I talk about stuff. Enjoy!
When a film is better than you remember
I remember watching Be Kind Rewind when it first opened in 2008. I was excited about the concept, but then forgot about it that same year. Due to other big blockbuster movies that came out that same year. But recently, the cinema gods recommended this one to me again and reluctantly, I decided to give it a rewatch.
To my surprise, I really enjoyed it and was better than I remembered.

A24, so much to say about them. But I'll keep it brief. Of course they're just a film distributor at the end of the day, but I wanted to dive into their background a bit more to see what makes them so "perfect" or not so perfect? I cancelled all pay services. I was paying $200 before internet. Not including other random services I have I want to keep. Scary to think all this including internet was around $400+ a month
great video - ai is scary -
I bought this movie on a whim for 5 bucks at half price books. Easily the best 5 bucks I've ever spent. A fun movie and one of those you can play in the background
Be kind rewind! A true classic! Just wanted to stop by and send some support your way! :)
Appreciate the watch and support! 🙌
@@kurtispeak your welcome, Appreciate you!
I've always loved this film I rented it from my public library (ironically a perfect place to get it) when I was kid and fell in love with it, got my friend a copy and we would talk about it in school and was a great time also probably inspired or least influenced me to in my own film making
🎉
YES! This is one of the most inspiring movie I saw in my life! We were doing monthly local home made short-film in that time (2005 to 2009-ish, when people stopped going out because of youtube and facebook). We produced and showed 10 to 15 short-films a month in from of 100 to 150 people each time! People were laughing, crying, socializing... miss that a lot!
My family and I loved this movie growing up. I wish it got more recognition back then. We watched it at least a dozen times! I always enjoyed renting movies, collecting them, and making a library to go back to, so it was fun to see a story centered around a video center store. But what I really appreciate is how the movie portrayed how everyday people who don't come from much can change a community by celebrating its history and bringing people together through shared emotional experiences which, of course, came from watching movies!
Really like this film, it’s a huge influence on my film making.
Didn’t Amanda show already do this ?
@@lilsaturn339 lol yeah they did something similar as a skit called “blockblister”
Outstanding movie. Black and Mos Def are such a good duo
Yeah definitely addding this to my list now. 😄Love this style of video man. Would love to see more film analysis in the future!
Oh I assumed this had like 100k views. See you at the top.
Finally someone talks about this film, its so underrated. The charm of the characters and the shenanigans they get into to recreate the tapes already makes it so entertaining. The soul of it is definitely being able to tell our own versions of stories, and how the ones seeing the final product can see the realness of it and get moved by it. The last few minutes always makes me emotional and I wish more people would give it a try.
The algorithm has chosen you.
All hail the algorithm 🛐thank you for watching!
Trying out something different for this video, let me know your thoughts! 🤝
the review turned out great! such a good recommendation 🙏
Ooooo gonna def put this on my watch list this weekend! Thanks bro 🫡
Amazing video and so well put together! Honestly so inspiring ☀️
Thank you Abbie!
Stop it with ai doom mongering AI will never replace humans with writing there are a number of reasons but AI can not come up with its own idea only copy other ideas.
Since you’ve commented on my video 3 times now, you’ve definitely caught my attention. I appreciate the watch! This was a timely video that came out last year, in 2023. Obviously, a lot can change in a year, and it has. The video is now a bit dated, but everything I said was shared with positivity and based on my own opinions about what was happening to streaming services at the time. If you listen closely to what I say about AI, you’ll notice that I talk don't say it's going to take over the world. Rather giving perspective on what some of these corporations try to do to push out creatives and take a cheaper route with AI. This video was meant to be a bit of fun and entertainment my friend. Tis all.
Also hi from the future Streaming is all but dying and physical media is the future.
This aged badly Good news theatres are making a decent come back.
For me it’s just when max removed half of the animations on there streaming service I just stopped watching hbo max they even remove my favorite animated show infinity train I thought it was a great show but I don’t wanna go on another streaming service like prime video to pay for something I wanna watch for a one time thing
"The beauty of art lies in the experience of making it." Couldn't have said it better myself. 🙌🏽
Every commercial that played during this video was in a different language for some reason
😵💫 wish I could control that, thanks for letting me know
If I study an artist and train on his work to do it myself, should I contact him for permission ? no ? Then why should these AI companies should ask for permissions. Disclaimer : I hate these companies and wish Adobe would burn in a hell. But arguments used by anti AI folks are pretty weak.
