Cambrai Barracks?
Yes
Yay I was in Balaklava Troup 91/03. Great memories ☺️
I remember you!!( I was the Belgian guy) How is life?
@@Belbrit yes I remember you too. A good set of lads there Michael. Just looking at the troop photo we had took. Bloody good times. I hope that you are well. I'm doing okay. Still alive haha. Hope life is treating you well?. 👍
Great days! Indeed, what a troop we were! I just sent you a friend request on facebook!
Anyone help with identifying the unit of the lads wearing the white forage caps on parade?
13/18 Royal Hussars, they later this year amalgamated with the 15/19 Kings Royal Hussars and became The Light Dragoons.
@@Ayns.L14A Ah many thanks 👍
if there is one phrase that NO Soldier ( dont matter what CORP, what Branch, what Unit) should EVER Forget ,, what is it ???? lol Quote " I HAVE NO LIVE ROUNDS OR EMPTY CASE's IN MY POSSESSION , Sir " lol ......
Cannot believe i did 3 postings at cambrai bks....monday morning parades on that square.
Mine was 87/20 and was with 2RTR at Carrick this is a blast from the past
I would highly recommend NOT joining the armored corps, especially the RL or RDG based in Catterick, Northern England. You'll do most of your trade training down in the south, when you get to your unit you'll hardly ever do your trade, other than 2 or 3 times a year on occasions like Castlemartin or Cambrian Patrol firing/operating the vehicles. Most of the time you'll always just maintain the AFV, carry out level 1 work on them (the REME should do the rest in terms of the mechanical side), do morning PT, go on mostly generic exercises (not using the AFV), go on Gunnrey courses and hang around a dirty hanger doing not too much. If you join the Army now (that is as of this time very undermanned, all Crops) join a corps that you'll obtain transferable skills, qualifications and an trade you'll utilize more often (hence why the RAC aren't issued any real deployments, as they aren't fully needed). If you want the bland, mostly boring hanging around the hanger scene, with a northern boyish regiment then, by all means join.
You cannot satisfy everyone all the time. There is always a grump, normally those who cannot excel in anything in particular. The mediocre!
I enjoyed 24 years in the army, 4 of which were with a northern armoured regt before re trading into something else. But the times i have had, the experiences i have witnessed etc can never be paid in gold. Those memories are priceless. No civvy job can match what the army can offer you.
No idea what you are on about you belter... I spent 20 years in the RAC up until 2015..... every minute was awesome..... you obviously lasted 5 minutes.....
No wonder there were rumours of Britain retiring all its tanks.
@@steffiebee5224 You're a sad man
That cavalier had a misfire
Brings back memories. My pass off was many years before and it was the beginning of an interesting career, and one I would love to repeat. Alas, my regiment is no more, amalgamation waters down individual regimental history, but is kept alive by those still remaining.
What a load of f*****g shit ! Get rid of the bloody music for a start. Did my training at Cambrai Barracks in 1979 (3RTR) and it was nothing like this load of crap. You wore uniform for the first month, then having met the required level you got your civvies back. Did not wear berets until you had learnt to march and salute in the proper manner, god help you if you f***ed up. You marched everywhere, to the cook house, the naafi, medcentre. Failure was not an option. You could be reported by a member of a senior intake for not marching in the correct fashion. Could be asked to produce you ID at any time, failure to do so you could end up carrying a 'shell' (prac hesh round, this went everywhere with you. To cookhouse, the bog, the shower, even to bed. Did the river run on numerous occasions, even got bollocked for singing 'Moon River', & had to do Gas drill (in nbc kit) was in a brick building. When told to do so, approach the instructor, mask off then name, rank, number, & if cleared to proceed go outside to cough your guts up. Sadly The Third no longer exists due to gov cut backs. Had the privilege to go to the amalgamation parade in 1992, a sad day.
We wore our uniform from day 1 and out beret had to be earned which was somewhere in week 6 if I recall correct. Our civvies were locked up until week 5 and ONLY released for the weekend (which was our first and only weekend free during training). The “music is the regimental march of the Tank Regiment (my boy willy) who were the training regiment at that time. The orginal film is on VHS tape and I’m unfortunately not clever enough to remove the music, admittedly it is a bit overwhelming. Although I only served 6 years, I still look back to these as the best of my life! I joined as a young adult, 17yrs and 3months. The minimum to join as an “adult”. I could shoot a rifle but too young to drink a beer :-)
They most certainly did in 1991!
Bullshit because RAC don't do their training at cattericl
Bullshit because RAC don't do their training at catterick.
They used to. i am ex 2nd RTR. I did my basic there in 89 and was posted there from 90 to 92. Not got a clue where they do basic now. Been out a long time now.
+trev spunkbubble Ah right fair enough. They do phase one at either Pirbright winchester or harrogate then of course phase 2 at Bovington.
@@davidgreen4792 Back then before the government dismantled the army the RAC was big enough to have its own training centre. When i joined there was for example 1, 2, 3 and 4 RTR. Now there is just the RTR a single regiment and there was alot more Cavalry regiments. The only members of the RAC which didnt train with us was the Blues and Royals and Lifeguards. Who trained with the other guards regiments at pirbright and even them 2 regiments were merged except for ceremonial duties. Heart breaking to think about these days.
Harrogate I think now
I was only just an Army Cadet between 1956-1959 in the 7th Cadet Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment reaching Corporal in 1959. All my Exams and a lot of training took place under Regulars instruction at Chichester Barracks so I can remember many of their names. We also wore the collar dogs in remembrance of the 7th Regular Btn, who won the only battle homour on their way to Dunkirk. I was terribly proud to have worn the cap badge and uniform of the Regiment. Sadly I had to move away and then rejoined but in The Buffs which were never were the same. Barry Titmus

lol they had terrible drill they did the about turn on the march wrong
About turn on the march constantly changes, i have no idea what to do all the ime
Tankies fucking shite
the dreadful music stops at 10:03...
There’s much worse on current radio!
That "dreadful music" as you put it is the marching tune of the Royal Tank Regiment..show some respect
seems like a laughing stock compared to training nowadays.
Not from what I've seen chap, Although this film doesn't do that generation of recruits many favours.
It must have been good as the FOF (Friend or Foe) Identification Cards issued to American forces in the Gulf and Iraq wars essentially said "Do not start an engagement against British forces, you will lose." Essentially, we don't finish the fight until we win. I suppose you can afford the better training when the military is smaller though.
Detail exactly how it is a "laughing stock" please? Everything is not supposed to be Hollywood and tacticool. You can stick to playing call of duty.
