Kayaking with Crocodiles, Alligators, and Manatees - Two Days in Everglades National Park
During a recent trip to Florida, we spent two days touring Everglades National Park. The Everglades is the largest tropical wilderness in the United States, and it is famous for being the only place on Earth where crocodiles and alligators naturally coexist. Our goal while visiting was to see as much wildlife as possible, and to explore as many parts of the park as we could in such little time.
We started our trip on the main park road, stopping to walk every major trail or boardwalk along the way to the Flamingo Marina. Once at Flamingo Marina, we rented kayaks to venture deep into the park's submerged wilderness. In just our first day in the Everglades, we had close encounters with large alligators, multiple crocodiles (including a tiny juvenile), manatees, soft-shell turtles, and hundreds of exotic shorebirds.
For our second day in the park, we ventured into the North end of the park by airboat. We took a tour with Coopertown Airboat Tours, and they showed us many more alligators in the vast wet prairie.
Overall, we had an incredible experience in the park, and we were amazed just how much one can see in such a short period of time there. For anyone questioning whether to visit the park if you only have a couple of days, our advice would be a resounding YES!
We hope you enjoy this video as much as we liked filming it. More videos will from this recent Florida road-trip will be coming soon - stay tuned and subscribe to watch the adventure unfold. Thanks for watching!

Amazing Oregon Waterfalls | Pacific Northwest Adventure
มุมมอง 1953 ปีที่แล้ว
In this latest Sprill Elite installment, the lads head to Kentucky Falls, a beautiful assortment of waterfalls in the Oregon rainforest. While Kentucky Falls is more out-of-the-way than traditional waterfall destinations, the trip is well worth the effort. Within a mile from the parking lot, one should happen upon Upper Kentucky Falls, which towers high above the trail. It is possible to get cl...
Snorkeling with Dozens of Manatees | Crystal River, Florida
มุมมอง 8K3 ปีที่แล้ว
After a cold snap during our recent visit to Florida, we visited Three Sisters Springs in the Crystal River area. While the waters of the Gulf of Mexico cool below 72 degrees in the winter, the freshwater springs of interior Florida remain relatively warm. These springs become a warm refuge for manatees, which congregate by the hundreds during cold spells. We decided to visit the springs by inf...
Snorkeling in the Florida Keys | John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park
มุมมอง 17K4 ปีที่แล้ว
As part of a recent road-trip around Florida, we visited the Florida Keys for a few days, and snorkeled their warm blue waters. In this video, Sprill explores John Pennekamp Coral Reef State park, just off Isla Morada. With high winds and choppy surf, the charter boat was almost canceled, but we still had a good day on the water. We saw barracuda, parrotfish, huge coral formations, and a variet...
Snorkeling in Oregon | We Saw Hundreds of Fish!

In this video, Sprill takes on Odell Creek, located between Oregon's Davis and Odell lake. This was a first-time snorkel so we went in with little knowledge of what we'd see, but boy we were not disappointed. Outside of the water, we were treated to an amazing early-winter landscape, marked by snowy trees and iced-over puddles. Once in the water, the swift current made the snorkeling very fast ...

CLIMB INFORMATION Summit date: September 7, 2020. Our summer climb up Mt. Baker, WA, took place between September 5-7. On the evening of the 5th, we arrived at the trailhead late and slept in the parking lot. After waking up, we packed our bags and began the climb to the Railroad Grade. Upon assessing snow conditions at the Railroad Grade, we decided to wait until the next morning, when the sno...

Over the course of the trip, we dove some of the most magical places on Earth, ...

Mt. Bailey Oregon | Awesome Ski Mountaineering Adventure

Starting from the Mt. Once we made it out of the trees, we experienced some moderately sloped skiing and only took skis off in one short section where boot packing was faster. Although we left very late in the day, app...
Diving Clear Lake | Frigid Wetsuit Dive

Hope you enjoyed the video. In this video, we dive Clear Lake in Oregon, a lake famous for some of the clearest water in the world for diving. However, as you can see in the video, the visibility was very poor in the areas we chose to dive initially and we ended up having to scrap our plan because of it. The original plan was to start with a deep dive by the "underwater forest" that the lake is...

September diving in Woahink Lake, located in Florence Oregon. We got treated to that classic low, Oregon visibility that all PNW divers know and love. Although these dives were from a few months ago, we thought we'd upload the footage anyways. Each dive was around 55 min. In total, we did 4 dives (3 at Woahink and 1 at North Jetty), but only 2 are shown in the video. Hope you enjoy!

The lack of clarity reminds of getting water from a really cold fountain or faucet and the water is cloudy but over time dissipates and becomes clearer. I was always told this is due to a high level of O2 in the water. I’m wondering if the water chemistry is different in that part of the lake.

We have found that the reason for visibility can be many factors such as drivers disturbing the bottom of the lake swimming too close to the bottom, Boaters using anchors on the bottom of the lake and turning up ash. It takes sometimes several days for this disturbance to settle.
