RE: Thomasville Aquatics and Community Center Recognized as a Great Healthy Place by the NC Chapter of the American Planning Association (NCAPA)
(Greenville, NC) On Wednesday, October 16, the NCAPA announced their annual awards for Great Places in North Carolina. The new Thomasville Aquatics and Community Center (TACC) was recognized in their Healthy Place category.
The facility, which opened in May 2023, replaced an aging swimming pool with a state-of-the-art aquatics center that includes a 5-lane competition pool, zero-entry splash pad, and a 16-foot waterslide, along with other amenities. Since opening, the pool has hosted over 50,000 visitors, multiple swim meets, and hundreds of private events. The new building has a large rental room that can be divided into 3 smaller rooms that open onto the pool deck, a concession stand, and the City’s Council Chambers.
As part of the project, Stadium Drive was improved with a new streetscape design to calm traffic and a wide sidewalk to connect to the rest of the Memorial Park amenities and to downtown Thomasville.
The City is grateful to the NCAPA for recognizing the importance of this new recreational facility to the citizens of Thomasville, which correlates with our vision of “Building a Better Thomasville Together.”
