More Sounds = Less Noise
Today I'm gonna tell you about a really interesting and unintuitive audio effect that happens when playing several sounds at once - Other than you might expect, playing 2 sounds at the same time will NOT be twice as loud as playing one sound... Similarly, playing 4 sounds at the same time will be much quieter than actually amplifying one sound by a factor of 4.
In this video I'm gonna tell you all about it and explain exactly how the audio effect happens and what it results in!
This video is a bit more maths-heavy than usual, I hope I'm not overdoing it... Please let me know whether it's too much maths or whether you like it when I go a bit more in depth!!

Why you should NEVER mix on flat Headphones
มุมมอง 4594 หลายเดือนก่อน
After my last video about why you should never mix on flat speakers, here is part 2, touching why you should also never mix on flat headphones. I explain a bit about the history of the Harman curve for headphones, including Free Field Headphones Target Curves compared to Diffused Field and Semi-Reflective Field Headphone Target Curves and my opinion on recent innovations in the area. Why you should NEVER mix on flat Speakers

In this video I'm talking about why the ideal frequency response for speakers in a room is actually not a flat frequency response, but rather a distinct Harman target for speakers. I'm also showing you how to calibrate your speakers to that Harman curve using REW (Room Equalization Wizard) and Equalizer APO. You paid for it . Released it while having the rights to uss the sound. After stop paying you still have rights to it at the time of release.. isrc need to be documented well with proof of payment of the samples. After approvement they cant do that... Soundpacks ars pretty neat but indeed not usefull for transposing. Chopping and verry buggy filtering. E min transposed still show up E Min while being F at drag and drop... After some long time. It will not drag and drop the key or bpm synced correctly and just ignores the parameters leaving you with original samples. Mastering works great not having the default limiter in master limiter. Cut the crap frequencies with eq. Gain some lost punch/fullness with Soundgoodizer and MultiBand Comp. Then master without clipping or interfering stuff

The quality of the sounds are muffled. AI mastering is building bad habits for producers. You literally press a few buttons to master with fl cloud. And the end product is loud and squashed😂

You never really explained why you shouldn't mix on flat headphones. You also said that it's okay to mix on Harman ie 2019v2, but it famously has quite a bit of glare in the lower treble around 5k, making it really difficult to see into the mix. You are a small creator so I'm not really upset, but I feel kinda clickbaited by someone who doesn't really speak from experience.

Hope they find better options, as that sounds bad. But overall, as long as they keep the lifetime free updates for the DAW itself, it's fine. I don't think it's sustainable for them to keep offering free updates. They can't go back on their initial promise of free updates either, so I think this is probably neccesary for regular updates to the DAW itself I have komplete ultimate CE and other stuff, so I likely won't subscribe. So I will just keep benefiting from the free DAW upgrades. I will start being critical of it if they lock DAW essential features behind the paywall though But seems allright so far

Very good video! One advanced technique you may want to consider is the ability to send parameter data OUT of patcher to be used throughout the project. This also allows you to process parameter data in sub-patches for organizational purposes. You can do it with the fruity wave shaper and a peak controller. It's a bit hacky but it works. I can show you how to set it up if you'd like.

I think FL Studio should partner more closely with SoundCloud through a streamlined service. Users could pay a monthly fee that includes both the cloud service and SoundCloud Pro. This would surely benefit both companies. FL Studio could enable direct posting to SoundCloud and distribution to SoundCloud's distribution services. Unlike DistroKid, SoundCloud doesn't face the same issues, so a partnership like this could work out much better.

It just sucks you pay monthly, lose access to stuff after stop paying monthly. Let not talk about memory issues. Crashes. Not syncing with the project after some random time. Not transposing to keys you selected. Its a pain in the ass after some time (hours or shorter). Until shut down fl and reboot. Filtering will filter sounds and leave them out of search results leaving you with a limited list. It is useful. But sucks to work on after some time.. This guy was pretty based talking about his taste and not liking to pay. I do pay but only for good plugins. Not some bs with bugs in it

I can understand your anger towards Distrokid Distribution and FL-Mastering. But as a professional, those 2 features of FL Cloud are not a thing I even look at. - Of course we have a mastering engineer, who does the mastering and fore quick mastering, you should better use a preset of Ozone11, so this feature won't even be used. - Self-Distribution on some shady provider such as Distro-Kid is a bad idea in any case. Either, you release on a well known, industry-proven and powerful label OR you found your own label with a proper distribution, such as Kontor New Media - where there are acutal people sitting in the office that you can mail or call and talk to, if there is something wrong. I subscribed to it to support FL Studio. It is the foundation of my income, so I like to give something back. They do lifetime free upgrades - thats so insane. Normally I would have to buy a new version each year, like Ableton does. Yes - the sample-lib is pretty small at the moment and I am still using splice most of the times, but I feel, they will grow it over time. I am really curious about the plugins they now added to the menu.

Auto-Gain Compensation is something I wish could be built into a more advanced mixer as a native feature. Since so many third party plugin developers tend to rely on the "louder is better" to sell their wares, it would be good to be able to audition how those plugins perform without increasing the gain from the plugin. If it were integrated to FLS' mixer, you could activate Auto Gain on any mixer slot to prevent its plugin from adding additional dB to the output. Simple have FL Studio gain match the output from a specific plugin to its input, whenever Auto-Gain Compensation is activated for that mixer slot. That would make comparisons of what each plugin is and isn't doing to the input audio so much more easily. I believe Image-Line even own Melda Production who produce their own third-party plugin MAGC, if they wanted to save some R&D time, just give those guys a go at it.

User generated content on FL Cloud would be awesome. I'm not talking about just sounds either but presets for native synths and FX, patcher, themes, colors and icon presets etc. Perhaps with some micro payment option to give people an opportunity to make some cash and motivate hard work and a rating and review facility. That would be damn cool.

Definitely, even without any specialized application you could just use an EQ on the master. I wouldn't really recommend it though, because if you do it inside the DAW, this obviously won't affect any other part of your computer, like TH-cam or your normal media player.

for mastering you just need a compressor, soft clipper, equalizer, and a true peak limiter (that you can probably get for free). i just don't see why would you need fl studio's mastering. it's not very customizable, and to be honest, i don't really like fl's compression sound.

2:00 If I remember correctly the starting point for the adjustments was a headphone equalized to match a flat in-room response of a loudspeaker. So the response after adjustments was fairly close to a response of a anechoically flat loudspeaker in a good room (downward slope).
