My best friend in college who was a piano major had smaller hands with shorter fingers than mine, but she could reach a much larger range than me and play Chopin, Liszt, Rach, etc. How can that be? She said it had more to do with hand and finger flexibility than size itself.
Hi Michelle. My fingers are very short as well but I have somehow a bit of better flexibility (span range) between fingers 2-3, for example, what makes some pieces easier than other pieces. I can play Chopin, Liszt, Rach, but some pieces are just much easier in a smaller keyboard. Hope it makes sense. Let me know if you still have any questions. Happy to talk.

I have come across many accounts of pianos with narrower keys - including one mentioning Shura Cherkassky. The Goldhammer graduated keyboards mentioned and pictured in J Gat's book should really be available everywhere - just as different sized stringed instruments are.
