Tensioning a high line!
มุมมอง 1.2K12 ปีที่แล้ว
WCU students tension a high line system utilizing a 3x1 z rig system with a change of direction pulley!
Jerry Clower makes it even funnier!
Trying to get a higher bid by saying the farmer harvested with a 3 legged mule. Hilarious.
I loved to go to the sales when we sold in Clarkton and Whiteville.
What is the auctioneer saying? Hearing a lot of terminology I don't undertstand.
Alot of what is said in between numbers is referred to as "filler words" and can be any variety of phrases the auctioneer can use comfortable. Some examples are "bid it on" or "who 'da bit now" or other things similar. So a chant, slowed down, could be "25...25 a bid it now, somebody bid it now, bid it now, anybody bit it now at 30? 30 here... 30 where? Say that fast and it's not long before you can say the words so fast it's not distinguishable to the ear save for the numbers, which in honesty.... is the most important part!
The RJR(RJ Reynolds), Dibrell, American, Lorillard ect. is the company that bought the tobacco.
This is world champion tobacco auctioneer John Kessler explaining the process and auctioning. th-cam.com/video/Jb3P2diRTkE/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUgc2FuZHkgaG91c3RvbiB0b2JhY2NvIGF1Y3Rpb25lZXI%3D
Was that Eli Helbert?
That guy compering the show in the red jacket is amazing. Is he famous at all, are there more videos of him in action?
Look up Jerry Clower, he was a great southern comedian.

Lost art of tobacco auctioneering sad to see. Danville Virginia was the epicenter. My dad Charlie was one of the very best of all time. He passed in 1987 during his reign as World Champion.
@LᗩᑎDO LᗩᑎD no sorry don’t recall them. Thanks for watching.
Competed in that same competition in '89, and used this video of Charlie Fowlkes (and others with Walter Wilkerson, Sandy Houston, Bob Cage, Harry Crisp, Mac Trueluck) for training. I was lucky enough to auction on the same floor as Bob Cage for a while, and many-a-time sold to Bill Yates, who seemed to be on the buyers team in every competition. Bill's style of buying was exactly as it is in this video, competition or not. My condolences, Sam, your dad was a true hero, I lament I couldn't meet him in person. Respect!
I grew up on my granddaddy’s farm I remember sitting in the big truck with a load of sheeted tobacco with my daddy and granddaddy and hearing the auctioneer selling tobacco, I wish it would go back to that way again I love farming and tractors especially Ford tractors and farm equipment it’s in my blood
I would love to see or hear michael cutts again
Hi I am your long lost broham
What type of knot/system did you use to lower the guy down, did you use pullies?
Years ago I had to recover a girls that became foot entrapped just above Cucumber Falls on the Lower Yough. Since she was already dead we ran a 10mm rappelling line cross the river, then attached 2 throw bags to pull a figure 8 that was attached to yet another line to lower me down to her. I then dive down attached loops of webbing around her like a makeshift climbing harness and then they pulled her upstream just enough so I could get her leg unstuck. It was Pretty gruesome, she was facing downstream with her leg trapped up to the knee. So whe the raft behind her hit her it snapped her leg. She was only being held in place by muscle and tendon. It’s worth noting that the water was higher then usual and the three rafts involved was unguided group.
