    i have one question, does it matter is you use streamers in rivers because i have see people fish them like that i thought they would be used mainly for lakes and impoundments? thank you.

    • @TomsOutdoorsFlyFishing
      @TomsOutdoorsFlyFishing 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi there! Streamers are probably the most versatile type of fly there is because you can fish them anywhere. We extensively use streamers in rivers; both different types and styles (keep an eye out for how a to fish streamers in rivers video, coming hopefully this year). If you need any more specific advice for your river conditions and what streamers to use please let us know! Cheers! Mickey

    how does this compare with a kokopelli xpd? would you say the NRS is tougher?

    • @TomsOutdoorsFlyFishing
      @TomsOutdoorsFlyFishing 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Leo, The NRS is lighter overall (by about a kilo) than the XPD but reinforced in particular areas that apply especially to fishing; for instance where your wading boots rub the deck. We've paddled both extensively and I'd say the NRS is tougher where you need it to be for fishing and will suit any rough adventure you could throw at it. Cheers!

    I've fished that stretch many times. Changes in water level, weather and time of year make it feel completely different from one trip to the next. Sometimes the rainbows are dominant, sometimes the big browns slip out to play. Such fun!

    The cold water will make you hyperventilate, so expect that, and after you get your knees to your chest focus on taking deep breaths. Another good reason to practice so you know what to expect when it happens for real.

    • @TomsOutdoorsFlyFishing

      No worries! To start off a basic kit would consist of, flies, fly box, leaders, tippet and nippers (or scissor forceps). These are the absolute essentials that you'll use everyday and which you can build upon based on the time of year you're fishing and when you start to bush bash.

  • @KatPeruLifeInView
    @KatPeruLifeInView หลายเดือนก่อน

    Mickey…loving your intro series. Question…if you need to change your fly, do you remove the tippet and the fly…to set up a new tippet with a different fly? Or just the fly? I was thinking that you could reuse the tippet and fly, as long as the tippet was still in good condition.

    • @TomsOutdoorsFlyFishing
      @TomsOutdoorsFlyFishing หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! If your just changing the fly no need for a new tippet every time, just check the tippet for rough spots or knots when you do change over. Thanks for watching! Mickey

    • @TomsOutdoorsFlyFishing
      @TomsOutdoorsFlyFishing 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The belt definitely prevents water from rushing down to your legs but it won't fully seal. It's super important to bring your knees to your chest and trap air in your legs for floatation and swim to where you can stand ASAP!

    This might be a stupid question, but I haven’t found the answer anywhere. Can’t you feel the studs through your boots? The studs I saw where really pointy, like normal screws. Thank you for that video!

    • @TomsOutdoorsFlyFishing
      @TomsOutdoorsFlyFishing 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! Studs are designed to only screw into the sole and not poke through, just be sure to get the correct studs recommended for your boots as sole thicknesses may vary across brands.
