Welcome to Video Store 64! Here is where I intend on uploading/archiving whatever I come across from the vast land of home video formats! (Preferably stuff not already on TH-cam, as to avoid saturation.) Other than that, I plan on making the occasional tech video--e.g., circuit troubleshooting.
Current capture method is an HDMI capture card capable of 720p60 plugged right into the HDMI out of my Denon A/V receiver. I record my content onto DVD using a Toshiba DVD recorder, then play the burned discs through a Sony BD player (which outputs at 480i for DVDs) and allow my Denon to do the upscaling. This allows me to capture analog media in the original frame rate with no overscan, as well as in high quality.
Always feel free to comment on the videos. I am always open to constructive criticism when it comes to capturing or otherwise getting my info wrong!
Enjoy!

Ford Video Communications Network: OASIS Orientation laserdisc
Picked up a sizeable lot of Ford dealer discs the other month, this being the "odd one out" as it was in a unique jacket. This disc would be to introduce Ford people to the OASIS database and show them how to utilize it. The disc opens with that loud squealing noise on the right channel because that's how the code is read on the consumer players; interestingly, there are two separate occurrences of the code on this disc, whereas any other Ford disc will only have it in the opening.

Victorian Cape May - Video Visit VHS from '87
มุมมอง 15วันที่ผ่านมา
This one predates the other two Cape May tapes already uploaded on this channel (this one lacks Hi-Fi sound). This one is more focused on telling the history behind Cape May, showing the town's architecture, and detailing life living there. Again, I presume you could either buy these tapes inside the general stores in town or write in to the production company for a copy (there is no barcode on...
HBO Weekend promos and Feature Movie intro from '81-ish

After a showing of "The Cat from Outer Space" on a VX tape. Estimating this to be from '81, since that's when "The Pee-Wee Herman Show" was released, but if anyone can give an exact date, please comment below. I know too that HBO was transitioning into a 24-hour format from '81 to '82, here it looks like they were only doing it on weekends.

These National VHD players are very reliable machines; however, when being used for the first time in years, the rubber belt and grease can not work due to drying up. In this video, I show the procedure for gaining access to the worm gear assembly where the trouble lies. The belt really just needs cleaning with soap and water and it's good to go.
Everyday English Essentials I - English-language instructional VHD Videodisc (Full Disc)

First part in a series of discs that were to teach English conversational skills to Japanese audiences. The job lot this came from included some paperwork discussing the series, so hope that explains if these discs were sent to schools for students or to centers for anyone to learn English. Except for the "Review" segments, which are dual-audio (played back in straight stereo here), the disc is...

Beta Hi-Fi Demonstration tape...in linear stereo!
มุมมอง 40หลายเดือนก่อน
Linear stereo (the normal audio track on magnetic tape, but two channels instead of one) was a feature that did make it onto some Betamax models, but American consumers basically only saw the jump from mono audio to Hi-Fi stereo on the format. Well, the very tape that was to introduce people to the glory of Beta Hi-Fi turns out to also have stereo audio on the linear track, which needs a linear...

