nice video man. Doing these lighting tutorials a re difficult so i can appreciate the effort. Just a thought, but some potential ways to improve this shot would be: colour pallette of your scene, i would have swapped the jumper out for a green colour or something more in line with your overall shot - i think the exposure on your face is a bit to bright, to make it look more believable and take it down a stop or so on the key side of your face and controlling the spill of the softbox, when you look at the backwall near the lamp its much darker than the top right of the wall behind you, this doesnt make sense in terms of the realisim as the inverse square law would be darker - dont mean to pick, just wanted to help if i can.

Thanks for this!
I love these videos; I look forward to this! Thank you Oliver.
Nice one Oliver! This was super insightful, thanks for sharing. Totally agree regarding charging more, you loose some opportunities, but then you make space for the better projects. One question, did you sync everything up with time code?
@@matt.banton glad you enjoyed it man :) there was no need for timecode as we were running BMs through the atem. Audio was coming into the cams that we levelled on site.
@@OliverGTWhitehouse Cool, thanks mate, that makes sense! I haven't done any live productions yet, thats good to know :)
🔥🔥
Sick video
@@jamiecostello_rpm thank you sir 🫡
Just found your channel, loving the content, keep it coming :)
@@matt.banton thanks Matt. Appreciate the kind words. What would you like to see more of in future videos?
@@OliverGTWhitehouse Thanks mate, i always love a good BTS, yours are great. get so many insights. Maybe a bit more on the gear you are using, how and why. Maybe how you got / get work. Anything relating to running a business (these things interest me at least:)
@@matt.banton you got it man :) in that case you’ll love my next video coming next week. Stay tuned 🎥
@@OliverGTWhitehouse Awesome, i'll keep an eye out for it :)
Wow, This is the stage I wanna be at in the next year or so, At the moment I only have the Neewer Light panels and wanna get some soft boxes for them or should I just go and get say the Amaran 100x with some decent C and Light stands?
@@JanWilliamsBailey you could always rent the kit for a day. Experiment, play around, get some portfolio shots and then use those shots to get work that can pay for the upgrades.
@@OliverGTWhitehouse This sounds like a great plan; I think I might do that.
Love this
What happened to the hat? 😂 jokes aside, I'm really enjoying the content, particularly that associated to business. Keep it up!
@@DanHeginbotham haha! I was waiting for someone to pull me up on it. Funnily enough that was the only shot without a hat. Thanks man. Glad you’re enjoying the content!
As a one man team who does corporate events. This was some good insight on larger events. This is the level I want to be at
fx30 has tap to focus thats what i use for auto focus
I’ve used that feature a couple of times but never find it as reliable as controlling the focus manually.
This is the bread and butter of our industry! Great bts!
Hey, 🔥video. Some Really great information her, But I do have a few questions to ask. So When asking for a deposit how much should I be asking? Would it be 10-15% of the full production cost. With the pre-production documents do you send them just to the team or should I also send them to the client as well, Like a full Milanote PDF, link etc?
@@JanWilliamsBailey hey mate, typical deposit for me is 50% to secure the date of production and start the process. Then we process the remaining 50% + any additional costs during the production after the final files have been handed over. It really is up to you and the client how much you take as a deposit. For bigger projects it may be 25 / 50 / 25 etc. The deposit is just a form of financial commitment from the client to say that the project is going ahead and things can start moving. Preprod docs are sent to whoever needs to know the info. It can be good to keep the client in the loop, but for the most part the client doesn’t need to know all the ins and outs of production. That’s why they’re paying you to take care of it.
@@OliverGTWhitehouse Thank you very much for the information, I’ll defo keep this for future projects to look at.
@@JanWilliamsBailey you’re welcome. Thanks for checking out the vids :)
Hey so I'm just starting out myself and I'm wondering if I got enough to start doing some client work? I already got, an canon 700d, a few basic lenses, 2 Neewer LED panels, on top 3.5mm shotgun Microphone, a Tripod, and some Basic filters such as a ND, and of course the Lo-Tech Accessories such as battery's, lens wipes etc. Only thing I'm worried about is mainly audio. Since I brought a extraction cable for my mic, I've done a few tests on some TH-cam videos and there's a big hissing sound when I go to review the footage. What would you recommend.
hey mate, what do you mean 'extraction cable'?
@@OliverGTWhitehouse extension cable is what I meant. Sorry my dyslexia
@@JanWilliamsBailey no worries. To be honest, I would recommend finding a wireless microphone set you can add to the kit. They are super versatile and will be a great investment. Try to secure a project with a client and then use the income to invest in new kit. Either the rode or dji set are great.
I can't find the spreadsheet
Really enjoyed it, I noticed the hand change too
Amazing video
I'm looking forward to having shoots like this also

This is a really great video, thanks for sharing
Can you please share the doc, Thank you
Love this! learnt a lot seeing this
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. What was your biggest take away?

@@samurpani thanks man. Glad you enjoyed the video!
I’m definitely gonna try to use that prompting the interviewee to tell a story using how? Why? when? Where? 🔥🔥
Who what when where why how Then go for your deep questions
🔥🔥
And, a circular white/silver Reflector!!!
The reflector didn’t make the cut in this budget unfortunately. What would you remove in replace of the reflector?
@@OliverGTWhitehouse lol, I think I would have somehow shopped for something chreaper, I just think they are invaluable for fills outside with no power. :) You selected some great stuff, though!
Great Video, Thanks. Please do one video about the software and stock recourses that one should use to start out. I'm trying to start a couple of TH-cam channels and it would be so helpful to learn how to build a video workflow. Thank you, Oliver.
Glad you enjoyed it! Sure thing - subscribe so you don’t miss it when it comes out ;)
Great list of gear! Btw, yes, the FX30's latest firmware stops you from seeing the exact percentage of battery left if you use a third-party battery (at least most third-party batteries, some are exempt, not sure why). Really slimy trick from Sony. That being said, I might swap out the gimbal for a decent prime lens (e.g. Sigma 16mm f1.4), if you were shooting in low-light with the FX30. Gimbal is a 'nice-to-have' in my book, not an essential.
Looks like £65 batteries are the only option then.. Good shout on the lens / gimbal swap. Although I probably wouldn’t choose the 16mm as it’s very much a one trick pony in my opinion.
Sick video
