Lovely to hear Murray Walker voice talk about Australian motor racing
Always sound better on the mountain ! Think they sound better cause sound ricoshays off walls !😄
Don't care about dirt they've dug up on him; still a legend!
Such a shame he had so much .ore to contrbute to motorsport in Australia
Nothing wrong with skaifes engine in a straight line for sure
Vn commonwhore I own one sounds like beautiful machine
Lightning larry
🥝✔️
Classic Australian 4dr race action
Go brocky
Perkins summed up the Nissan's right there, they should of never been allowed on the touring car circuit
Just like Larry Perkins said. You introduce a race to compete with touring cars. Four wheel drive and steer with a twin turbo six cylinder against a street car. Australia will never be the same.
Hogwash, those commodores were purpose built track cars, it was just people looking for excuses because Nissan was better
2.6L vs 5.7
@@ArtVandelayOfficial 5.7? What crack are you on?
@@ArtVandelayOfficial 😂🤣. 5.0lt. And those GTRs were 600k each without spares, full race cars far above the cost of anything else on the grid.
Brock was driving for Larry’s team in 91 . Brock brought his sponsors with him but Larry owned and operated the show.
I still have mine. Boy oh boy. It is fun to drive. To have to know how to drive. My VP GTS sounds just like that.
Nissan a race car not touring car well said LP
No
I still have my 1992 VP HSV GTS. You can not buy today's racing cars.
That’s not a racing car mate, it’s a taxi with a v8 shoved in it. The results speak for themselves.
Wade Dixon, yes mate and what an Australian taxi. You buy it from the showroom and you can go racing.
@@andrewphillips4897 Are you joking, the VP GTS wasn't close to being track ready
Beautiful Holden 308.. Race cars will never sound the same again!
larrys car, when he hit 6th gear on the hill at conrod, damn
and the cutting, sounds wicked
Pretty sure it was the 304 not 308, but i could be wrong.
i agree
@VortexNeurofunk - Top Ten shootout lap. Of course it looks faster. Times don't reflect it, though.
Yep 84. In 83 Longhurst continued with the BMW and in 84 he drove the Perkins built C'modore (as pictured)
with the body kit they look like beefy r32's
@Antifaith29 - this was definatly 1994, round 2 of the ATCC The Skaife/Richards Skyline (with Richards driving) crashed at the end of the 1992 Bathurst 1000
The sad fact is, just about all the guys in this highlight clip have retired.
@seinfeld11123 I know this is an old comment but im pretty sure this was actualy the first year of v8's only. If you remember the bathurts the year before in 93 when skafe crashed his skyline talking about how it wasnt how he wanted to retire the car ect ect.
No 1994 was the 2nd year of the V8 category, 1993 was the 1st. The skyline GTR crash you're talking about was 1992, the last year of Group A rules in Australia, and it was Jim Richards in the car when it crashed not Skaife
This is 1994, the HRT Commodore have Mobil decals on them, Brock moved to HRT in 1994
see from 1:53 check out how close he was to the wall !
Is that dinosaur jnr on the audio???
if only the v8 supercars were like this now ahaha
@dmied1 im talking about the actual race not hot laps. 161 laps 6h 19m Mount Panorama (1,000 Kilometres) Bathurst 1000
yes that is what they call drafting Murry (lol they never heard of drafting thats how old this is) these cars look great. skylines, Commodores (VP's, look great) old falcons, sierra cosworths & BMW's ohh just thinking of these days gives me a hard on, I was only 9 years old but I still remember, even when lowndes had the VP, or VR's with Brock and did so well for his debut bathurst
this was when it was true touring car racing, many different Make, models, and cars, all with similar power / weight ratios, some turbos some naturally aspirated, some 4wd some not, an amazing time bring back the rules of this era, Toyota are dying to get into racing in the current V8 super taxi's I mean V8 super cars
That one lap was more exciting then a whole season of todays v8 supercars! Ok maybe not but it shows what is missing from todays racecars. I would prefer cars like that doing 2:14's then v8 slotcars doing 2:06's
unfotunatly we will never see anything like that again! 2 much downforce, to much grip & to much boredom these days! bathurst is always good, but v8 supercars, I prefer watching other forms of motor sport these days days. muscle car masters is my fav now!
thats our forever legend.....
no downforce on the old cars so pretty loose under brakes and into mc philimy
i wanna race there ONE DAY
Me too but not possible
thats pretty fast for a tank taxi cab.
excuse me 4 saying this but........... BLOODY BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it also showed the main ledgends dick johnson, tony longherst (u can also tell it's tony longherst with his bright blue eye's) and it also showed brocky as well... and a few other gr8's....... gr8 work :) from a racing nut ;) who's only 16 :D
unreal skaifey, love it! if only alcohol and tobacco companies could still sponsor sports, they'd have a lot more funding!
Ha Ha Larry always the politician. Get a jab in at the Nissan's while you can.
fucking AMAZING
i almost agree with you on some things. top fuelers are the worst comparison to draw a v8 versus turbo debate. as much as i love them, remember this. they have 11.2 litre motors. have psi superchargers cranking excess of 40 psi. use a mixture of %40 nitro/%60 methanol as fuel. and blow up like a grenade at the slightest bit of tuning irregularity. ford should have used xf turbo crossflow sixes as touring cars.
Calder's AASA right? whatever it is its not cams and i heard that the wouldnt actually pass cams safety reguations anyway.
I just had a look through the 1994 highlights DVD that I have- and the burning brake happened during race 2 at Mallala in South Australia. It was round 8 of 10. Skaife won that round, and that pretty much put the outcome of the C'Ship beyond doubt. Gullie9- Bathurst wasn't a round of the C'Ship until 1999. In 1996 the cars raced there for a sprint round and then later in the year the normal Bathurst enduro. Pity Bathurst isn't a stand alone event like it was all those years ago I say.
Hey i was sitting at the exact same place as you
Oh that was great. I can still remember when I watched some of these races when I was 6 years old. You could watch them on Eurosport even in Germany. On which track did Seton lose that championship because of the burning brake?
great footage. Brock and Perkins two of the all time great drivers. I wish it was October already!!!
Yeah hey
Yeah, I remember watching this at the time with heart in mouth. Back it in and nail the bastard. Good ol' Brockie.
Hey Prozac3261,thanks for posting this clip, the old Holden V8 realy did have a sound all its own.The boys out here in the Old U.S.A can not beleive it either.Love to be able to run one of those old beasts in classic racing out here mate.
I've got 6 off them in my shop at the moment , love them , used to run 350 Chevy's but i fitted a 308 in my Isuzu
what a fuckin legend
