3D Modelling on the iPad with Shapr3D | Is it WORTH the cost?
What slicer do you use ? I tried to convert ply to stl and i could not make it. I’m using raptor from creality
Is this scanner rly woking easy like this ? i have testet the Mole 3d scanner and it was only shit to work with it :D no scan work.... I'm pretty hurt to give the whole topic another chance now Can you therefore recommend the CR otter?
Yeah what you see is how it performed. Apart from some editing with reducing the processing time cause no one wants to watch an empty screen for 10mins but you get what I mean :) Its my fav scanner so far!
@@DraftID i will try and give them a chance :)
@@PronoxGTR34 check out my deals page and you might find a coupon that saves a bit on the price :) draftid.com.au/deals/
Thank you, sir. Bambu is no help. My extruder was jammed before the gears in less than a month of use. I had no choice but to pull apart the gears. Went well thanks to you!
Glad it helped you! Hopefully its easy printing from now on.
I used the lizard scanner, only a few times before I gave up on it! massive change since then
Its pretty frustrating starting cause the ads make it look so easy! Was actually the whole reason I started my original tutorial series for the lizard cause there was like 0 documentation at the time. I think Creality have learned a lot and the new scanners are quite a leap in performance etc but also there have been good improvement to older scanners like lizard too.
Thank you for the video, it really shows the strength of the CR Scanner very well. But I urge you to put an affiliate link on your description, as I decided to check the price and would like to buy one and I would have used your affiliate link for that, but there was none. Waiting for similar videos, cheers.
Thank you for your feedback. Because all the promotions change so often I think my best solution is to create a dedicate page on my site and I can just update them all in one place. Ill prioritise this :) For the moment you can try this shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=2015992&u=3490786&m=124834&urllink=&afftrack=
Heya mate, on your advice I set up a dedicated page to my sponsor discount deals. Enjoy! draftid.com.au/deals/
Thank you for your video, very helpful. Vectorizer needs payment already, are you going to publish video with inkscape as you've said? I'm really looking forward as you are explain everything perfectly!
It was like a week or two after posting they went paid sub plan :( Ill have to do that inkscape tutorial at some point I think!
Nice video. I noticed you did a series of videos about the CR Scan Lizard about a year ago. What do you consider to be the key differences between the Lizard & Otter?
I did and plan to do one for Otter too but more directed towards the new crealityscan software. Which itself is probably the biggest difference is they use different software and I find the newer crealityscan software is nice to use. The otter is also much faster to scan liek you can move over an object quicker and it also resyncs faster and more accurate if it loses tracking. Oh the colour mapping is way better too. Something that would take an hour on the lizard and probably crash, only takes 5-10mins on the otter.
@@DraftID thank you for the feedback. I’m definitely going to upgrade from the Lizard to either the Otter or possibly the Raptor. Still trying to work out if the Raptor will be worth the extra expense.
@@peverington if your doing full on reverse engineering and really small objects, I think the raptor but if just wanting a good scanner get the otter.
Great video! Thank you. You have a new subscriber.
Thanks :)
Scan just the battery cover and you can make your own knuckle controller
Ill give it a try :)
Using a hammer on a 3d build plate??? Thats a bright idea. Still, you need to do whatever will get the job accomplished. Recommendation - next time you build a test block, add more holes at different dimensions to fit your part. I would have used 6.10, 6.15, 6.20, 6.25, etc. The greater number of test patterns, the better the fit. Thanks. Great content.
The hammer was not an ideal solution but had to do something. Pretty sure in the video I make a test block to fit different sizes.
which iPad is this and what specification is needed to run this program smoothly ?
This is the M2 ipad pro. M1 onwards will run shapr3d fine.
Definitely keep these Creality otter scanner videos coming. What type of scanning frame rates are you getting with your spec computer? I’m struggling to choose whether to buy a creality Raptor or Creality Otter. 🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼🍀😎☮️
Thanks! So my system is an i9 9900k, RTX 3080, 32gb ram. Handles things well but probably due for an upgrade later in the year. Ill have to check the fps next time but felt smooth and fast so must be getting the fps they advertise, I think its 15 or 20fps? Ill have to check and get back on that one.
@@DraftID yes they advertise the otter at 20fps, and raptor is 60fps. Those pc specs you quoted, are they for a laptop or desktop? I’m looking at a second hand laptop that has a 3080 (16 gig vram) and a i9 11950H 8 core cpu, plus 64gig of ram.
