This channel follows us as we start a new life in the country.
From a small village in Warwickshire to the beautiful county of Ceredigion, mid Wales, UK.
After a 13 month wait to move, endless viewings and a lot of ups and downs along the way, we eventually found a smallholding near Tregaron in January 2022.

First Year on our Smallholding - A review of 2022 and plans for 2023.
Better late than never....so it's March 2023 and I thought it was time to review what we've learnt since arriving on our smallholding in mid-Wales in January 2022.
Working off a fairly old laptop and it seemed to struggle a bit this time around so apologies. Will aim to do a better job at the post-editing going forward :-) Any volunteers that want to give me a hand with editing - just let me know.
Join me as I review the past year and share some plans of what we'd like to achieve in 2023.

Removing Algae from Walls and Splitting Logs
มุมมอง 1522 ปีที่แล้ว
During the recent heatwave we took the opportunity to spray the external South facing wall with BioCleanze cleaning solution to treat the moss and algae that had built up over the years. With the good weather we also made a start on splitting a few tonnes of logs that we have. ►Subscribe to this channel here th-cam.com/channels/yoXNKzPTv0oLT9uGFyMTfw.html ► Video gear I use DJI mini 2 drone: am...
Pigs Break the Electric Fence
มุมมอง 1692 ปีที่แล้ว
A short update of what's been happening on the farm. The pigs have disabled the electric fence. The fence is not always on and I tend to operate it on an ad hoc basis but obviously they ate the connector when the wire was off. Lesson learnt. I'll keep the crocodile clip out of range of their mouths too. ►Subscribe to this channel here th-cam.com/channels/yoXNKzPTv0oLT9uGFyMTfw.html ► Video gear...

Balwen and Black Welsh Mountain Sheep
มุมมอง 9782 ปีที่แล้ว
As well as our hens and ducks, we welcome our 6 Welsh sheep to our West Wales smallholding. We were keen to get some livestock on our land once we'd gained our County Parish Holding number. That finally came through so off to the local livestock auction we went. First purchase was a Black Welsh Mountain Ewe Lamb (no mother unfortunately) who we're bottle feeding. Then we bought some Balwen (1 e...

