Laminectomy Discectomy L4-L5 :: 1 year post-surgery!
I'm super excited that this is my ONE YEAR update! I had a laminectomy discectomy on my L4-L5 on October 17, 2014. As a then-25-year-old, it was scary to think about surgery, let alone back surgery. But it's been well worth it!

    I'm so glad I left Scribner Middle School. They make things look more fun than it actually is as a student. Mr. Bush threatened to arrest me 2 times because I was throwing a tantrum-- normal human behavior in children. ISTEP was *especially* not fun because of how long you are forced to wait and remain silent. It's equivalent of an insane asylum. You'll never get the wasted time back.

    I and the L4/L5 surgery and was good for 3.5 weeks. I would walk about 3.5 miles daily and then lay down. I went back to work and my first full day started ok but then progressed to my opposite side that never had pain hurting and all the muscles and legs are sore. So now I’m worried that something is not right. I’m praying it’s my body adjusting from laying down for 3 weeks to a full day of standing and some light sitting.

    I was okay up till this January and that month my right leg was getting weaker and then my foot started to drag and went to a hospital and they wanted to do surgery , but I aid let me try an alternative and they gave me some steroids and I got stronger and then they only gave me a low dose for a week and I got bad again and a month later I was walking with acne but now with a walker but I can hardly do that . I'm looking for a good surgeon since the first one didn't want to do it . So he wasted my time and I got to do something and since he said I needed that type of surgery , I need a second opinion steroids did help but temporary but hate to get surgery but cant stand this walker bit and falling down . Im a lot older than you and on dialysis . I was in good shape all before this . I cant understand that a young person like you got hit with this but if you made it , I can .

    hey Jen, thank you for all the video updates. I am trying to decide whether or not to have the same surgery as you. I feel that it will be the only chance for me to hopefully not have the back pain/ sciatic pain anymore. if I could ask you a question, did you have back pain for quite some time before having back surgery? aside from the sciatica. I've had back pain for a long time and not until about 4 months ago did I develop the sciatica. I'm just curious because my surgeon says this won't help the back pain but my physical therapist said after the surgery he feels then he will be able to fix my back pain. I was just wondering if you had any insight on this. again thank you for your videos!!

    • @jenlondon3957
      @jenlondon3957 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I herniated the disc in my back almost 3 years before I started having the sciatic nerve pain. It was an injury from working out (probably among other things). The herniation subsided after a few months, my life sort of went back to normal-with back pain/spasming coming and going for about 2 years after the injury. The last herniation flare-up was when the sciatica started, which is when the doctors finally said that surgery would be necessary. I'm 2 years post-surgery now and feel great! I don't regret it for a minute.

    • @RossSolis1
      @RossSolis1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@karamveer13 short answer, no. I was literally on the table to have the surgery, surgeon reviewed my MRI I had about a week prior to the surgery and noticed that my disc herniations had reduced drastically in size basically gone. However I think to much time had passed and I'm stuck with permanent nerve damage because I have daily lower chronic back pain... I just recently had an injection like two months ago and it worked for maybe 2 to 3 weeks and now the pain is back. I'm sorry I don't have much more info for you. I really wish someone could just fix it lol but I've been living with back pain for years and well yeah it sucks.