@@stevesloan6775 Sorry its a desktop. I think those laptop specs will be more than enough plus give you portability that I wish I had at times. Good thing with Otter is it draws power from the 3.0 USB and there is no power cable required to the wall. Not sure on the raptor if thats the same or not. Forgot to add before that the raptor seems great if you need the blue laser but it does require tracking dots to use in that mode.
Nice mate! Great video. What computer specs do you have? If you’ve used an einstar, how does the Otter relate to that? Looking at my first personal scanner (I’ve used Creaform at work for years) to scan car centre consoles and a bit bigger too. Cheers mate. Subbed.
Thank mate. Its getting a bit older but its an i9 9900k, nvidia 3080, 32gb ram. Probably due for an upgrade later this year. I haven't used an einstar but Ive got a 3dmakerpro whale, creality lizard & ferret, and revopoint range. The creality otter has been the best out of all of them.
Ahh right good to know. Yeah my gtx 1060 won’t cut it so I’m looking at an Asus G14 ROG AMD8945hs 32gb ram, 4070 - if you reckon that will be enough? Thanks for the reply mate 👍🏻
Fantastic... Brother.. Huge Respect for you.. Thanks.. Really worked with my AMD Ryzen 5000 & NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1650.. have been trying from more than 2 years and tried many method from online source but not worked anyone. Again thanks a lot...
Glad it worked for you. Its amazing they make it so difficult to implement a basic feature.
Awesome video mate liked and subbed. A few questions as I’m looking to buy my first scanner for my 3D printing product business: 1. How do you think it will scan a black internal box - like the centre console compartment of a car? 2. What’s the computer specifications you’d recommend or minimum? 3. What’s the dimensional accuracy of that print? Could you design products off that scan data and have it reliable - +/- 0.5mm? Thank you kindly!
Thanks for watching and engaging. 1. Typically scanners are pretty bad with black but from what I have seen with the otter it does really well. I was scanning black controllers and was fine. 2. They say win 10/11, 7th gen cpu, dedicated gpu, 16gm ram 3. a print that small came out pretty much the same but I don't have the tools to dimension accuracy. Another guy on YT called poyo (search poyo otter) did some accuracy tests which could be worth checking out.
😬you kept your printer on wile doing this??
Yeah no harm
Does anyone know if it's true that you can't do this with the Bambu Lab's A! series? They say the print heat will stop if you try to go over a magnate.
Hmm I haven't heard anything like that but I don't own an A1 so not closely watching the socials on it.
Are you not worried about the cumulative stress you're putting on the bed support structure over time pressing all these magnets in against the bed?
Yes which is why later in the video I decided to increase the size and glue the magnets in rather then press fit them in.
I have the same PC case. Good taste.
Its an awesome case hey!
HI, I received this scanner for testing, and I'm fighting like hell to try and scan small objects. Have you managed to do it? I've tried using a small smartphone plate for coins, but the result is very ugly, and a conchioglie - same thing, nothing works, and if I remove the subject and put the owl back on, it works perfectly! It's driving me crazy! I scan a Ryobi screwdriver with its slightly shiny black chuck, it's fine, even the chrome ring at the end, the black parts, nickel, but if I want to scan a small black object, a piece of wood, it's a disaster! What about you?
Its possible that its too small an object or that tracking markers might help. I plan to do a video soon showing a range of objects which might give you tips for the type of objects your scanning.
If I have to turn an object over, will this unit be able to merge two scans together, or perhaps a job for Blender? Also, could you test some driftwood or similar, about 3/4 meter long?
It works two ways. Either it will realign and continue the scan, or you can stop the scan and create a second or more scans which you can then merge together and process. Its actually quite good at merging the scans together provided you give it enough detail to figure out some common areas to align together.
@@DraftID Brilliant, thanks for the heads up!
what are the minimum system requirements for this scanner? Wondering if my laptop can handle it
Hello, the min specs are: win10/11, gen7 cpu or above, nvidia/amd gpu, 16gb ram. Or macOS 17.7.7 or above, M1/M2/M3, 16gb ram
Thank man , It works !!!
Great :)
thanks mate, got a jam in my extruder gear and this video was a lifesaver, subbed.
Glad it helped! I wasn't expecting many views with this one but I did it to help someone out there. Appreciate your support and hope you enjoy the content.