I feel like it's okay to use AI as a tool to assist you in making art instead of it just making the entire piece. I make music and I: write, record and mix my songs but I don't have the knowledge and skills to master them, so I've used AI to help with that. the video was great btw, the editing and aesthetic of it was really well done :))
@@finnj_ agreed! Its just ashame when corporations take full advantage of AI when artists are available for commission. I appreciate the feedback! And of course thank you for watching :)
IDK how this video got recommended to me but my impression is that the caption is too clickbaity, I follow @TonyAndChelsea. They have strong opinion about AI. My opinion is that, as long as we have more complicated technology we will need more qualified personnel. The issue here is that the government wants lest educated people as they are easily manipulated.
I think generative AI is an amazing new piece of technology for inspirational purposes. Sometimes you're stuck on something or maybe need some inspiration. You can now get that with a prompt. Completely letting AI making images is obviously not art.
It is for sure! Yeah I agree, AI art is not real art. If humans make bad or good art it doesn't matter at least it was made by us. Also, stealing the work or 'training' the data from TH-camrs was insane to me.
AI is stealing in the same way you stole the footage you used in your video. Did you ask permission to use every piece of footage? Did you ask Netflix to use their intro? Did you ask The Hollywood Reporter to use screenshots from their website? Did you ask the WSJ to use their footage, which wasn't theirs to begin with, but OpenAI's? Or did you use it because your work was transformative and largely surpassed the value of each and every element you used? Can ChatGPT show you the contents of an entire book? No, it can't. It doesn't work that way. It just gathers knowledge and creates something new on top of it.
Talk to every single creator on this platform that uses everything you've described in your comment and see what they say. It's all in fair use. It's another way utilize what we have on the internet to drive visual storytelling. Everything that AI creates is visual slop (IMO), its neat to play around with and utilize as a tool. But it doesn't have the character or personality to it. Everything created by anyone comes from something my message was to safeguard those creations without AI capturing that, re-rendering it into something an artist didn't consent it to make. I appreciate your thoughts and critique to my video.
@@kurtispeak Yes, it's fair use. And do you know what determines it being fair use? The law in a certain jurisdiction. That's why there are ongoing lawsuits: some people believe the use of these materials is legitimate, and some disagree. We'll see how it ends. I personally believe it's also fair use since it's transformative and doesn't display the original content as is; it only shows a version based on a certain amount of knowledge. You, a human, can watch a whole movie, but you can't show it to an audience without permission. You can only show snippets of it. And that's precisely what LLMs do: they have access to all the information available and then make something out of it, but they don't display it in its entirety. They go even further than that, and they don't show pretty much anything verbatim. And when you speak of "character" and "personality," those are arbitrary qualities that you personally value. That's why everyone can still choose to consume goods only made by humans, whether it's text, art, bread, clothing, or whatever. But it's not that creativity must be seen differently. You wouldn't be doing what you do if you hadn't seen any videos up to this point. Without a reference, with a camera in your hands, the result would be awful. If it's good, it's because you've learned from watching other videos. Somehow, if a machine does the same thing, it's theft. I don't believe it is.
chatgpt can show you the content of an entire book. there has been a lot of dramas concerning chatgpt leaking paid articles.
@@grandasperj No, it can't. What has happened is that chatgpt has shown information that was behind a paywall, but not in whole and not verbatim. However, since it was behind a paywall, the only way it could know that information is if its model was trained on it.
Time to go open source people!! We dont own any of these online things we pay for, while company's steal our stuff. For every big software there is an open source alternative - at least you aren't paying for for it that way

Great video!
just a note on the AI posters at the end: my guess is they probably hired an artist - but the artist used Ai
A24’s basic. I’m going back to Troma.
Great video keep it up!!! 🎥📽️🎞️🎬
Streaming?
how does this channel less than 1000 subs???? ....I have a feeling that's going to change quickly....
I think A24 is a little overrated. One out of every four movies is pretty good.
Great video overall, but I think you blew the usage of AI in a few posters out of proportion a bit. To imply that the decision to do so throws away the goal that A24 strives for and discredits the studio is ridiculous.
How many of the classic movies that have now been franchised and sequeled to death started out as experimental hail marys? Hollywood has become creatively inbred. A24 films might not appeal to everyone but at least they are willing to experiment and open the door for more potential classics to emerge.
great job well scripted and put together. the only thing is that if putting yourself on camera doesn't add to the video then leave it out.
everything everywhere all at once is their magnum opus 🙌🏻
We needed A24, that is why it exists
What apps did you use for this video, like this get the animated portions because I’m becoming a film major at college, thanks.
A24 has definitely been the go to for original storytelling. I definitely don’t like everything they make but I almost always appreciate them. The green knight ex mechana and the lobster being my favorites. Nobody even come close to them. I’ll also add that dei has taken over everything and yet A24 does it in a great way. Having diverse actors but not making that the point of the film like Disney they also don’t call their fans racist for simply not liking a film. Unlike Disney and a few others.
