JBAY SURF HOUSE
Jbay surf house is a recently started charity organization. Our efforts are for the children in the South-African surftown of Jeffrey’s Bay (Jbay). A lot of the children in the townships do not have access to education, because their parents can’t afford this. Because of this, all they do is wander around the streets all day. By offering them a free surf lesson numerous times a week, we hope to make their day, and whole life, a little better. Not only is surfing a great physical activity, being on a board and in the ocean has also been proven to be a great exercise for the mental health. The kids will also get a feeling of belonging somewhere, besides learning to be good at something. The first lessons we have done so far have been an amazing success; it was so cool to see all the smiles on the kids’ faces. We’ve so far operated with borrowed boards and wetsuits, and paid the expenses out of out personal pockets, but this is not sustainable. We are looking for sponsors and donators! Our first big goal is the purchase of a shipping container, which will partly be used as storage. The other, major, part, will be used for the children to play in or around, before and after the surf lessons.
