Xpeng G9 & G6 charging test
Xpeng G6 & G9 charging test at NIO's 500kW public charger.Both cars have 3C batteries, the G6 is 66kWh LFP and the G9 is 98kWh NCM.
Due to the restrictions of China's national standard GB/T 27930-2015, even for liquid-cooled cable chargers, the maximum output current of the public charger is limited to 400A. Only the car company's own charger can charge its own cars with more than 400A.

Can you also please record a 100% charging session?
Great video. Thank you for posting Patrick!
Nice. Very good and informative charging videos. Thank you. Can you also test Zeekr 007 and the Byd Seal 06 GT. I am really curious if how Shenxing+ from CATL and BYD blade (2nd generation?) compare with one another.
Excelente carro

cheap cost
very cool comparison
Cant really see what the voltage is, but looks like 495 something. Would be nice to see the 800v performance? Is that about 250A limiting or voltage
its kind of wired, that a High 800 voltage battery do not charge faster then about 120KW.. every other brand get more like 230KW as standart. special those with 800volt system. Xpeng G9 goes to 400KW. tesla charge with about 250KW.
Because charging infrastructure his using has a max charge rate of 120kw. In perfection condition, the BYD Seal can charge at 150KW until 54%.
Good video. Is the intelligent cruise control (ICC) with lane keep assist limited to 120 km/h, as in the Atto 3. thank you for answer 👍
Can you please also record a session until 100%, not necessarily starting from 10%. One big advantage of LFP is the top charging rate and BYD seems to be very good at this charging with 83 kwh at 80%.
Does anybody know why the first 2 minutes the charge rate is limited between 5-8 kw? Is it doing cell balancing at the beginning too? The charger reports 25 degrees in the battery during this phase so it does not seem to be that the battery is cold. The same behavior is found on other BYD cars (like Tang).
My best guess is that's battery pre-conditioning. A bit weird because LFP cells are supposed to be less sensitve to temperatures but maybe dc fast-charging requires conditioning anyway.
@@devact6169 I was thinking the same initially, but 2:42 shows the battery at 25 degrees (yellow line on the chart) takin 8 kwh, then 3:46 shows the battery still at 25 degrees taking 119.2 kwh. So there is no increase in battery temperature in this time, but still a limit in the charging power.
@@raduioanitescu6704 I'm not 100% convinced that's battery temperature. The screens look as if taken from a web app for the charging station, it could just be charging cable temperature (a sensible thing to monitor for the station since the cooling on those could potentially fail). Tesla Model 3 owners reported similar behavior with their cars equipped with LFP batteries as well. Apparently the batteries will heat as high as 40 degrees before beginning the actual charging process.
@@devact6169 I have a Model 3 with LFP cells, the behaviour is exactly the same. Actively heat the battery up to 41.5-42 degrees Celsius and then keep it between 45-50 for the rest of the session. I think most LFP cells have similar parameters because they use similar electrolytes and cathode formulations. It is possible but very surprising if the charging cable matches exactly the same temperature curve. The label on the screen reads - 温度 - which means Temperature. Could be both. However, I looked at GB/T charging standard, which is based on SAE J1939 standard, which has battery temperature reporting in the communication protocol. So the charger would get this information just like the % from the car and would make sense to report to the user.
Thank you for sharing this Patrick. Is this the short range (61kwh) or the long range (82.5kwh)?
He says it's the long range 82.5 pack @ 10 seconds in
@@pauldoree3967 I was confused by the 120 kw charging speed that seemed to match the small battery Seal. I thought the long range should charge with 150-155 kw, but it seems that the charger is the limit at 500V and 250 AMPs. The car can do more. Too bad :(.
@@raduioanitescu6704 yes, slightly disappointing. I’m still seriously considering one though.
@@raduioanitescu6704 My English is poor.In China, no matter what the specification of the charger will be limited to 250A. The GB/T 20234.3-2015 (Guo Biao , National Standard in China) limits the maximum current of the charger to 250A,that's why Chinese EVs charge slow. Even the VW ID.series are limited to a maximum of 91kW by the charger.th-cam.com/video/4JRCkLbX2Yw/w-d-xo.html But BYD Han,Tang,Seal and Xpeng G9 are the same as hyundai ioniq 5, use 4PIN rear motor as inverter, battery pack voltage reaches 550V-640V. BYD seal can reach 150kW on 250A charger, Xpeng G9 can reach 130kW (3C battery version, the 4C version has a maximum of 480kW in the Xpeng charger).
