Greg Harradine, Composer
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 29 ธ.ค. 2012
Hello, I'm Greg Harradine. I compose music, most often for solo piano.
Each month I write at least one new piece, and share it here on TH-cam. Most people would class my music as 'classical', but I am also much influenced by folk music. My compositions are often inspired by other works of art - novels, paintings, poetry - and also the natural world.
I share scores, recordings, and much more, via my Patreon page. You can find out more, and sign up, here: www.patreon.com/gregharradine

About the "rereading" quote, it was not Nabokov who said it, I think. I believe it was Martin Amis. Or was it Nabokov?
Martin Amis was a huge Nabokov fan, and no doubt said something similar, or perhaps quoted Nabokov. But it was the Nabokov quote I was thinking of, from his Lectures on Literature: “Curiously enough, one cannot read a book; one can only reread it. A good reader, a major reader, and active and creative reader is a rereader.” Incidentally, Martin Amis appreciated James Joyce too, but recognises that he is quite a different animal to Nabokov. Here is a wonderful few sentences from Amis where he compares Nabokov and Joyce: “If you go to Nabokov’s house, metaphorically speaking, you get his best chair, in front of his fire, with his best wine. If you go to James Joyce’s house, you come into this big drafty edifice, and there’s no one there. And then you find him tinkering around in some scullery. And he offers you two slabs of peat around a conger eel, and a glass of mead.”
Look into Jim O'rourke's work. He produced Ys. Parks is his hero.
Great producer!
It's a perfect album...
It really is.
The rhythm here is so gripping... you so reinvented them... dark and unique... this was pure entertainment 🙏🌹
Thanks Therese!
very good review. out of 100 points i give it 95.
Haha, why thank you.
It's such a beautiful composition..👏👏👏
Thank you! I really enjoyed writing this series of five short, simple pieces. Great for late beginner students, or good sight reading practice for more advanced players.
Beautiful Medley, thanks for showing the score!
Thanks for listening! Always enjoy seeing a score myself, so I try to show it in most of my videos.
Awesome. Clever arrangement. Nice twist on it with minor chords and left hand ostinato. I like it. Not evil though just a little mischievous!!
Thanks! You’re right, not evil, just a little bit devilish.
I agree... I'm really disappointed unfortunately 😢 and I'm a fan of Coldplays first three albums - some excellent Alternative Pop Rock on them with excellent Songwriting 😁 But for the past few Albums... i don't know - I loved "Coloratura", their behemoth of a track on their last album. But everything else feels like the same over and over again: Chris Martin and his vocals extremely present, while the other band members almost never get to shine, some interesting ideas but that stay small and don't go anywhere satisfying unfortunately and very few hooks or memorable moments musically I can relate to feeling emotionally touched hearing their music - they always had this "sparkling" almost magical sound that makes them unique and one of the better modern mainstream acts, because they can pull on the heartstrings, but for me "Moon Music" was quite boring, maybe it will change on a few more listens tho (although I kinda don't want to listen to it again). Also: for me it would be a solution to change their name to "Chris Martin's Coldplay" because I agree: they don't feel like a band anymore, more like Chris Martin's solo project
Enjoyable ❤
Thanks! It’s a fun mash-up to play.
You’re very gifted big like Greg 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks, Justin. This was a fun arrangement to put together!
You clearly have a taste in music, this sounds really incredible! 🤩
Thanks, glad you like it! It was a fun arrangement to put together.
I really love this album, she dedicate it to her lovely husband, she's 55, she aint doing anything for big money because she has that already from her younger days, i listen to those songs daily
This is a little disorienting to watch when it's zoomed in like this 😵💫
You're right. This was an experiment which I don't think I'll repeat!
1:08 is this paganini’s caprice? it kinda sounds like it HAHAHAHA and at 2:43 is that rach’s prelude.
From 1:08 it's Night on Bald Mountain (in the left hand), and I didn't intentionally allude to Rachmaninov from 2:43, but if you hear it, you hear it!
It's another great album by Coldplay. Love the universal sound they have created in the recent years.
Love the Dies Irae Dies Illa att bar 112 hahaha
Who doesn't love the Dies Irae?!
Enjoyable.
Thanks. A bit of festive fun!
Love it! Hilarious, had me with a big smile throughout! Thank you for posting.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Did somebody disturb Mr. Ludwig van Beethoven? Awesome, fun and disturbingly Pathetique... Bravo Greg!👏👏👏
Haha, thank you Biljana, much appreciated! It was quite a fun arrangement to put together.
