      Hi! Thank you for the question. There were actually students in the classroom and this was filmed back in 2020 when masking was universally required on campus. However, I don't disagree - I don't even trust my own judgment sometimes ;)

    Deterrence definitely works. People use to pick fights with me all the time when I was a skinny 150 pounds but then I put on 120 pounds of muscle and now people fear me so they treat me with respect. People stay out of bad neighborhoods because they fear something might happen to them. That is deterrence. Even evolution believes in deterrence. A rattlesnake shakes his tail as a warning. That is deterrence.

    My X wife had an abortion in 1969 in Kansas. WE married in 1980. She was sterile because of this device, and we couldn't have children. I went through an enormous internal struggle about how this affected me. In the long run, she should have had this child. Then I never would have married her. Abortion is a sin to me and to her. Doctors playing God should die.

    That's a very odd way to describe the superego, usually it's described as the part concerned with societal customs, norms and morals, the ideals you hold and want to live up to or at least known that you probably should. Your sense of right and wrong. The description given here just makes it sound like the superego is the emphatic part of consciousness.

    I disagree that extreme poverty "explains" violent crime. For it to "explain" violence, there must be logical cause and effect, that is, violence would have to alleviate one's poverty, and that clearly is not the case.

    Would Patrick Bateman from Bret Easton Ellis's novel "American Psycho " count as a primarily instrumental+ reactive because at the start he plans out all his murders but by the end he kind of loses it and starts killing everyone

    • @DrBehl
      @DrBehl 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It very well could be. However, having a mental break does not necessarily suggest reactivity as reactivity refers more to situational factors influencing the decision to commit further deviance. Great question.
