Hey David, I am a young Australian student that jsut attended a regionals Robocup rescue line, it was our first time and we placed 5th missing 3rd by 50 points. My team and I worked to make our robot be able to pick up the aluminium can from the green area but we are struggling to get it to go back through the entire maze again. If there was a way you could give us tips on how to fix that then I would appreciate it. Thanks

I will endeavour to get the next article in my Robocup series on WinthropDC.com/Robotics written which will cover exiting. You can use a number of methods: Reset the motor rotation sensors after moving to the center of the spill zone before looking for can. Know how far forward you moved to rescue the can so you can back up the same amount. Then return to zero position on motor sensor to undo your rotation. Or use a gyro sensor to restore your position after rescuing can. Then turn and either follow green edge to find silver or back up to silver and turn to find black line.

Can you detect the green for the shortcuts? Then you just need to go forward a bit and then turn a bit (fixed amount) to get past possible line of crossroad. Then turn until sensors sees black and continue until it sees white. Then you will be over the line again.

Wouldnt the caster wheel at the back catch on speed bumps and possible cause issues with see saw?

    • @winthropdc1

Hi Alan . This robot was designed for the remote competition when there were no speed bumps, ramps, bridges or see-saw. However, I would not recommend a caster wheel for a competition using the full range of tiles as it will likely get caught. A rotacaster omni wheel would be my recommendation. David

The code that drives the robot was quite complex and specific to this build. It was written in Microsoft Small Basic with the EV3 Basic extensions. It handles both a Motor Multiplexer and a Sensor Multiplexer so the robot can have 6 motors and 5 sensors running off a single EV3 controller brick. The program in this video was testing the Mecanum wheel driving sub routine, which can be fed any combination speed, rotation, duration, direction and turn angle.
