What if the dog pulls too hard? Especially that it is a small breed and am worried it puts more stress and effort on her body than needed really. She is clearly over-enthusiastic and over-hyped when on runs. Thanks!
@@TJudit003 this is when the use of commands is a priority. Training your dog the Canicross commands when in harness means you can determine the pace as well as directional commands. Training the commands means that you work as a partnership and they follow your cues rather than them dictating the pace or direction of travel! Hope that helps 🐾🧡
Some training you can add in to help would be: Interval Training: Alternate between sprints and jogs to help your dog adapt to pace changes. Verbal Cues for Pace: Use "easy" or “steady” to slow down and "go"/ “let’s go” to speed up, practice these cues during your runs. Customise Equipment: Experiment with bungee lengths so that your dog can feel when they are taut on the line and not. Your cues should marry up with what they feel in their body too. These should help you start to sync as a team and make your runs more fluid. Let us know how you get on 💫
Lovely thank you for the tips💪💛
FUEL
✅ Build Gradually: Start with short runs, increasing distance slowly to build endurance. Our coaching plans help you manage building endurance together. dogfit.co.uk/collections/canicross-success-improvers-intermediates You will also find our podcast episode here about building distance together really useful www.talkcanicross.com/episodes/going-the-distance-ultra-canicrossing-e5sn8-ak46r ✅ Train Consistently: Regular, shorter runs during the week build stamina over time. Consistency is more effective than one-off long runs. ✅ Read Fatigue Signs: Learn to recognise when your dog is tiring (e.g., lagging, excessive panting) and take breaks as needed. ✅ Hydration and Snacks: Bring water for both you and your dog if an endurance run is in the plan. Offering small treats to keep energy up is a great way for you to also stop and take fuel onboard. That’s where the Skinner’s Get Out & Go bars work really well dogfit.co.uk/collections/dog-nutrition ✅ Rest & Recover: Recovery days are essential. Muscles (both human and canine) grow stronger during rest!

Focus
Hope these help 🐾🧡 Focus Drills: Incorporate attention cues with positive vocal feedback as part of the warm-up and part of your training together. th-cam.com/play/PL2qLNVDAAGBttDsx4x0ahVZk8vdlCW_jy.html&si=SpnBcsvPlLvkrGIy Group Runs for Socialisation: Gradually expose your dog to distractions, practicing redirection and focus. Consistent Commands: Use commands like "on by" (to pass distractions) and "forward" to reinforce focus on the teamwork you want to harness.
Zu kurz finde ich dieses Video
The masters : 😃🥰 The dogs : 🥵🥵 (Kidding of course, they just look exercised and happy 😄)
😂 we tend to forget that, while dogs are low-center-of-gravity all terrains little machines, we are weird monkeys balancing on our tall legs, falling forward and catching ourselves back et every step 🤣 Dogs must be so confused haha « mum why are you on the floor, I barely touched you while running towards you, I was just happy to say hi ! »
Why are you enslaving its actual fun by keeping it on a lead
Great fun chatting to you and producing this podcast and You Tube Video. I hope everyone finds it fun and informative. Clare xx
So much great advice, thank you so much for chatting to us 🐾🧡
My Sheltie is reactive to other dogs. He's 8 very fit. I'm not so! 😆 My son does canicross with his dog.
It’s a great way for them to have a “job to do” which gives them a focus and drive that can help them so much.
Hey! I’m starting canicross with my 12 month Labrador. She’s great she loves to run and pull a lot, however whenever we run she bite the leash and will end up running sideways. We bought a soft and chuck it retriever toy so she would have that in her mouth in instead of biting the belt but I would like for her to not have anything in her mouth because she will also tend to drop the toys at times and go back to the leash. Thanks !!
