One of the troubles I found, with following the teachings of others, similar to what you're pointing out, is it's all from their own reference point. Their own way of thinking, their own way of assessing, their own filters. There was one guy who I followed for a long time, thinking he really had insights I lacked. But it came as a shock to me when I eventually realized that he was a much less critical thinker than I - he didn't question his own experiences in the same way, he would take them at face value. All this time I had assumed he understood great secrets, because he himself believed that he did, but it took a long time for it to occur to me that he might have actually just fooled himself, and that in some strange sense that also granted him some power to fool others.

Wise words. Understanding something like this is a good first step, but being "healed" from the "wound" and changing one's behavior is a completely different thing. This may sound a bit strange but I usually hear myself say things I have promised myself I would never say and while saying it think: "what am I doing". It's like you're programmed to be a certain way in certain situations and it's hard to break that behavior no matter how aware you are of it.

Brother, I hope you find Jesus Christ. You say "We're left here to figure things out for ourselves" which just isn't true. One thing you are correct about is that the time for "Spiritual masters" and "Gurus" are over. Don't place your value or depth of understanding on mortally flawed men/women. Jesus' wisdom (The Bible) is never ending, but also never changing. Seek God through his only begotten son, Jesus Christ. Worldly wisdom is limited in it's value and power. God also reveals/tells us within scripture to "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5). The verse instructs us to put all our trust in the Lord and not our own knowledge. The verse tells us not to be reliant on our strength and knowledge, but to trust in the Lord. You may not consider Christ much in your personal life, but it's never too late to consider otherwise while there's still time, Jesus was either, Lord, Liar, or a lunatic. Study, if you haven't already the person of who Jesus Christ is and the consistency/truth of his life. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father, "Except" through Him (Christ).

I resonate with this 100%, being an adult is learning that life is complicated and nothing is all black and white as it seems and developing the intelligence to read inbetween the lines of reality to approprietly change gear or change tune to hear or see the different colors or texture of reality, committing yourself to one expression, culture or tradition is beautiful but its not the full picture or its not the end of the conversation, just places for people who arent interested to take it further to have a place of refuge while simoltaneosly living with decent morals

Thank you, have done this before, and let things go, right now I have had a lot of things, holding a strangulation-grip, into getting totally stuck, from time to time. Yesterday at last, I could cry again, feels like a long time of only becoming more frozen in me. So to let go, and feeling, is the key here. Have had easy to manifest when I had more of an inner sense of safety within myself, than I have had for a long time. (have had too many bulldozers around) So I know I can get out of my stuckness, which has been there for a while/yrs now on and off, by accepting my feelings and, realising they are here to listen to too, again. No manifestation works without both focused feeling and letting go. Good to stay in oneself, and not say a word about what, one work on manifesting, to anyone outside oneself. Karma is day to day work, not something that attacks us from behind, mostly, thats people without any consciense, or compassion, who do such things. And I still believe Love and Kindness, is a better way, in everything Living ;)

15:50 It's like releasing a dog and seeing what it does, and you see that what it does is "wrong". I separated myself from society to be able to release the dog and "help" him (give time) understand what is most "beneficial". It is a lonely but very beneficial path that in the long run improves relationships with other people, making them more authentic, whether deep or momentary.

I also feel that I have to find the balance between what I want and what life offers and I know how to take advantage of. We end up putting too much pressure on ourselves and we spend the energy we should dedicate to taking advantage of every opportunity, calmly and flowing, but doing, living!

What I find fascinating is that what we most typically identify as being ourselves are our personalities. These are drawn entirely from a combination of genetics inherited from our parents, and then deeply influenced by our surroundings (again, our parents' personalities imprinted onto us during our formative years), and then our experiences in life. Therefore, even though we are a unique combination of genetics and psychology, when it comes to considering whether we have a spirit and if we add to that an evolving spirit carried through multiple lives, then that spirit is not us! How could it be, when who we think we are is just the body and mind we are using in this shape and size for however long we are alive? And if there is a spirit that moves between lives, it cannot be retaining and re-exhibiting our personality, which is earthly (genetics+experience from a completely different set of parents etc..). So, I have concluded that the spirit and what remains of our personalities once we die is merely a device for carrying experience from one state of being to another. Somewhat like a harddrive, to record the events and thoughts of a life, which dumps its data into a giant repository at death. Maybe that's "the mystery"?

I think competition, especially between men, is totally natural. Part of this is because of the male dominance hierarchy, which is necessary for mating rights and societal standing. I don't see a way to eliminate this personally, unless the entire population were to suddenly become enlightened simultaneously.

Hello John This is a subject that really interests me as someone who enjoys arguments from a point of view of expanding my views, ideas about life but also as you talk about to meet some emotional need for connection with someone else that may not always have been conscious to me. However I think we are heavily conditioned as a culture to believe that conflict is a bad thing rather than a potential for deeper connection and change as in the natural world cycles of harmony disharmony repair harmony. Most of us have experienced a very destructive form of conflict in our families of origin that usually involves imposition of power and so we shy away from conflict and hence difference. We also often bring our unconscious trauma into how we do the arguing so are not always skilful because our emotions run the ship. And our repair skills are usually absent as we can see in the wider world through the conflicts in Israel and Palestine - hurts pile up on top of hurts without actually being expressed openly. And eventually it all explodes in a destructive way. Whilst I am certainly not advocating conflict with all and sundry, I think in simply choosing not to express things because it is just for ourselves, can bypass opportunities to experience uncomfortable challenges to our certainties. Like everything an internal rule of being this way or that way creates a kind of rigidity... maybe that is the kind of argument you are referring to - the need to win the other person over rather than arguing with an open ended attitude : an offering it into the field of creative collaboration. I think one of the dangers of spiritual teaching and practice is that it can look like peace and self empowerment but I know in my own case it has been the avoiding of intimacy and all the threats to my own inner smugness. I appreciate this video in highlighting the kind of remove from the messiness of relationships that I have engaged in and my desire for a more vibrant messier kind of engagement. Thanks for the provocation.
