Welcome to the official channel of the Yale Glee Club!
From its earliest days as a group of thirteen men from the Class of 1863 to its current incarnation as a more than eighty-voice all-gender chorus, the Yale Glee Club, Yale’s principal undergraduate mixed chorus and oldest musical organization, has represented the best in collegiate choral music.
As one of the most traveled choruses in the world, the Yale Glee Club performs a repertoire that embraces a broad spectrum of choral music from the 16th century to the present, including Renaissance motets, contemporary choral works, world music, spirituals and folk songs, and traditional Yale songs. Committed to the creation of new music, the Glee Club also presents frequent premieres of newly commissioned works and sponsors two annual competitions for young composers.

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced;
but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed-and gazed-but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Amazing piece from an amazing musician. This version is a sensational achievement, put together remotely in the most difficult of circumstances during the pandemic, but it perfectly captures the enormous emotional range and power within the music. The Amen is almost impossible to get through without choking up. Huge congrats to Joel and all who took part.
Amazing! which country is this?
USA
I was in the Yale Glee Club 1953 to 1955. Jim Martin. February 23, 2023
Wow--just saw this--very sad--this is my father. He died in September 2023. He so loved Yale and singing. He had a beautiful tenor voice....
Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky, The flying cloud, the frosty light: The year is dying in the night; Ring out, wild bells, and let him die. Ring out the old, ring in the new, Ring, happy bells, across the snow: The year is going, let him go; Ring out the false, ring in the true. Ring out the grief that saps the mind For those that here we see no more; Ring out the feud of rich and poor, Ring in redress to all mankind. Ring out a slowly dying cause, And ancient forms of party strife; Ring in the nobler modes of life, With sweeter manners, purer laws. Ring out the want, the care, the sin, The faithless coldness of the times; Ring out, ring out my mournful rhymes But ring the fuller minstrel in. Ring out false pride in place and blood, The civic slander and the spite; Ring in the love of truth and right, Ring in the common love of good. Ring out old shapes of foul disease; Ring out the narrowing lust of gold; Ring out the thousand wars of old, Ring in the thousand years of peace. Ring in the valiant man and free, The larger heart, the kindlier hand; Ring out the darkness of the land, Ring in the Christ that is to be.
So nice to hear this conducted by someone with an intuitive sense of what to do with all those tempo changes. It's an elegant and gorgeous piece when done right, but klunky and awkward under the baton of someone who doesn't really know how to deal with the timing. (have ye not unn! der! stood! from! the! founDAYYYYshunz -- as our allstate director had us do it -- does not work!)
Super
A pleasure to listen to this wonderful performance.
Magnificent performance!
Thomas Fiorito, Yale College '66 Magnificent. A truly professional performance of a beautiful and difficult arrangement. The soloists were extraordinary. The videography and editing were a work of art. Congratulations to all.
I’ve played this at least twenty times. It is Magnificent!
BTW: I was a YGC member in 1953 - 1955 and was lucky to sing under Berty Marshal Barthalomews last year as our director and inspiration. I was soloist 1954-55 under Fenno Heath.
To Joel Thompson: Deliverance is the single most beautiful, most moving piece I ever heard. Thank you for creating it! My name is Jim Martin and I was a member of the Yale Glee Club in 1953 to 1955. I was a soloist. Also I had the delightful experience of being in the Glee Club during Marshall Bartholomew’s last year as director. Thank you again for Delliverance! Jim Martin. Martinj918@mac.com.
Gorgeous!
oh this is glorious! well done all!
Love this so much!!
Beautiful!!!!!!!
A fantastic piece, well done!! "Ring Out Wild Bells" is challenging both technically and musically, as is the entire "The Passing of the Year" song cycle, a masterpiece by Dove. Special kudos to Ms. Kumara, the piano part is fiendishly difficult!
So beautiful! Bravo! Listening during the 2020 pandemic, missing concerts...
WOW! What beautifully prepared young musicians! They clearly know this enormous work well from start to finish. This movement is so taxing for the sopranos, but they acquit themselves so very admirably. Brava! Just discovered Conductor Douma. He’s a gold-nugget find.
Another alumnus, saying very nicely done. You make me want to be up on stage with you.
As a former YGC singer pre-coed days, I am moved nearly to tears by this performance. Wow!
id like to c some vids from this year pls!!
That was amazing. . . .