Make sure you are using the commands so she knows what the "job" is that you want her to do. Building command training distracts them from behaviours like this. It may take time to build the behaviour change but short training sessions working on it really helps 🐾🧡
Can i use it with two dogs of different sizes? 14 kg and 20kg
Hi, yes you can, if both dogs pull in a similar way. If however one pulls more strongly than the other, we would suggest two separate lines, so one does not affect the other.
It looks amazing
We love exploring with our dogs 🐾🐾
Darwin ❤❤❤
Really great message about starting small and building up changes. It's too easy to think "I need to change everything" then end up beating myself up for not sticking to it. I'm new to canicross, but not new to peri menopause. The exercise is great, but the social aspect of any sport is really important to me. Canicross adds in a 3rd dimension of being with my dog, who has a lovely time running with his new doggy friends.
Yes absolutely! It's win win, support running with friends, exercise and your dog has a lovely time too🐾🐾
Thanks!
I'm disappointed this harness doesn't have Velcro release for the legs...pulling multiple husky's legs through this thing twice a day is a real bitch and I never would've bought them. But thank you so much for this video because even though I couldn't believe that's how it was designed, your video was the only source for definitively determining this information.
What’s the function of the canicross kit? Why not just use a waist belt with a bungee leash, And a harness for the dog?
The Canicross waistbelt is specifically designed to take the pull from around your hip area so there is no pull coming into the back which can cause injury. It sits across the glutes where it is far easier to control the speed of the dog running ahead of you. It also allows for a more balanced, upright run making it safer and more comfortable to run in.
Brilliant and what a beautiful chocolate lab and dalmatian in the into title 🥰
"Promo SM" 😂
Where’s the rest of it?
You'll find our podcast episodes here dogfit.co.uk/pages/podcast
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been looking for reviews on canicross belts (especially this one) for hours with no luck. Thank you for filling that niche.
No problem at all 🐾🧡

Excellent outdoor activity. : Pump dat boddee. : An enjoyable owner and doggy work out. : So, at the end of the day, : Everyone's a winner !!! 🔥🔥✌️😄👆🍀🍀
It's the best 🐾🧡
All these crackers in the wild hope a bear or lion don't get them, the dogs are smart and will get away no worries 😂
Thankfully not too many bears or lions where we are!!
I have tried running with my Sprocker spaniel and it's quite challenging as unlike the huskey I used to have he doesn't run in a straight line and jumps around in front of me constantly. How can I listen to the whole podcast?
If you head here, you'll find you can listen through various podcast providers dogfit.co.uk/pages/podcast
Some beautiful dogs especially that chocolate lab and dalmatian 😊
They really were the stars of the show 🤩🤩
The Patch pooch has ts tarted yet. He’s still a couple months too young. But having this will be great for him to get used to wearing and walking with me!
Good luck!
Morning John! We are delighted to say that you were chosen by our random selector to win our DogFit complete kit as part of our 7th Birthday celebrations!! Could you email us on hello@dogfit.co.uk with the size of harness you require, the colour you wish to have alongside the length of line you'd like. The link to the product is within the video description above to help you get the correct size harness for Patch. Congratulations once again from all of us at DogFit!
@@DogFit email sent. Many many thanks random selector!!
Me and my border collie 'Barra' are just at the very start of our canicross journey. He's just turned a year old and so we've been learning the commands on a lead. We're both ready and raring to go -hopefully with the proper kit 😬 🤞 🐕 🏃♀️
Yep, the kit helps them understand the "job" you want them to do. Once the harness goes on, they know it's run time! Good luck!
Arlo and I are very new to canicross, but VERY keen to get more into it with the help of this awesome competition prize! 🙏🏼
You'll not regret it!
Señor Bandido and I have been canicrossing for about 18 months. He's the best personal trainer and motivator out there😅😁
They are the best PT's aren't they?!
My dogs and I have not been running very long together. We're all still relatively new to it but having lots of fun along the way.
That's great to hear.
Peanut and I have been running for just over a year - and loving it!
This is great to hear! Good luck.