Welsh Bungalow Renovation
มุมมอง 1852 ปีที่แล้ว
As there is no central heating or insulation in the bungalow we're renovating at our smallholding in Wales, we're aiming to insulate and reduce the draughts as quickly and as best we can. First to go was an old coal fireplace in one of the bedrooms. I used Kingspan 100mm PIR insulation to plug the gap inside the widest part of the lower part of the chimney and then some Rockwool 100mm to 'plug'...
Future Plans for our Smallholding in Wales
มุมมอง 8842 ปีที่แล้ว
As we settle in to our new smallholding/homestead in Wales, I share some future plans for the 5 acre plot we have. We're also renovating the 1930's dormer bungalow as it has no central heating, no insulation, and no proper kitchen. We need to do everything on a very tight budget so hope to generate some income from homesteading enterprises (e.g. bees, goats milk soap, market garden, shepherds h...
You really has started a greeat journey
@@zamirahmed2574 thanks so much. It’s been fun for the most part😀
Amazing ,this is my first bee hive at home video ,I am getting in love with it.
Where did you get the hive from?
Hi, I think one was from a beekeeping show in Telford and another from ‘Simon the Beekeeper’. I can recommend the latter.
@@cambrianviewfarm1689 how much did you pay for it?
🥰🥰🥰😍
New sub here, just about to begin my bee journey.
Thank you and best of luck. Not had much luck last year so hoping 2024 we actually make a success of it and get some honey! Weather has been too wet to film anything.
@cambrianviewfarm1689 Spring is popping out all over the place, the tree blossoms are better than normal so let's hope for a good year ahead
How did your first year go?
Hi, mixed. Lost one hive and not sure the second will survive the winter. I’ve joined the local bee association as I’m thinking Buckfast are not hardy enough for our wet and windy location despite lots of food around. No surplus honey either which is a pity. Will look to getting another variety in 2024. Happy Christmas btw 😊
Very interesting. That hive and what it’s sitting on looks like it could easily be knocked over by a gust of wind or by an animal. I thought hives were more strongly built and more secure.
The hives are behind stock fencing and the wooden posts are 4"x4" plus the hives themselves are very heavy. We will probably change the base to pallets (3-4) to raise it to an ergonomic height and this will also help keep the grass down a bit too around the hives.
@@cambrianviewfarm1689 Shows how much I know about beekeeping! I’ve seen other videos since with a similar arrangement and they look fine. Thanks for the reply. Good luck with the bees.
That hives need painting if it stands any chance of lasting more than a couple of years.
Yes probably does. Couldn’t stretch to Cedar hives first time round. Will see how they do in sunny(?) mid Wales.
A arte de cultivar as abelhas, bom trabalho amigo!! feliz semana!!👍😘🐝🐝
I enjoyed this and subscribed, I’m just about to start my beekeeping adventure, my kids bought me a flow hive for my 60th and I’m almost finished assembling it. I’m watching as many bee keeping videos as possible as it’s all new to me.
Ah nice they look like a great hive and I had considered one before opting for the conventional National hive. Thanks for subscribing. I’m a bit behind with videos but hope to create some soon.
Is it possible to attract a swarm to an empty box in the UK?
Yes they will look for a new home so a box will do if placed close to where the swarm have settled.
❤
I’m just starting bee keeping & I was to.d they should be South facing.
South facing would be into our cold prevailing wind so we’ve opted for East. Rarely blows that direction where we’re located and the bees get the benefit of the morning sun. South facing entrance would also be too hot in the Summer, but it largely depends on your context and location etc. (in my humble opinion). Good luck with your beekeeping journey.
Glad to hear of your progress - a great success so far. learning as you go is key. Great you have a freezer full already !😋
Thanks for your kind words. I tend to go at 100mph which can have consequences but we’ve done ok so far I think 👍
I would not have put the hive in a field with livestock, they will most likely knock it over.
Agreed although it is fenced off securely. We’ve just one field so a bit tight for space and we chose a corner where the sheep rarely wander, but we constantly review things. We plan to grow some thick hedging around that area in addition to the stock fencing that’s already in situ.
have you thought about planting replacements elsewhere so that you can have more firewood in a few years ? the way the worlds going i'd want my own free sources of wood.
Hi Dan, good point. We’ve planted a small orchard with a mix of fruiting trees and more plantings are planned this year (about 25 saplings of apple, plum, cherry and pear). The trees felled were just a bit too close to the house. 😳
Hi, I’m just in week three of my bee keeping course, enjoying your start in bee keeping, wondered where your up to in videos
I’m a bit behind to be honest with the videos as waiting for the weather to warm up a bit more. I’ll endeavour to do a 2022 review and plans for 2023 video as soon as I get a chance 😎
Grettings from Poland !! 😀
Hi, thanks for subscribing and glad you like the channel.
Best of luck with your bee keeping journey. Looks like a good queen. If you will be posting more bee vids will come back and sub . All the best for 2023
Once there’s a longer spell of dry weather I’ll do some more videos for sure. Thanks for watching.
We got our Black Welsh Mountain Sheep this past weekend! So exciting!
Great! Well done. We love them and they make a nice contrast to the landscape.
Anyone have an effective method to rot large tree stumps down?
Hope you enjoy the video and please consider subscribing if you did. What would you make from the excess honey and beeswax?
Wow this is proving a popular video! Thanks for watching. What do you like about pigs?
looking good
Thank you!
Inspiring thanks, we're looking for a move to Wales too for a smallholding. Sold Feb 2021 so it has been a long wait...
Thank you for your kind comment. Took us 13 months from putting the house on the market to actual moving day. Gave us lots of time to plan what we wanted to do at least. Hope you find somewhere suitable. We love it here and being closer to nature.
Lovely to see the smallholding evolving! Good luck with the new animals! Marcus
Thanks. We had an unexpected bit of progress after the video too - part of the field got ploughed and the fencer came to make some pig enclosures.
@@cambrianviewfarm1689 great news!! Taking shape!

Thanks 👍
We plan to paint the external pebbledash walls white this year. What recommendations do you have for the best stormproof paint? Please let us know in the comments.
Hi there, great to hear about your plans. Costly business but will be so worth it when you get there. My uncle (94 now) worked in Ammanford Colliery most of his working life!! Was so special to see those bricks! Unfortunately I’ve no experience in the works you’re undertaking but look forward to watching more soon! Have a good week, Marcus
Oh wow nice you have a connection with Ammanford Colliery! The bricks are very solid! Yes the renovation will take time and money so we will have to take our time. We hope to start some enterprises to help fund the various projects too.
Let me know if you've done something similar? The wind noise and cold air will at least be reduced a bit by adding this insulation.
Nice driving 👍 , think I would cut the other trees down a bit 😱 . Nice place wish we could do that mate
Thanks. The tree at the entrance is coming down to widen the opening onto the road. Also we'll fell the ones down the right hand side width of the house (as you look at it from the front). We had a tree survey done just to check what state they're in but to be honest they're all in poor condition so am just doing the 'urgent' ones whilst our budget permits.
So pleased no one got hurt….the damage could’ve been much worse. You have moved to a wonderful part of the world, and really looking forward to how you develop your lovely new surroundings! You came close to the branches with your drone too! Phew!! Thanks for sharing, have a great weekend! Marcus
Yes the drone doesn't stop immediately so need to remember that. Only had it a few weeks so still learning. DJI Mini 2 for info - it's an amazing piece of kit. We have some exciting plans for the renovation and land so hope to share these in future videos.
Good luck on your new adventures! New sub here! Marcus
Thanks for subbing
