Heavenly Okra/Bhindi Curry with Tamarind | Vendakka Puli | Tastes Delicious! #vegetarianrecipes
Note: A variation of this recipe is to boil the tomatoes directly with the Okra without sautéeing them.
My mom’s recipe for this amazingly tasty Okra or Bhindi or Vendakka Curry, also known as Vendakka puli.
This is a traditional South Indian style recipe with tamarind that goes great with steamed rice.
Must try recipe with all the steps explained clearly!
Shopping list

- Okra/Bhindi/Vendakka - 500g
- Pearl Shallots - 300g (Replace with rose shallots or regular onions)
- 2 medium sized tomatoes
- 2 cloves of garlic
- Fresh coconut pieces (or frozen coconut or freshly grated coconut)
Spices

- fenugreek seeds
- Chilli powder
- Coriander powder
- Tamarind (pulp or paste)
Seasoning
- Mustard seeds
- Curry Leaves
- 1 medium sized shallot
- 1 clove of garlic

You put the same spices in curries and in tea also. So everything is the same taste and smell. Ilachi, long, dalchini, black pepper....
You would think so right? But when you make it you will see that a spiced tea tastes nothing like a curry! :)
