Semyon Izrailevich Snitkovsky was a distinguished Soviet violinist and pedagogue. Born in Odessa on June 11 1933. He studied at the Stolyarsky Music School and later at the Moscow Conservatory under David Oistrakh.
Snitkovsky won several prestigious competitions throughout his career, including the International H. Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poznań (1957), where he earned significant acclaim. He also participated in other major international competitions, further establishing his reputation as an exceptional violinist.
As a soloist, Snitkovsky performed extensively across the USSR and internationally. His repertoire included both classical works for violin and lesser-known pieces. His technical proficiency, emotional depth, and artistic integrity made his performances memorable.
lesser-known pieces. His technical proficiency, emotional depth, and artistic integrity made his performances memorable.
He also taught at the Moscow Conservatory, where he passed on his knowledge to a new generation of violinists. Many of his students went on to have successful careers as soloists and teachers. His pedagogical style emphasized technical mastery, musical phrasing, and deep interpretive understanding.
Snitkovsky’s contributions to violin music and education earned him a respected place in the history of Soviet classical music. While he may not have achieved the same global fame as some of his contemporaries, his legacy lives on through his students and recordings.

Thank You Very Much!
I always loved this symphony, even as a child. My dad loved classical music and I grew up listening to it.
When was this recorded?
Wow, this is just perfect. So charming yet bitter- sweet and nostalgic. Not to mention effortless technically but always a feeling that the immense and effortless technical capabilities of Rabin serve a higher purpose. My favourite version of this piece ever. Rabin at his very best.
Great violinist and musician, a wonderful artist who sadly passed away too soon. For some moments, his sound reminds me another genius of the Violin, Michael Rabin. Thank you for sharing these gems!!
Yo the commercials on an excellent piece like this ruin the whole song. 💀
WOW I always wondered how this nocturne could sound arranged as soloist and piano
When the NYP was at its best. These were refined artists. Today they are just musicians that can play the notes. Very few artists Note the age of most of the orchestra. Today much too young with lack of experience.
Il miglior violinista russo in assoluto 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Brilliant
The world is filled with masters of the craft and young masters learning. See them while you can and encourage the young. And learn. Even if you’re terrible, learn to be adequate. If you’re adequate, learn to be good. If you’re good, learn to be great. And if you’re already great, I have no advice save you should learn how to teach well. I aspire to be adequate.
So lovely legendary
Absolutely great no question or doubt.
No tienen dignidad poner anuncio a medio concierto?

I thank you immensely for making this video of a precious, unique film available for viewing and listening, I heard of the recording many years ago from the producer / director Robert Snyder but had not had the opportunity of seeing and hearing it. It is a beautiful portrait of Pau Casals and the town of Prades where he lived. But more, it is the unique video recording of him playing a full Bach Suite for Cello: an especially wonderful experience. And beautifully, skillfully, artistically realized in its audio quality, camera work, lighting and focus. It gives a new dimension to the art of cello playing with its focus on Casals bow work, which is magnificent! Thank you again.
Wow!!!
Best performance, superior to his 1921 Edison w. Eisen and his 1954 concert recording w. Marszalek. The 1954 recording, in particular, is sadly the easiest to find (uploaded in two parts I.-II. & IV. on the Gianluca la Villa channel) and is a disservice to Prihoda's legacy. In it he has a whiny tone, deteriorated bow-technic and in several places in the IVth movement can be heard playing an abridged version because he was then too feeble to play the correct notes. On Wendel's German-language Podium website, there is a biography of Prihoda mentioning he injured his right arm sometime in the 1950's. I wonder if this was immediately prior to the 1954 recording, which would explain his (comparatively) poor technic in it, whereas his 1950's recordings of Paganini Var. Nel Cor' etc. show an excellent technic. It is a deep disappointment that NONE of his recordings contain the III. Scherzo. After this 1925 Prihoda recording, Oistrach (Yampolsky piano) and Heifetz (Barbirolli cond.) stand shoulder to shoulder. All others do not approach their greatness, for what I know.

Tchaik 4 gets more and more brilliant every time I listen to it. The genius is in the writing itself.
I lost my socks for sure!
Ein launisches Mädchen ...
Literarilly singing with his instrument. The master of the cello. It is music for the spirit. May your legacy endure.

Exquisite. Sublime. Marvelous. Such highly polished musicians. And all under the skilled baton of the incomparable Bernstein. Watching the expressions on his face is a joy. He was so gifted. Tchaikovsky would have been so proud to have been there at Lincoln Center for that. I first heard Tchaikovsky's 5th as a young man of 18. I was swept away. Now 58 years later at 76, I am reminded of my youth and the countless times I listened with my dear father to these iconic works. Thank you to ioannis mavridis for getting this on TH-cam.
Strangely enough, though there are dozens of LB/NY Phil videos, in only six or so do they play complete symphonies, and this is one of their best.
The second movement, the andantino, just pulls at the heart.
Povero Mozart!!
Fantastic violinist Máster Korsakov ❤
It seems a bit tinny and rushed compared to others’ performances. Great piece of music, I think it should be slightly slower and grander.
God Tchaikovsky orchestration is so sublime that finale is pure greatness