Delightfully demonic yet still somehow upbeat. Great arrangements, Greg!
So lively and yet with parts of calm and serene, the mix up of emotions in here makes it such a remarkable piece to listen 🥰
Thanks so much, I appreciate you listening!
Beautiful composition, I really appreciate the colors you have inserted 🙂
Thanks, very kind of you to say!
Amazing composition ❤❤❤
Thanks for listening, much appreciated!

Great piece Greg!!!! What a fantastic ensemble
Thanks, Sally! Yes, they were an amazing group to work with.
What a pleasure to listen! To me this sounds like ,, Welcome to the magic sound store!" Bravo!👏👏👏
Thank you Biljana, how kind of you to say. This is quite an old composition of mine, but I remember writing it as if it were yesterday!
BEAUTIFUL! I absolutely love the delicacy of the very beginning and end, but I have to admit that my favorite parts are the rising lines starting in measures 6 & 38. Very evocative, I am so honored to have been at all referenced in such a wondrous work.
Thank you, Connor! It was a pleasure composing this piece, thanks for providing such an inspirational stimulus.
Beautiful 👍👍👏👏
Pure beauty! Wonderful Greg, bravo!🌹
Thanks for listening, very kind of you to say!
As english is a second language to me, I struggle with the word plays of Ulysses. I could (have) read it in translation, but I feel it's not the same. Like it's untranslatable. My top 3 of authors: 1. Dante Alighieri 2. László Krasznahorkai 3. I can't decide: Hartmann von Aue or Alasdair Gray or Umberto Eco or Novalis or Péter Nádas or H.J.C. Grimmelshausen or Cormac McCarthy and many many more...
I totally get that about Ulysses and translation. I’m a huge Krasznahorkai fan. Also love Dante but I feel, as you do with Ulysses, that I’m missing much reading Dante in English. I haven’t yet read Alasdair Gray but I have Lanark on my shelf waiting to be read! Love Eco too…
@GregHarradineComposer I'll keep ip improving my English maybe one day Ulysses will open up zo me, I have it on the shelf. I have the luck to be able to read Krasznahorkai in the original, I quite think the musicality of his language is also untranslatable, but I'm really happy about his international success. I recommend Gray a lot, I didn't read everything yet, but Lanark, Poor Thing and his short stories are all great.
Just awesome 👍
Thanks for listening Joshua!
So very knowledgeable ...you so drew me in and kept me hooked... delightful listening to you 🙏🌹
Ah, thanks Therese, kind of you to say! Hope all's well with you.
The cliffhanger was strong with this one ⛰️
She must be singing about somebody from last year, since she met them in October, which was before last Christmas. Harmony reveals the lore? 😂
Swiss white wine in particular.
Yes! I had to make do with a perfectly adequate Chablis.
Beautiful! Super like💥
Thanks Antonio!
Thanks Greg for nice sharing👌
Thank you Erica!
Coldplay is like a cult now, a woke cult
Coldplay is for people that have no ears for good music, its pretentious crap now, they were good 24 years ago
Her third album, What the Truth Feels Like, is what I’d want more of from a mature Gwen. She’s still having fun and being quirky, but she’s was able to mix that in with more mature topics as well, and created a somber sound that still felt her own. This album just doesn’t have any personality. Swallow My Tears was catchy but safe, and nothing else on this album stuck. And I’m a huge Gwen/No Doubt fan!
Appropriately titled album Jonny's or warney's?
I just saw the " Billboard" top 10" songs vid and most of the artists sounded like a weird amalgam of yacht rock and disco. Not surprising as those styles are new to many people. New to some but those styles sound very dated to people my age. Not something I would listen to but it is intersting in a musical history context.
You apparently don't know what Yacht Rock is. This is most definitely not that. It's a collection of 10 insipid pseudo country songs about Blake Shelton. Sad that personal happiness has utterly sapped her creativity. Her last album and even the Christmas album, were fine. But this just goes too far.
Nah this album is dope. Huge improvement over last time
Gwen always came back to the seeds/plants/flowers as a metaphor for life. I liked the album, but I can tell it isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I feel like it's what she is into right now and good for her that she is not trying to be in high school anymore or revisiting her old stuff. It was so painfull to watch her slow clap jumping on the air with Swantee, that felt cynical and lame. I am a fan, always was, and I found this album very charming, idealisticly romantic, maybe naive, with some post trauma written all over it that if you went through a relationship with some abuse or gaslight, the words will hit different, as it did with me.
Interesting 😀
