Simple Timber Frame Wood Shed Build in Alaska | Start to Finish
This fall and early winter we built a timber frame woodshed for our winter supply of wood. While we waited to be able to get back to our off grid cabin our homestead got a bit of an upgrade. We cut, hauled and milled all of our own timbers for this project, and got it built just in time before winter hit hard.
We used a mix of traditional and "cheater" timber frame methods to put up this structure that can hold 2 years worth of firewood as well as our float raft.

    When I made my comment about the song praising Jesus I didn't know you were involved in ministry. You kind of surprised me. The Lord is with you and YES we get burn out and when that happens if it's really hard to stay awake for some of us. You having time alone is healthy. A little separation from family can open up love by missing each other. Jesus understands that we get burn out. I found that out but it's a long hard to believe testimony. Jesus sees how much we do and will force us into a rest sometimes. Guilt free. Enjoy yourselves. ❤

Truly, I love that you and your family get to work together in building this dream of living off the land and slowing down, getting back to what’s important! @makingitinalaska 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It is pointed south, but questioning you reasoning. To dry better? We live in a very dry part of Alaska. The sun helps some, but we really just need time to get the wood dried out.

    • @jbwhittaker4645
      @jbwhittaker4645 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      winds blow from west to south west in the spring summer and fall helps wood dry /plus facing south the sun helps. you nailed it😂😂😂 great job very nice video waiting for more

      @ if only the winds were consistent. We are in the heart of the matanuska valley. 3 miles from the face of the Matanuska Glacier. Winds swirl and change daily more dependent on the temps than anything else. But sun exposure is helpful.

    I like how you make an honest comment on the price of a saw mill and who knows if it will ever pay for itself. But honestly it gives you the ability to build with such big dimensional lumber it would be hard to quantify. It would be a fortune to build with such hefty lumber if you went to buy it.

    • @makingitinalaska
      @makingitinalaska หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely true. I have purchased large beams and posts in the past from local sawmills so it is possible. And honestly fairly reasonable. The $10k price tag in this unit is achievable in raw lumber. I’m guessing I’m around $6k milled with all my projects I. The last couple of years, but that doesn’t factor in any labor. Still the freedom to mill what I need when I need it is great. And if lumber skyrockets again like in the past I won’t have to stop producing what I want. Thanks for watching.

      It is a flexible door and window tape made to water seal. It’s tar based. Tape it in a way that water will always shed down, and no tape on the bottom in case any water got in before it it would be able to drain out. Trim and siding then will go over all of this hopefully this winter.

      @@shiammi907 That is great. Would have been the early days of Ranch camp, and likely the hotel didnt exist yet. Campers for decades have branded their name in the wall of that lodge when they make a salvation decision while at camp. Tim was likely the horse guy. I still see him regularly. I will ask him if he remembers Lightfoot. So great to hear stories of God at work through this ministry. There have been so many stories since as well. Blessings to you.

      @@makingitinalaska During the last breakfast at Victory Bible Camp, a red bandana was given to me as an award for being the best all around horseback rider...but it really wasn't me that deserved it. It was Lightfoot with his liveliness that made me look good. Pretty sure all the other horses were more docile. I hope the man named Tim remembers him!! That would thrill me to no end🙏🏽The Good Lord bless all of you!!💖

      @@shiammi907 I talked with Tim tonight he never had blond hair, so it must have been one of the other wranglers, but he did remember lightfoot. He said it was a great horse.

      I will never hide who I am. I have many faults, but I strive to be more like Christ all the time. It is a continual process. My conviction to share what Christ has done in me is why I put my videos in a public light. It can not be about the subscriber count. Thanks for watching.

      Just the Alaskan way. Butter is tricky, but I’ve heard of root beer float drops… that would be amazing.