My GEN 10301 clone of this is stone dead besides the light coming on when the on/off is pushed. Nothing on the digital readout. Can you please share where you got the manual from? Thanks
Very nice video. I have a DP-950 with a very big issue. The unit is always in external mode. It is not possible to switch it back with the remote control to the standard disc play mode. On the upper right side there is always a grey empty rectangle in which normaly the chapters, time or frame could be showed The arm is moving to the start position and only playing a chapter you did choose before. After the chapter finished to play it is going back to the home position. Maybe you have some idea or suggestion what could be the reason for or how to solve this problem? Many thanks in advance.
IRV CROSS RULES😁
Hi there. While i am still searching for the fault in my DH5U (see my old comment on this video below), I managed to get a half broken DT100U. This is almost the same as the DH5U just with an ATSC receiver build in. They also share the same service manual. The device had blown capacitors on the secondary power supply. It would display the error message "Error 303, Video Signal not Found for this program". Only for digital tapes. Analog does always work. "Easy fix", or so I thought. I repaired the obvious (all electrolytic capacitors on the two power supply boards) and also the ones on the PRE/REC amplifier board. Since I did this to the DH5U before, it was almost a routine by now. Sadly, that did not fix the issue (black screen and error message 303). The following things are interesting though: When I use Fast Forward or Rewind, the picture search will always work fine for the HD playback! Also I noticed, that when you let the machine record for a while, the problem disappears for most of the time for many hours to come! The machine will work and play HD fine and eventually, the error symptoms will slowly reapear. At first the playback of HD content will start to freeze frame, but not the normal "drop out" like freeze, but a permanent freeze, until you stop&restart the tape. The interval between the freeze frame and stop&start cyles of the tape will get smaller and smaller until playback will run for only a few seconds and then HD digital playback will fail completely with error message 303 (again). I noticed, that in this case, digital SD footage still works for some time longer until that will fail also. After this, LS3 mode footage might still be playable, until it will also fail to error 303. --> When I hit record for a few seconds or minutes, functionality will be restored for (most of the time) another few hours of operation. I even recapped the digital boards SMD electrolytic capacitors as last resort but it did not help either. Voltage of the power supply looks to be well inside the voltage range, the service manual tells me. What I could not check was voltage ripple. Need a new scope. When the machine is working, It will play tapes very good with basically no dropouts, so mechanically it _seems_ to be intact. So alignment seems to be ok. The good thing is, that I can do most replacement/repair work quite well in my opinion. All this work and I still managed not to damage any of the devices further. But my theoretical knowledge of this digital VCR seems to be limited. Do you have any idea what I could check? This time, I think the digital board with the decoder is working fine, since even in error case, decoding still works somewhat (when tape is fast forwarded for example). Also, it does not seem to depend on temperature. Sadly, the digital board of this thing and the DH5U are not 100% interchangeable. The power supply on the DH5u is also missing a few parts (because it does not have the ATSC tuner). So, interchanging parts between the two and build one working machine is not that easy. Only drive mechanism, PRE/REC and system board seem to be 100% equal. So, If you have any idea what I could check with the symptoms described above, I would be very happy :-)

One of my favorite commercials 😊
*February 29, 1976*
ABC aired "What's Up Doc" twice (once on January 23, 1976 and again on December 17, 1976). This definitely has to be the *January 23, 1976* airing judging by the audio quality before the network updated its audio system later that same year.
This is recorded on *May 5, 1977* as part of a tornado outbreak in the Springfield, Illinois area. On that day, several tornadoes slammed through the towns of Atlanta, Waynesville, Danvers, McLean, Shirley, and New Holland. Only two people suffered injuries, and dozens of homes (including two machine sheds and a Sunoco Service Station near Interstate 55) were destroyed.
Damn! Nice find! It's so strange that WTVD later replaced the funky "EBS Test" text with simply "EBS" in an arial font.

Did they really need to put the scrolling text on the top AND bottom? One or the other, please. Nonetheless, really cool find. WTVD were still using a variation of this slide in the late 1980s. BTW, have you encountered any other EBS Tests so far, or is this your only one to date? Also, really enjoyed that lost ABC Password episode you recovered earlier this year. That series was really badly wiped by the network and only seven complete episodes are currently available. If you find any other game shows on these tapes, do be sure to share them, as you might uncover some lost rarities. 😀
Song is a bop though
Do you have a way of contacting you? I am very interested in what's on those V-Cord tapes.
Sure, it's astromathlete64@gmail.com
It seems like WTVD used this same background for their EBS tests, as evidenced from another upload featuring a test from 1988. Not sure why they had to put the scrolling text at both the top and bottom, though.
We're the Guiding Light episodes complete? That's a hard show to find from that era...
Yes, the owner left everything intact! Doing quick tests, there were 7 out of the 11 tapes from the lot that are recoverable (the rest had bad reception, making them practically unwatchable), so far have one of them digitized.
@@VideoStore64 Do you have an email address or some other form of contact? I'm very interested in seeing what's on those V-Cord tapes.
