow a couple of kinks next year. Will also add some see weed.
70% is essentially pure compost. You might want to incorporate some native soil. Too much compost can be problematic as it holds so much moisture and can increase disease pressure. Personally, I would aim for something under 20%.
@dawson_acres yes I do add some sand in the planting hole. After that the kin is on its own. I have not had to many issues with wilt. The biggest thing is SVB. Have to spray every Saturday. Tried wrapping the stem but the little things just go up the vine.

I followed all your 2024 process, looking forward for 2025, I make my own but in a very small scale because I have limited space
@@bakevision6503 thanks for following! 2025 should be another fun adventure
It's really cool seeing these goliaths. Wish I had space to grow my own right now, but best of luck selling those seeds! Have you ever tried making a hybrid or cooking with these? One thing I'm really curious about is the eating quality, I wanna make a giant Seminole pumpkin someday.
@@Sgt.Groovy I sell a pumpkin to the same couple every year and they cook with it and love it. I’ve never eaten one myself. Generally, people prefer other varieties for cooking.
@dawson_acres I see. It's why I was thinking of making a hybrid with a Seminole pumpkin. I doubt they'd ever reach such a size, but its the thick flesh I see in those that I desire. Good to know they're not necessarily preferred though, thank you! And good to hear that couple is lovin' the squash haul.
Awesome pumpkin. But why do you cut the leaves off and leave the vines?
@@KingKnightfurry I keep the leaves as long as I can!
@dawson_acres thank you for responding. I was watching the video and it appeared the leaves were separated from the plant first.
@KingKnightfurry he didn't even answer your question 😂, maybe so the plant puts all the nutrients in the pumpkin instead of leaves?
@@CoilCode that's what I was wondering. Thanks
Crazy 🤪 Big! 😅
Oh my gourd! …I’ll see myself out
Excellent illustration of the stem cavity. Thank you. I enjoy all your videos.
@@justtinkering6054 thanks for the support!
I just binge watched all your pumpkin videos today. Congratulations on your 2024 season! What a wild ride the last few years have been.
Could it be that what ever was in that huge load of compost a couple years ago is slowly becoming less of a problem? The year of the compost was terrible. The second year not quite as bad and now the third year just a bit better. Maybe there is something that was brought in with that compost? I believe it was "Gardening With Leon" you tube channel that discussed a type of herbicide that is used on high quality hay fields. The herbicide stays in the hay. The horses pass the herbicide through their system and the herbicide is still intact in the manure. If you compost the manure, the herbicide stays in the compost. You might look into testing your soil for lingering herbicides.
Like a true farmer - always focused on next season! Thank you for the videos and congrats on last year's success.
@@coloradosean2005 thank you!
I've binge watched all your pumpkin videos, in order, to this one so far. Thank you for sharing all the info that you do. You've mentioned that your patch is 30' wide. What is the length? Are both patches the same size?
@@justtinkering6054 thanks! Each pumpkin in patch 2 is 30’ wide by 35’ long. Just over 1k sq/ft. Patch 1 is slightly smaller.
Nice job this season!
Congrats, that was awesome seeing you take second place a Half, Moon Bay awesome accomplishment😅
@@Worldwidegiantgrowers thanks Mark! Pretty awesome experience!
Fantastic result!!! Can't wait to see what you do next year! You're definitely an inspiration for new growers like me.
6 pounds that was some extra cantalouping and dirt on the bottom🥲
Congratulations! Great season. Super jealous of the season you had and the size of this pumpkin. If only Travis would have stayed in Minnesota and brought his pumpkin to Stillwater. 😂 Have definitely enjoyed following your season. Would love to hear what you think you did different this year that led to this pumpkin being so large. Although, I think you mentioned previously that you thought a lot of it was genetics.
@@theturnerranchwi yeah I will do something talking about what I did differently and what I attributed the success to. Thanks for following along!
Congratulations! How far out did you pollinate? Didn’t look real far or maybe the vid doesnt look far?

I called it! Almost 2500lber!! Great job man! I really wish that you had won!!!!
You hooked up water to the vines after you picked it? Wrapped it?
@@frankpumpkin2350 yes I did!
You did amazing I thought you might have had him. I knew it was close but didnt know it was that close. Congrats you went to compete with the best and were essentially equal with the world's top grower. I'll have to watch the video after work, but watched it live online. Congrats amazing achievement to grow one that big and compete on the biggest stage!
Let's go.. 6 pounds i wouldn't sweat it 20000$ in nutrients vs 4k those who know know.
@@frankpumpkin2350 thanks, it’s a hell of a pumpkin for sure.
Legendary. Great job.
Great job at half moon bay! I was watching the stream at work and when I saw your weight I literally stood up and started laughing it was so impressive. Top 10 in the world let’s gooooo!
Nice job. I see you have been busy this year.
Half Moon Bay Good Luck 🍀 have fun
Congrats good 📞 cutting early
Congrats. Awesome job!
I commend you on your wonderful result! That's a beautiful pumpkin with nice shape and colour. I suppose the cracks disqualified it for a Howard Dill Award? Do you know who the grower of the birdbath pumpkin was? It had wonderful, deep orange colour! Making the choice to cut the pumpkin from the vine instead of trying to get a few more pounds and risk a split into the cavity was the right decision. Of course, you already know that. I saw the judge scraping the bottom of your pumpkin with what looked like a spoon; was there a soft spot on the bottom of the fruit? Looking forward to your next video!
@@thegrandadmiral7963 thanks! There was a really good pumpkin that won the Howard Dill. Very deserving. I am not sure who grew the bird bath pumpkin. There was a very small soft spot that i had overlooked. Thankfully small and legal.