That was really cool! I’m keen to see how the Raptor compares to the Otter when using the NIR mode. From what I’ve heard the otter rivals the king of budget 3d scanners the Einstar. 🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼🍀☮️😎
Ive been seeing some amazing scans from the raptor. Maybe Ill get my hands on one eventually.
Nicr video one question tho screw drive link to buy
Thanks. The one I got was on amazon. There are a few available so just check the reviews of each. www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0B8FX9FMT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
good idea but way too shaky. I mean your video is too shaky and you are moving your head way too fast.
Yeah was worth as try but doesnt translate well
Hmm or clue it with superglue :D because I saw how far the bed was moving, I dont think that isnt good for the mechanic if u do it more times.
Watch till the end :p
can i ask like... isn't it better to make the part solid where the magnets will be, and just... drill the hole?
I suppose you could but you might end up chewing up the material.
I like it. I saw an ad online and decided to try the free version, just for messing around at home. I'm nearly 62 but I immediately saw the potential and decided to pay the subscription fee because I have to regularly produce small parts at work and manually drafting these parts was a drag, especially when you'd have to make changes after review. I also like that there's a fair number of tutorial videos that you can follow to learn the more complex features of SHAPR. I'm hoping that they add some more features to the 2D drawing production capability. This would be useful when trying to do exploded component drawings. Overall a great program. I use it on my desktop at home with a LG 32" WQHD Nano IPS 144HZ HDR 400 curved monitor. Producing CAD drawings makes my work look so much more professional!
Thats awesome you found a good use for it :)
Awesome work. Do you have a way to fix Solidworks 2024?
you should be able to edit that reg file in wordpad and change any 21/22 references to 2024.
The design and user experience of this was made for iPad. I know there bunch of apps out there that probably do more but they all seem so bloated and old.
Thank you for sharing
Your welcome!
thank you soo much its work
Sneaky of the lower end companies providing organic shaped objects to scan. It would be more beneficial if they provided a pyramid or octagonal shape with various patterns so that it could be used to validate the scanner is working correctly. The higher end products have a fixed board shape that calibrates the scanner so that temp changes etc can be taken into account.
Ill be doing a object comparison video soon to show a bunch of items and see how it goes against them.
Cool. I wonder how this compares (in real life) with the ferret pro.
ferret pro is for medium to large object scan, while this covers small, medium and large. Ferret pro can not scan owl like this:)
@@jessiemmm Thanks
I have a ferret (not pro) and might have to do a comparison some time.
@@DraftID Nice, also would be good to see a wider scan (maybe a car part/shinier surface) to see how it tracks and scans on multiple instances.
Have you tried to scan a (human) face yet?
I scanned my daughters face and it was quick and easy. As like most scanners it does not pick up on hair well. So if you planning to scan people and resin print them or something, knowing a tool like zbrush will get you great results.
ues body mode, so you can scan hair too
@@jessiemmm thx ill try that
@@DraftID Thanks for that reply. The unit looks good, a bit pricey for our "curiosity". Ultimately we're interested in incorporating a scanner into our studio as a new service/product but that $900+ price tag makes it a highly questionable purchase. That coupled with the zero customer service of Creality (at least for printers) makes is a no go.
@@Lensman64 hold off for a bit and should start seeing more content as people get the hands on the scanners and that might help with a decision.
Would be interesting to see how it handles a functional part.
I’ll be testing more variety of parts and posting results as I go
@@DraftID get a plastic part from a car or home appliance. Scan it, print it, and see if it fits.
@@UnCoolDad will do :)
Great video. I do this. lot my self. But I leave it at 3 layers on top or distance from the bottom (0,6mm), it give the best result imo. I also use the the 0,2mm clearance for the holes, so the magnets has a tight fit.
Thank you :)
This video was extremely informative and exactly what I was looking for :) Here is your sub and like!
Awesome, thank you!
It is not a "secret mode". Solidworks just won't let you use it if you have a non-certified graphics card.
Thanks for the video. What is the purple filament you used? It looks so much like anodized aluminum, I love it and need it for myself!
Im pretty sure that is the bambu dual colour silk. Its really nice!
Does it clog like other marble PLA’s?
I used it quite a bit and didnt get any clogging. It does say not to use 0.2 nozzles though, so stick with 0.4 size are above.
thats awesome, thx 4 the video
