My apologies therefore then this 1968 10p (plus a new 5p) is pre decimalisation day D day except the multiple of 10 is decimal in nature, these 2 decimals (the first decimals) were introduced it seems in that year 1968 and circulated alongside pre-decimals of pounds shillings and pence which then were no longer accepted after D day or 1971. Alot of shops didn't accept the New Pence til 1971, presumably until they we're forced to do so. Personally it seems like it was change for changes sake, the older system seemed perfectly good really. Dave

They're just plain copper sheet Neil, cup shaped, not sign of percussion will post on my forum. All the best

Alot of our coastal defences in 44 were manned by Canadians and who's to say it's not connected to the pill box standing in the same field although 50 cal suggests either from aircraft or guns used as well as those (typically smaller) housed within the box. @66DMJC It's actually quite interesting. Especially with a 1944 date. I collect antique cartridge, and I actually have some loaded ammo with that very headstamp. LC was prbly the biggest arsenal for small arms ammunition. I'm wondering what you found was part of a late, lend-lease for Britain, whom supplied Canadian Forces, or cld it even be something from a US unit. If it is a case from a .50cal browning machine gun, that wld make sense. They were used in quad mounts for Anti aircraft, and possibly even a single M2 gun. Now if that case is from a .45acp pistol or .30cal, commonly called 30-06 here, that wld be something of a mystery unless it was used for training..

.50 cal Browning machine gun, I'd bet. No way to tell if aircraft or ground gun though. Round here the .303 is most common wW2, then 20mm, then the .50. Cheers Dave
