In this video I'd like to show you that handwriting runs deeper than ink wells. By the end, you should not only know how to make your very own feather quill, but also have a better connection to your own handwriting style. A simple step-by-step tutorial that also gets you thinking about the ways you can express your inner voice through the way you dictate on the page. Feel free to leave your co...
Great video....thanks for this
Great video! Thanks for sharing, always been interested in the course that Joby runs so thanks for the insight on it.
Glad it was helpful! Always happy to chat about getting into the craft, if you’d like to know more (:
So cool! Thanks for sharing your craft with us. Happy new year!
Thank you for watching! 😊 happy new year

wouldnt the membrane hold ink?
I'll be in the lookout for feathers now, as the ones I keep seems to be way too thin for this purpose.
Best of luck to you in your feather hunting!
I admit it was discouraging to find out it is best to leave a feather to dry for a couple months and it just happened i had one that has been nicely drying for about 8 months but it turned out to have a way too thin of a shaft to use as a quill, but spring has come and i will definitely keep an eye out of for feathers on my walks trough the woods. Thank you for this wonderful guide.
That’s a shame about the feather you had already! You could always look into other curing processes using heat when you find another - but otherwise I hope you come back to this video when it’s time to cut the quill into shape! Thanks for watching ☺️
Finally here now I shall become the greatest quill wielder in the world!!!
Indeed. A very charming man. One would quite appreciate a letter in such style. Subscribed ;)
Let’s us know how it goes 🪶✍️ thanks for subscribing! 😙
I love this, I’ve always wanted to know how to do this as I grew up with a mom who loves calligraphy and gave me the same love, also making things by hand is so so calming
So happy you enjoyed the video! 😌 that’s great that your mom passed on her love of calligraphy to you!
i loved the video, i have been wanting to make a quill for a long time now, this came just when i needed it!
Glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful 😊 Thanks for watching!!
great video and super underrated! do u think a peacock feather (not the fancy long ones, but just a regular feather) would work?
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed! I think a peacock feather would probably be a bit small so won’t have the best results but you can always give it a go and see!
thank you for the guide.
No problem! 😌 thanks for watching
Whose ink do you use? Do you mix black with e.g. Prussian blue? Your letterforms as shown have a lovely color blend.
Thank you ☺️ I use Windsor & Newton Inks and find they flow very nicely! I think it was just Ultramarine I used here

Thanks for watching 🙏 hopefully more videos to come :)
@@folkbiscuits Glad to hear it. You're authentic, and authenticity is the everlasting, unchanging currency. Don't chase views/internet approval; just stay authentic and passionate. Don't pressurize your art, it's fragile. Just put it in the garden and keep away the weeds of doubt and comparison.
Weird this popped up because a few days back my student asked me how we could turn my big turkey feathers into quills.
What a coincidence! I hope you show this to your student 😊 let us know if you do get around to making a turkey feather quill? 🪶🦃
